Why not go with a modular GOS (Gaming OS) then. XFree sorta does this with all the servers, so why not get rid of all the extra crap, and make modules for each (supported) video card, sound card, joystick/controler, etc.. If done right, the programmer need not care which hardware you're using.
There is no way to totaly eliminate electroinc interference. The FCC knows this. When they say your device must accept unwanted interference, they mean that it should be able to absorbe it and keep doing what it's suposed to. Kind of like Timex(r)- it needs to take a licking and keep on ticking..
And, I'm sure Win2k had a looong list of bugs postponed for the release. SP1 and SP2 are probably just prioritized (hopefully by severity) from the 1.0 bug list. It's just smart dev management. You call this "smart development management"? Shipping software with known bugs is piss-poor management if you ask me. Of course to Microsoft, this is smart busness managemant. Especially since they'll most likely charge full price for Win2KSE at years end.
"As far as I am concerned, their mail monopoly should be revoked and they should compete with UPS, FedEx, et al, for the delivery of first class and bulk mail."
You're kidding here right? The USPS is a branch of the government, not a busness. It is not out to make a profit, nor does it. Do you think FedEx or UPS would deliver a letter anywhere in the country for a meer 33 cents? Perhaps we should end the "monopoly" the military has as well?
I don't know about you, but I don't read all the/. articles. I didn't read the G4 one, because I'm not interested in Apple. I am interested in monitors however, so this headline caught my eye. If it weren't for this "repeat" article, I would never have known about this monitor.
I hope you're cautioning people to read this before they buy vice telling them not to buy because of this. Microworkz was ready to handle 10,000 units a month not the 60,000 to 70,000 in 10 days they received. I don't think you can flaw them for that. I don't know if the Webzter was Microworkz first product or not, but if so they deserve at least a second chance to see if they've adapted and overcome. If they repeat the same mistakes then, and only then, can you recommend people not buy from Microworkz.
(1) A jet, wheather it's a fighter, DC-10 or 747 is nothing more than a blip on the screen. What tells the radar the type of aircraft is the IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe) system that all aircraft have built in. The IFF system in the Iranian pasenger jet was not working (or, turned off) so the ship had no idea what type of aircraft is was. The aircraft ignored several attempts at communication so given the situation in the Gulf at the time, the captain had no choice but to shoot.
(2) The US did not tell it's citizens to shoot down that plain. The Commanding Officer of that particular ship took the only means he knew to protect his command in a time of war by ordering his (military) personnel to fire.
Take a look at The MBROLA Project.. I played around with text-to-speech a few months ago and this was one of, if not the best I found. "Freely Available multilingual synthesizer!"
I heard this same argument used when I was running OS/2, but it never panned out. I'll admit there are alot more Linux users than there were (were, not to imply that OS/2 is dead, mind you, only that I no longer use it..:) OS/2 users. I really hope you're right though, and this may open the eyes of more video card manufacturers as well.
At least I thing that was their name. They put out games for the C=64. There was one I was really addicted to called Spelunker. I would love to find some of the old C=64 games I used to play. Too bad most of the companies are being dicks about distributing their old games for use with emulators.

Actually the STUPIDEST thing about the "millenium "bug"" is calling it a bug. It was delibratly designed in, so it is not a damn bug.

Umm.. I wouldn't recomend keeping it on your belt.. Not if you plan on having any kids, that is..

> Ugh. iMac's monitor isn't shielded very well.
Not many monitors are shielded very well. All but the expensive industry-quality monitors are encased in nothing but plastic.
Now at 74%.. 1374 votes out of 1856, if all valid, is quite a bit. I don't see how they could ignore those numbers.

I believe stage 4 will be the record companies whining to the government in an attempt to regulate either the MP3 format or search engines themselves.
