If AOL ever switch to using their own Netscape instead of Microsoft's IE, the problem will be solved for their users. Netscape ships with Sun's JVM by default.
Just one more reason why AOL should make the switch !
No, they were complaining about Mozilla taking more than two years to go from nothing to a release quality product.
Well, I guess it would have been possible IF the Mozilla team had written just a browser, just for Win32.
But that was never mozilla's plan - look what we have now, a fully featured, cross platform browser suite, we have bugzilla, tinderbox and bonsai as well.
The point that was made at the time was that the WaSP should have been supporting mozilla, not piling critisism on it. It was very, very short sighted off them, and I won't let them forget it.
I have the same setup, but I still download using the installer and then I copy the files into the locations where Mandrake expects them.
Here are some simple instructions to do it:
First of all, download the installer to/usr/local. Gzip -d and untar it - this will create the mozilla-installer directory. Then from that directory, run mozilla-installer and pick the components you want and begin the install. Mozilla gets installed into/usr/local/mozilla. Mozilla will try to start up automatically, but exit it as soon as you can.
Now do the following:
mkdir/usr/local/plugins-moz cp -r/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/*/usr/local/plugins-m oz cd/usr/local/mozilla mv mozilla mozilla-xremote-client/usr/bin mv lib*/usr/lib rm -r/usr/lib/mozilla/* cp -r */usr/lib/mozilla cp -r/usr/local/plugins-mozilla/usr/lib/mozilla/plu gins ldconfig
Then finally, edit the file/usr/bin/mozilla and somewhere around line 47, you will see: progname=$0 curdir=`dirname $progname`
Immediately after this, add a line: curdir=/usr/lib/mozilla
And there you have it. If there are any problems, try deleting ~/.mozilla to create a new profile (back it up first though).
Yes you can install it without mail/news. Just use the network installer, and select 'custom'. You can then choose exactly what components you want or don't want.
What's with all the weird station names you have in the US anyway ? They all seem to be odd four letter things starting with K or W. Is there any logic behind it ?
Not true. I have a set of old Star Wars comics from 1977-1982, and they definately mention *9* films at some point in the letters pages.
I can't give you an exact reference right now, since the comics are stashed away somewhere. The letters are quite interesting, there is also the first mention of 'Empire Strikes Back', the suggestion for the title actually came from a fan.
I'll have to read through them again at some point.
"No. Each title in the DVD format contains a menu program. This menu program can call the libdvd function GetPlayerManufacturer() (I'm making up a name) and die if the player manufacturer is known to be easily moddable."
What do you mean 'contains a menu program' ? The program has to run on some hardware (i.e. the dvd player). All these companies have to do is hack the dvd program so that it ignores the 'die' command, and then there will be no problem playing discs. Likewise, they can send back any region code they want until the contents are viewable.

as if a million webservers cried out and were silenced...
Now if only we could persuade the entire population of China to relocate...
After all, we all know how secure MS software is.
Erm...please explain how exactly will the record companies force me to stop using mp3/ogg ?

And more to the point, if we find any, will the MPAA sue the universe ?
My suggestion:
"You better play what we say or you'll get this baseball bat up your a** !!"
