Yeah, you've seen about all I have. Wasn't saying you're wrong, just I haven't seen anything to support that it's "only" the hive-bees.....and, i dunno why, but need to look into this more, it really wouldn't interest me too much usually, but after reading through the replies to this article, it kind of is.....
Would have moderated you insightful, but already posted.....
So, that said.....wow! That's a blast from the past. I'd blocked that out completely. I remember the old days pre-boot menu (pre-Dos 6? I think) when you actually needed to do that with floppies, or switch the files out manually before rebooting. That was a nightmare. (and there were instances when you still couldn't get around things with the menu and had to resort to floppies.....maybe, it was a long time ago)
Really, they get useless for that purpose though. Maybe, i'm just stupid, but I assume that I really wanted to shutdown, and I don't need the OS to tell me anything, just shutdown. (becuase 99% of the time, they is no reason for the tasks not to just end.) So, now, yes, sometimes it's trying to stop me from losing data, which is helpful.....but not when it does it all the time even when there's nothing to save. I'll accept the 1 time a month when I actually forgot to save something and lose that over the annoyance.......
I could look into it myself, but I'm lazy today. Do you know of anything that says it only hive bees? All I've read have been about them, but I'm sure it's more noticeable since Hive bees are constantly monitored. It's probably a lot harder to track with wild bees.
True. I haven't tried it in any games yet, but the Classic Controller is fully functional in the Wii "OS"....the Control stick controls the pointer same as using the Wiimote, and the A button serves the same function as the A button on the Wiimote. This is almost useless (except for quickly switching from one VC game to another without messing with the Wiimote), but it proves that gamemakers can easily make a game that could allow players to use the CC instead of the Wiimote.
I pretty much agree with you. It's obvious why yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater is a bad thing.....but where's the line? Who decides where that line is? Again, I agree with you, but......if you have to ask where free stops being free, is it really free at all?
It actually started out as a commercial application from Stardock (i think it was). They were bought by Sun, I think mostly because StarOffice had so much Java. That doesn't really change your point though.......
"And then they started adding Java everywhere they could."
Maybe I'm wrong, but you say that like it's a late occurrance. Star Office was heavily Java dependant as I remember.....I thought it was getting less and less as OpenOffice has gone on. I think the Java's always been there......
True, the more I think about it, I guess what I was thinking could be accomplished a better way. I was thinking using more than one wiimote per person, both hands, legs maybe.......but, thinking about it more, they could do this with attachments to the wiimote, or just completely different controller set ups that are really just one "wiimote" to the wii.......
Didn't know that. So, it probably just would be software to get to 7 at least. Dunno much about bluetooth, the Wii is the first device I've had....would it be possible for them to add the Wii to a second network, say with a USB BT device and double that to 14?
Thought I replied to this long ago, but see now that I haven't......it isn't spun backwards, they are read out-to-in instead of in-to-out.......otherwise, yes, the discs are identical.....the trick is getting the drive to "read" backwards.......
Yeah, I see most of it being innovative ways to use the existing wiimote.....correcting my last comment a bit........that opens the door for possibly needing more than 4 wiimotes.....it may be as easy as a simple software level update to do that, but, it could be a hardware limitation......
And, the wiimote is amazing at what it does now.....I think we're just seeing the start of what developers are able to pull out of it, it may be fine the way it is for a very long time.......
That's the only oprion I could see them actually adding to the Wii experience that may interest me. I'd think they'd do that by upgrading the Wiimote though. I don't see how the console would need to change (maybe a "real" sensor bar, but the pointing of the Wiimote seems to work pretty well.....)
So far no, unless, as another reply stated, replaces your console for a warranty issue. I too hope they do more at some point. I really don't think they'll ever offer anything to make me want to upgrade.....I can buy a cheap DVD player for under $50.....if I ever need another. Don't think Nin would add a HD. I have no basis for that, but I just don't. My issue is when I need to replace it and it's not under warranty. I had a GC die while moving a few years back....not even sure what happened to it. I don't want that happening to my Wii and losing the (far too much, really), money I've already spent on the VC......hopefully, when that issue starts coming up, they'll address it.
"Remember that IBM, once it got hold of OS/2 and was able to release the 32-bit version as a product independently of Microsoft".....
OS/2 2.0......which Microsoft has/had a tile on their campus for (or something, forget where I saw it)......was "almost done" when the split happened in 1990. IBM's OS/2 team took 2 years (if I recall) to release it w/o their MS counterparts.
I'm far from a MS sympathizer......The OS/2-Windows split always has fascinated me historically.......IBM screwed up (by not being able to see the future I guess), by not letting PM use the Windows API. MS, as they always have, capitilized on their position and that fact to push NT (and '95) to replace OS/2 once they gave up on OS/2. The split would never have happened if IBM had bent over earlier......(I say bent-over cause, I'm not so sure the alternative would have been better)
That said.....IBM probably doesn't care.....they do pretty well w/o selling OS/2......
Definitely true. The story below this seemed interesting to me, a bit. This one I care about, so it's the one I read first. Even though this is "some small town in Montana", it's not a good precedent. What about when it's "some small city"......or an entire "small state"? Where's the line?
Has something changed? From what I've read, Nintendo has always said that they will not offer a software DVD player for the Wii. Only that it may come in a future hardware revision. (i don't see either why it can't now. It may be the drive has now way to swtich modes to read a standard DVD rather than the funky GC and Wii discs)
maybe 2.....I got a warning that I used "over my daily allotment[up and down]" cause I was downloading, I think a Fedora torrent....sent them a reply of what I was doing, and how, exactly was I abusing my [whatever it was then] free bandwidth.....never got a response.....maybe they've changed their limits, but never heard from them again, and I know I've done wrose in a day since......(just recently....rebuilt the comp and been trying out different distros.....the amount on bandwidth I must have used the last couple weeks.....cause I like to let the torrents sit a while after I'm done.....i dunno)
- Final Fantasy / Dragon Warrior / Leisure Suit Larry, etc.? Why would you group LSL in with the other 2? I had made a seperate group for Sierra/Lucasfilm type adventures. If you're gonna throw a PC game on there, I'd put the Ultima's or Wizardry's.
Replying to this to cancel a screwed up moderation....since when are moderations immediate? (taking effect w/o hitting the moderate button....anyone else seen this?)
I'd guess, standard radio, yes....compass, i'd hope not, but maybe it's all digital (display-wise) on them, maybe not.....radar....i doubt. In a jet that advanced, the radar is probably intimately tied to the computer.
If they only had radio and tankers nearby....yes, they could have been seriously screwed if there were bad weather......

Thank you, the title of that comment made me laugh more than I have in a while reading Slashdot.....wish I had mod points.

The little () about consultation is your answer. You need to talk to a lawyer.

Wish I had Mod points.....this is one of the best comments I've seen on Slashdot in a long time......
You're not serious? Read some History. Before the IBM/Microsoft breakup over OS/2, what became Windows NT 3.1 was supposed to be OS/2 3.0.......
"radios, compasses, radars, etc...."
