What do you think will happen to the respect that other nations have for the US, when Bush is re-elected.
Do you realize that American's as a whole don't really care about what Europe thinks? We have an ocean between us - what goes on in Europe has very little effect on us anymore. Governments of Europe know that they need to run trade with the US - hence why the UN didn't call for sanctions during the invasion of Iraq.
How do you think groups like Al Qaeda will react when Bush is re-elected. Do you realize what happened on 9/11, and why it happened?
Al Qaeda is under too much scrutiny to be able to do much of anything anymore. When suicide bombers start landing on US soil in greater numbers, then America will listen. The reprocussions will literally be Earth shattering.
Still, Tanenbaum doesn't really make reference to that on his site; he acts as if the mere act of running electoral-vote.com somehow helps the Democratic candidate. That's the part I don't understand.
FUD does not have to come from the hollowed halls of Microsoft in order to be FUD. Liberals do it as well as Conservatives, both of which leave a sour taste on the palettes of the American people. People are getting disenchanted with the whole system. Everyone feels cheated and feels that they cannot trust the other side.
I reperesent a third alternative, one who is disenchanted with both parties enough, that I'm actually doing something about it (in my own ways). Refuting the logic of polls like this and questioning the spreaders of disinformation is the start. Voting your conscience tomorrow is the answer.
If you were to set up the same vote for say England you would be luckly to find many people in the US to know who is actually running against Mr Blair.
If you had the same question in the United States, you'd be shocked to find that most Americans think he's the King.
Not in the least bit. Would it strike you as impractical if teachers didn't do the same thing (or at LEAST have very reliable backups) when it came to your grades?
That is what I was trying to say. Perhaps I was a tad quick trying to get out my idea, but yes, let them have a reciept that perhaps gets shredded before they leave.
Is it all that hard to add a 'print reciept' option to all of these voting machines? Honestly, if they had a ream of paper coming out of the back of the machine, and the option for Voters to print off a copy for their own records (and to verify their vote was recorded as they expected) a lot of the problems with the electronic voting machines would be alleviated. Votes could be recounted by going back over the paper trail, and there would be immediate response for vote tallies.
I too am a subscriber, but like many of the people in my friends circle (who are also subscribers) basically use the front page to get to the journals and other misc stories.
Yes, there are a lot of us who pine for the days of the slashdot that was (yes, I have a goddamned low UID because I read slashdot when EVERYONE was anonymous).
I've met taco in person, and whereas he is technical and artistic, he's not much of a people person. Slashdot has proven this time and time again.
Every single one of the award 'winners' was a conservative or someone showing concern for a 'conservative' point of view other than the school that was trying to ban the NRA t-shirt.
Building on your comment about maps, I only kept one for myself, unless it was an 'adventure item' Things of that nature (and riddles and runes) I kept in image files (.tiff /.jpg / whatever) and DCC'd as the party found them.
Generally speaking, you're right, they are slower, but also more 'in character.' The group I played with would be in two rooms #name_of_game and #name_of_game_ooc for any communication that had to be kept OOC. Then if someone missed a session, you could literally hand them the logs of the event and catch them back up.
Neowin has learned of shocking and potentially devastating news. It would appear that two packages are circulating on the internet, one being the source code to Windows 2000, and the other being the source code to Windows NT. At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak so we have no official response from them at the time of writing.
This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about.
We ask that for the wider benefit of the IT community that members and readers support Microsoft by forwarding anything they know about the leak to the Microsoft's Anti-Piracy department.
Please do not post any links/screenshots/hints or anything to do with the source code outbreak. Discussion is allowed but we will not condone people spreading this source code.
And I came up with this obviously acedemic images of the Euro. I'm sure that no matter what is put into place by the creators of the drivers, there will always be a way around them.
Briefly stated, you're wrong. I'm a sysadmin for both Solaris and Linux, and trust me, both have their place in the Enterprise. When you're looking for a good overall performer, and speed is more important than overall efficiency, Linux is GREAT, especially for webservers and other similar tasks. When you're talking about applications such as Oracle, you need the big iron that Sun can deliver pushing the envelope of performance on more robust systems.
