To give you an idea of how ridiculous their claim of "trademark dilusion" is, I have included our entire access log from April 16 2000 to May 31 2000. That's right, 4 unique visitors in 46 days, and that includes friends, family, and lawyers. Even if Mattel "wins", they will be getting a truly useless domain for which I can only imagine they are paying thousands of dollars in lawyer fees.
I wonder what the logs are like now:) I they did not just make it a 'valuable' name now that it's on/.
Has anyone ever gotten PHP to run on either the cobalt or gateway models? What does this require? Since these boxes do not have MySql is would XML work for the data storage?
Ok... everybody hear is talking about how bad the movie was. Sure the physics were WAY off. (Some of my friends wouldn't believe me when I tried to explain it to them) However, the main reason I didn't like the movie was it had NO new ideas. All the ideas in the film are present in some film or book in the past. I walked out of the movie thinking nothing new. I was not inspired.
The whole movie kinda jumped around with special effects and such. The only real 'meat' came at the end when the 'alien' (hah) explained how life came to earth. Does that really solve anything. I mean, how did life start on Mars?
If you are looking for something to spark your imagination, your toe nail has a better chance then this movie.
Even if this Distro is not for everybody, I think it is really good news to hear that an entire department is taking on Linux instead of windows. There are of course the obvious technical benefits to Linux over NT. But, think about the future.
This maybe common sense, but if Linux gains strong underpinnings in academia it will gain huge amounts of support in the future. Especially if it gains support by the administration of the engineering and computer science departments. More people will be coming out college with good proficiency in Linux.
This is the place where people need to focus. Get budding developers to learn on Linux and the OS and open source will soar.
This news is very comforting amid all of the other articles about M$ taking control of academia, and universities filtering out services. We can only hope that more universities will follow suit.
As history has shown, the costs will diminish over time. The devices will get better. Open standards will emerge.
It is not going to happen overnight, but look at the way the computer/PC industry has ended up where it is now. I doubt the growth and change of the 'webpad' devices will be exactly the same as that of the computer/PC industry, but there will be similarities. Let's just hope that a monopoly is not one of them;-)
What if all those Indians, Chinese, Indonesians, etc skip the 'PC era?' From what I've read, wireless networks are taking the rest of the world by storm (places other then the US). For instance, I went on a tour in Ireland a while ago. Our tour guide was a telephone-line repairman (For Eircom, I think). It sounds like a shit job by US standards, but is a respectable job in Ireland. Anyway, their telephone networks are not all that great. Many areas on the island use some old radio system for their telephone communications.
The fact is that almost everybody I met had a cell phone, and nobody had a computer. The internet and email are things that would be of great use to the people. Small and portable web-devices would be much better suited for these people then desktop PCs.
I am not sure of the situation in the Asian countries, but I am sure smaller devices would suit a majority of the people much better.
It's not like they HAVE to own a desktop PC before they buy some smaller wireless-web type device.
The University/Internet scene seems to be heating up. What do you think will happen when the Whittier administration finds out that a terrorist is masterminding the college newspaper site.
What is the best way to install Ximian Gnome with out having a fast internet connection?
Thanks!
How do we know the person/people are all male?
.www?
damnit... that's 'went' in one straight single line :)
...when release schedules when in one straight single line, and did not look like and erect version of the male genitalia.
That'll be 7.1 and 7.2
What is Carmack saying about OGL vs. DirectX?

At least the article uses the correct definition of "hackers" !

Is the project builder going to be free as in beer?
I think that they are using Zope? Anyone know?
I bet ya intel'll give her a summer job :)
Don't forget the big white room... And bodies floating in space. Well technically in 2001 it was a fetus... and in M2M a carcass. But who cares?

you were too late buddy
I am no lawyer, but I am wondering how France will sue the US. What organization is going to preside over the trials? WTO? UN?
And how can they enforce the verdict? From my reading enforcement of international law has always been a problem.
Thanks in advance, Nick
Hello, I remember a post a while ago that had a link to a web site that sells dual and triple computer cases.

There are only three Lone Gunmen, but yes it would be cool!
