So what are you saying ? A student in a dorm can't log on to their computer at home ? What if they are from another country ? Or would you just restrict NFS drives and 'cp', ban encryption ? You see, this is the start of a slippery slope.

So suppose a student had a large CD collection that was at their parents' house. And instead of bringing it with them to uni, they decided to download the music they wanted via Kazaa from the computer at their parents' house.

Is it right to ban a student from using the network for that ? What if they were doing it via ftp ? Should they still be banned ?

Because like it or not Exchange and SQL2000 are far more advanced than anything Linux has to offer.

    More advanced than Oracle ?

And now that their are interfaces, people are going to try and put out applications in *nix with Mono. Only forcing companies in the long run to buy Microsoft Servers and might as well buy Desktops too, because .Net will be .Net where ever you go.

Personally, I never plan to develop with mono. Gtk+ works well enough for me. And I don't know of any other Linux developers who plan on using mono either.

Besides, if RH are pulling out of the desktop market, that just leaves more room for the other distro's.

Maybe it was just misconfigured somehow, but a browser isn't much use if you can't browse anything with it !

OK, you are confusing two things here.

One is grabbing of external windows on the desktop (e.g. an xmms plugin) and recording the frames, which is what I mean on the website.

The other is importing video from a camera. For this you need an external program (I use dvgrab to actually download the video and convert it to avi format which LiVES can load). Then you can just load the clips in and edit them. You can pass parameters to dvgrab to tell it what device to use, by default it is the first firewire device (which is what I use since my laptop has a firewire socket). Then
it is just a case of connecting a firewire lead between camera and laptop. Dvgrab and the other libdv2-apps will also be on the D:B CD.

I am working with Jaromil on the dyne:bolic CD. The latest bootable CD also contains the LiVES video editing system. With this CD it will be possible to grab frames from a camera, edit and splice the clips, VJ with them, then encode them to any format and burn them on to CD ROM.
