There might be a lot of R&D, but also a lot of crap.
Thinking that you can hide this precious R&D in software without anyone seeing is nonsense. (The software interface is all that is needed for writting drivers). Your competitor is going to need at most a few weeks more before they dissassembled everything. If that is enough for them to steal your market your card wasn't as far ahead as you thought.
This 'black magic beyond us mere mortals' attitude is exactly what is to blame for this kind of thing spreading. (ie NVidea not releasing specs to their ethernet chip which ofcourse contains a lot of expensive R&D) Most stuff simply isn't as impressive as those companies want you to think.
I agree self-taught is great, however you should be carefull not to fall in the 'I don't need school' trap. Self teaching works best for those subjects you are really interested in, use school to bring the rest up to 'standard'.
Even if you teach yourself a subject its great to hear it again in school, the teacher will most likely teach it from another viewpoint and I have found that this can help you from knowing about it to totally understanding it.
In a way the Yahoo agreement can be seen as a statement that you wouldn't want to leave these messages to your next of kin, afterall he did agree to it.
It is surprising in the way these mountains are on the moon's equator and form a nice belt. That there is little erosion isn't a surprise, but the mountains origin is far more interesting. On earth mountains are all results of our molten core (plate tektonics and vulcanoes). There must be some process that created this moutain belt.
Yes, not knowing the complete morse code and not being able to follow a 20wpm conversation does not mean you can't explain why it works so well.
E.g. It only takes a very simple transmitter that is simply turned on and off to transmit morse code.
Morse code can also be transmitted with very limited bandwidth making it possible for better fault tolerant communication.
I know this (and would expect other HAMS to know it) because I know the basic theories behind morse code (and other digital modes btw). The fact that I only know a handfull of characters doesn't change that.
How exactly does ones ability to learn morse code relate to ones technical skills? Its one of those BS arguments you hear all the time about morse code.... Its like saying that they are less technically savvy since they don't even have to be able to speak spanish anymore.
I do agree with you on the technical exam however, I think it is e.g. a good thing to require a HAM to be able to explain WHY morse code is a good mode.
An EE that dismisses magnetic fields is a crap EE. Hint: Electric and magnetic fields are kind of related, try creating a current without either one of them.
I learned a lot from subtitled TV.... Pretty much anything aimed not at children is subtitled in the Netherlands. Its great to have the original audio together with the translation.
Another great way once you know the basics is watching the BBC with teletext page 888 on. (subtitles for the deaf) You also learn some spelling and sometimes its actually clearer than some guy talking with a terrible accent.
Although re-synched can also be great if it is not your own language... I learned to understand german pretty well by watching an our of StarTrek each day.
Does that act cover the medical information of the deceased to? (Lava stream usually are kind of lethal....) And if it does is there a maximum time limit? (This is supposed to happened a long time ago)
Were did you get that bullshit? UTC is GMT. There is no 12 hour difference. ALso your London time is nonsense since they have daylights saving time so it might differ one hour with GMT depending on the time of year.
There still isn't anything that sounds exciting.... Just because an idea is 30 year old doesn't make it a bad idea. (Arguably it was a brilliant idea since it is still good after 30 years). It might be written from scratch, but that doesn't mean it is based on better ideas. What exactly makes this OS better? What idea that is incorporated is better than the 30 year old idea?
I never said others don't. Is being an asshole justified just because others are? I just mentioned that the US polutes (which it does, no doubt about that)....
Saying that a country does stupid things (ie polution) does not mean you hate the country... It simply means you do not agree. Ironicly the 'with us or against us' attitude is one of the things the stereotype-american is well known for (and often hated)....
My week starts on monday (Its the worst day, lets get it done as early as possible). The only reason I rest on sunday is due to a good saterday evening/night.
It doesn't sound strange to me... It sounds like a load of crap.

He could have used another mail provider.

We have cable. You get BBC1 and BBC2 in the standard package. There isn't any advertising on it (besides the BBC advertising itself) that I have seen.

There is an checkbox option to indicate if you are from the EU... So indeed, don't hesitate if you are from outside the EU.
Atleast he got the most important thing right: the ordering (large to small). Nothing is as braindead as mixing that up. (yes, I mean the US style)

Sure you can, you just end up with some new constants (e.g. speed of light).
