I really like Firefox Sync. Been using it since it was Weave (not that long ago...) and on my own server. I wish Chrome would support it. Also that when Fennec comes out for real it'll let you use your own servers!
If you're going to make a guide telling people where to solder chips onto a board, you should really, REALLY make the effort to have those pictures be in focus.
Oh I've got a quad-core - when I built that desktop AMD had just released the AM3 CPUs which made the Phenom II X4 940 a LOT cheaper. And frankly I have zero performance issues with this machine, so I really have no plans on upgrading (;
As for the Bulldozer core, I mean, seriously the last REAL leap on x86 was, what, when Pentium went from pure CISC to a RISC/CISC hybrid kinda thing? We're still running the same basic architecture. Sure, we're 64-bit rather than 32, but you know.
Not saying the new CPUs aren't cool, but I just want to see what the next leap will be already! I didn't spend most my life reading science fiction to NOT have light-based computers yet!
Looks like we're still adding cores and cache to the CPUs, but we're not really coming up with anything really revolutionary. Last really interesting idea was Transmeta's ill-fated effort. Come on, people, innovate!
That said, I think it might be time for me to upgrade my desktop. It's still got an AM2 CPU!
No, he was a guy who talked to a few scientists and wrote a book about it. I'm not saying he wasn't doing a good job, I'm saying the headline might be a biiit alarmist.
I heard an interview with the guy who wrote that book on NPR yesterday. Practically every sentence he spoke contained a "Maybe" or a "We don't know for sure" or an "It's possible that..."
His entire interview was preceded by him saying this is all theories and may not be correct at all and that there's actually no scientific proof of any of this.
One of my first gigs, the Rock Star Developers had admin rights. They'd pretty much do whatever they friggin wanted. And guess who got to blame when they screwed up? Yup, the sysadmin. Namely, me.
They'd go in and reboot servers - servers with 100 people logged in and working on stuff - because they thought their database was out of memory. Not tell anyone, nothing. One time they enabled an rsync script that pretty much overwrote a week's worth of work. And who got blamed? The sysadmin, for not making it impossible for that script to work anymore. Or something. It was crazy.
So basically, yes, it's an accountability thing. If I'm responsible for these machines, then I'm in charge. Period.
Yeah, that's what I came here to say. Guy makes some good points (that, face it, aren't new) but tries way too hard to be funny. That 'voice' was way too annoying.
Any number greater than one counts as several. I personally used FVWM in the early 90s, which were over a decade ago. Therefore FVWM has been around for several decades.
Works for me. He also said he's working on an app that'll do the backup for people who can apparently handle rooting and uploading custom ROMs to their phone but can't handle a few adb commands.
Honestly, I don't LIKE all the googlifying of the phone. The default ROM on a Mytouch 3G (how pervy is that name, btw?) doesn't even let you skip the google signup.
I'll definitely put SOME Google apps back on my phone (Google Maps, Listen, etc) but I'm pretty happy to not be REQUIRED to.

You know they're just going to go and buy Wordpress now and integrate it into Office, don't you.
There really needs to be a +1 OMFG moderation option.

Nah, that's just more bits. It's still x86. Again, not complaining, just saying there wasn't a huge leap anytime recently.
Yeah, whatever the Next Big Thing is, it'll have to emulate x86/x86_64 pretty darn well...

I'm not saying not to pay attention to the guy, I'm saying not to pay that much attention to the alarmist nature of the headline.

So, grain of salt.
That's GNU/Hurd!
Oh wait.
What's the problem? Not like anything interesting is going on around there.
I wouldn't use such sophisticated machines for something as trivial as a prom! I have a driveway that needs shovelling!
I'll take four.
Probably make SOMEone happy...
I can't WAIT to see all those cute kitten videos in 3D!!!
HELL no.

Ok, so give several more years (;

This is the first time I've wanted to get a Playboy since I was 12.
She likes it so far. It's apparently better than biking 20 miles in windy 40 degree conditions!

That's way too big for what she's looking for. She got a Fit yesterday.
