I don't get it.. Why would anyone plug their TV into the internet anyway? I would no more plug my TV then I would plug my refrigerator.
Appliances are appliances, and I build the systems that are connected to the internet myself.
I would never plug a TV into the internet. I don't even plug my Xbox in unless it insists on a firmware upgrade. I think I plugged my LG blu-ray player once.
Systems that I build from reliable vendors get plugged into the internet.
Problem solved.
The thing that worries me the most about storing files in "the cloud" is what will happen when there is a critical mass of people who have GBs of things they want on other people's servers. What a wonderful profit stream to charge people for the transaction of withdrawing a copy of the thing you want, much as the banks do for currency today.
There must be something better then velcro ties. I use them but it's a pain running something new and having to undo each tie one by one so everything doesn't fall apart.
A lot of you guys are missing the point. Linux only has a chance in the long term if it gets a portion of adoption by the masses. The masses are not interested in configuration, they do go by the first thing they see, and as distasteful as it is for us all, the Apple-esque Gnome look is what they seem to be happy with. If you enjoy configuration then you have the option of wiping gnome and installing KDE on almost any distro. Everyone is happy.
If you care about your privacy that much why not just store your stuff at home and back it up at the house of someone else you trust? Much cheaper byte for byte and no risk of deletion by the evil empire.
The USS enterprise would have not existed if all the nations on earth did not put Earth as a a whole in front of their own needs. We can't get there unless people put the needs of society ahead of their own as individuals.
I suspect windows 8 is more about the kinect device than they are letting on right now. Moving windows around in the air and then going down to the keyboard to do real typing would be amazing.
What I keep wondering is, when I put all my cherished memories into the cloud and over years I allow that collection to grow with no means of extracting it or migrating it in a useful way, what will stop the cloud from taking full advantage of the worth of those memories to me? I can't imagine why they wouldn't eventually tell me that I must pay them to be able to see the media from Christmas 2012 and that is that? I believe that is the real lurking danger here. Right now we are the kids in the school yard being offered a few free hits.
Running a government like a business is a double edged sword. Businesses aren't guided by what's good for their customers, they are guided by what those customers will pay for. You could say goodbye to money hungry efforts that benefit us all such as funding scientific research. The military would have to start wars so they could be productive, that sort of thing.
.. If Samsung simply removed it? Because I'm using Chrome on Android right now with no effect and I don't miss it. I suspect most things coming from Apple add little value at best.
Meh, I work for a large IT company AND half the people I work with are ignorant of technology (basically anyone who is not an admin) . So this does not surprise me.
It would be much easier for the lawyer to find that picture if I were on Facebook, because it would be tagged to my account. If I were on Facebook I would have to make it my business to be aware of what links to me and confront people who put my pictures there which is another situation I don't want to get into.
I have encountered people in my workplace who would do anything for an edge with the boss, including befriending someone who can see my less sanitized pictures. Anyone who does not understand the danger of Facebook clearly has not been in this situation.
While we are talking about bank sites, and I would also take care on how I access them. I love my smartphone but I would never use it to access a bank site. the tech is too new and not yet proven. I only use a Windows client with anti virus or a Linux based machine.
I do not have a Facebook account, therefore your assertion that everyone has a Facebook account is false. I do not have an account because I cannot be bothered to jump through privacy setting hoops to keep control of information that is mine in the first place. Nothing you put on the Internet is private; put nothing there that you would not announce to a room of friends, family, and coworkers, and future employers. I can never think of anything that I would want to say to all these people at once, so I don't use Facebook.
I've found Pandora very lacking in variety. Tune in on the 80s channel a few times within a month and you'll hear cindi lauper within the first 10 songs every time. maybe it would be better if I used the thumbs but I don't sit at a screen when I listen. I really like the radio station concept for discovering new music but it got boring quick. I'm checking out Slacker these days.
They need to make a 'Car Lite'.
Am I missing something? Why not buy a smart TV but don't connect it to the internet if that is the TV you want?

Last time I checked, Netflix had around 5% of the stuff I wanted to watch.

Hey I can adapt to it fine but your comment suggests you did not read my original post. The masses don't want to adapt to anything.
One more point to add. For the common person, single click to run would be endgame in 5 minutes. It is just too bizarre.

I hate assholes, I hate businesses that are assholes, but unless the system system changes an awful lot this is just the beginning.

But then, are also notorious for under funding IT departments.
Any cloud provider should allow exporting of any content that was put there at a lower monthly rate.
