US *was* a country of ideals might be a little more appropriate. Not too long ago when I was young.... we never.. ever...would have considered trading with a communist country. after all *we had principles*. now we just have capitalism running the show. it all comes out in the end.
I got the update last night on the nexus one. I was p*issed when it rebooted and the theme was totally different. I am not fond of a bright green LED colors on a black background. give me back my silver and gray. These colors do not work well with natural scenes in wallpaper like the golden gate bridge shot.
This is fairly old news. I mentioned it on my website on Aug.1 2004. Do a search on www.theshrub.com using *office of special plans*. Interesting stuff. Then Google it. TheShrub created an intelligence office inside the Dept of Defense. Thereby discarding other agencies such as the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency. All this to come up with a lame excuse that comes back to haunt him.
Do lots of reseach before you vote this Nov 2004. BUT DO VOTE!!
Check out www.2bozos.com too.
A litle too quick to blame anything/anyone. Shit happens. Deregulation? Maybe. Being a structural ironworker, regulation sure has helped me. (OSHA regulations). But, I doubt deregulation helps the elecrticity markets maintain service and order. Neither regulation nor deregulation work in every situation all the time. Human error? Probably. Electricity is an *on demand* business. Prolly someone just guessed wrong at a critical moment. Kinda like when i fell off the iron.... woops... wrong!!!
I agree. I started using gnucash and decided I spent too much time entering data into the computer. I had already done so in my checkbook as I wrote the check the first time. If you need to have charts and such, reenter data quaterly in a spreadsheet program and view from there.
without seeing any footage on CNN (only radio reports) of burning buildings our discussion at work was *will it fall to the side or collapse straight down*. all of us on our job pretty much agreed they would come down. intense heat and structural steel is not compatible at all. steel looses its shape at a very low temprature actually. much lower than the fires created. asbestos would do nothing to help. once a few members were beyond loosing thier strength they can no longer support the weight from above. no rocket scientist needed here.
If this were true why would Compaq hava abandoned the Alpha chip just a month or so ago. They had invested heavily in Linux Alpha and had made numerous promises to continue development of Alpha. Sad to see the Alpha chip go. Even sadder to see where it went.
"The US Army is looking for advice on purchasing several high-end Linux workstations. These systems will be used in a post-flight processing environment. We routinely process raw data measurements in excess of 1 million samples/second. This processing can utilize several GB of disk space and up to and exceeding 1GB of RAM."
If this were the case I'd be looking at Compaq's Alpha 21264 boards. I think this is exactly what the Alpha processor and systems are designed to do.
Lawsuits will eventually bring regulation

As much as I dislike SPAM, I am not sure I like the idea of lawsuits over SPAM. Politicians, businesses and the like will have an easier time *regulating* the net if lawsuits begin to be looked upon as a functional way of getting what they want. I'm not sure I like that very much.
I guess I always thought this would become reality. When Sun was saying "network" and MS was saying "desktop", I thought MS was on the wrong track. As for pricing... keep in mind the "sales model" is not likely change. Linux and it's apps are most likely going to be available for free. I see a few servers hosting Linux apps for use by anyone. Just keep core programs on your box....borrow the rest.
I think it might be better to let MS dig it's own grave. The open software community need not lend a hand. Press releases like we have seen from MS are very calculated to bring desired "results". Those results being: The DoJ and (more importantly the John Q. Public), will eventually see Linux as a threat. If Linux vs MS articles appear long enough and generate enough press then MS campaign will have been successful. The outcome of that is: The general public has absolutely no idea of what Linux and open sourse is about, and won't anytime in the future, but they will lower thier anomosity towards MS.
We geeks love Linux so much and revel in bashing Microsoft --- all the while this activity is creating what MS wants to see. With IBM, HP, Oracle and all the big boys jumping on the bandwagon, the only thing left for MS to sway is the press. Once the press is swayed (really it's there now) the public will once again side with Microsoft.
I don't find it coincidence that these articles appear on news orginazations such as MSNBC. If Linux were really a threat, those articles would never get posted. A true threat would do more damage to the business. (would you talk yourself OUT of a dineer date with a pretty girl by telling her about some guy over in the corner?) As it is.....MS can post them and say "see...we are being objective....we report favorably on the competition when it warranted". Key word here is competition. Was competition in any articles prior to the Halloween document?
I would sell my DEC Alpha and plunk down the VISA for a notebook like this. Especially with Netscape and Word Perfect 8 installed. I'll probably end up settling for an LC if/when they arrive.

I thought Applixware Office Suite had a pretty good set of filters. I used it a few years ago and was quite impressed.
Subject says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.....could very well end up in anti-trust. In the mean time, we the consumer will pay a significant price.

The question itself bothers me.....let alone who wins the arguement.
Bill....
Please don't port any Microsoft software to Linux. Thank You.

Rant over...hehe
I use mtv on Linux Intel. I didn't had much luck with Xanim so I downloaded and mtv and have used it ever since.