Personally, I'm going to be getting a 1500 or 2500 in the next few weeks at work (still haven't decided which to buy). I have a SGI Indigo2, an Ultra 1, a few x86 based machines, an AIX server, HP-UX server, and a microVAX. Each has one or two things that they're good for (like, only the SGI or x86 systems make good desktops), but together you start to see why each flavor of *NIX has its own quirks, and value. Each job has a tool best suited for it, and x86 / Linux / BSD isn't always the right answer.
The point of it is that your grandmother isn't going to know what RAID is, but I'd be willing to bet that she could plug in a computer and put a CD installer in her computer.
I understand where you're coming from, but you and I are not the target audience for this toy.
Like the TiVO, this thing is running linux, as such, its just a matter of time before people figgure out how to dd the image from the 120gb drive installed to add larger and faster drive capacities. Given that it is still a Linux PC driven application NAS, the possibilities are endless. The price is a touch high at $400, but it should drop once/if it gains marketshare.
The other thing to contemplate would be to get the image off the harddrive, and be able to create bigger / badder boxes by simply adding the apropriate hardware drivers to Linux. Imagine the software portion being able to control a nice hardware RAID of say 200 GB drives. More fault tolerant and easier (for us Linux folks) to use.
I actually have a very similar system (7-VRXP), and was depressed when I had to add a floppy drive to it to make the RAID work under XP. My new solution after this is to hopefully add an external USB floppy drive that I can use when needed.
Back on topic, Gigabyte and a few other hardware manufacturers (nvidia for instance) take pains to make us Linux users more able to keep our hardware up to date from the system. Unfortunately those changes have to come from the consumers, not from the manufacturers in our decisions to buy hardware based on the software platforms they support.
Porn. 2,743 sites (or 28%) appeared to contain pornographic content. To generate this statistic, we matched a list of 94 pornographic stopwords to terms in the associated URL and the index page.
You read that right, 28% of the internet sampled appears to be porn. Anyone surprised? Read on...
Regarding P2P networks:
The largest file types are.AVI video files, followed by archival.ZIP files. AVI files are video files playable on a computer. The range of these in our sample is 82 bytes to 2GB, with most being in the 100-200 MB range. Pornography seems to be a major contributor to this traffic, according to user identification of genre types.
This follows my general idea that part of the reason that the internet is as large as it is, is due to the fact that it allows anonymous connection to taboo material.
I too am Red-Green colorblind. For those of you that don't have colorblindness, let me explain something to you before you all go to the shades of grey argument. I see *most* colors fine. Red and Green tend to blur to a shade of brown. If you want to make me screen, do a red background with green letters or vice versa.
One thing that I accidently stumbled upon to fix my problem is Polarized Sunglasses. I bought a pair as my old pair lost a side of the frame. They are basically blue blockers, which enhances 'green' to a more visible spectrum, and makes it EASY for me to differentiate between green and red. They're not dark, so even in the evenings, they're comfortable without having to strain to see properly. I'd highly recommend red/green colorblinded people to look into these at your local reputable Sunglass / Optomotrist store.
Another recommendation that I read above was using 3D glasses. The ones that they use for Disney World, and that Coke distributed a few years ago for the Superbowl show / ads had a cool effect that RED colors are pushed 'forward', and GREEN is pushed 'back.' If you can find the non-red/green glasses, I highly recommend them as well.
I believe that there is more to the fact that most people who are big into the gaming market already have a PS2 and XBox, and now with the price drop, are willing to drop some more cash to play Zelda / Metroid / Castlevania (the only reasons I'd buy one).
Most of the games for N64 are for kids, now the enthusiasts with some extra cash are willing to pony up to play the games that remind us of our gaming youth.
If the LP gets funding, you'll start to see real people showing up for the party.
I'm in the same boat as you and am even registered Libertarian in MD (I'm a write-in party).
Every vote helps provide funding for the next election. Just think of it like the O's. Its a rebuilding year.
To be honest, his promise to blow up the UN was what won me over to him.
Waste of time and precious NYC space. Turn it into a landfill or a new stadium for the Yankees, but I repeat myself.

Agreed - I've been running it at home for about a year and a half. AVG is a good AV with regular updates. Don't forget to update often.
Or - 24 hours/day * 60 mins/hour * 60 seconds/min = 86400 seconds / day.

Another example of the Leftist sway of slashdot.
