On the other hand you do end up with an IT department that knows linux. When you discuss linux on your desktop with them they won't give you the stupid look you get from MS reboot monkeys.

A $90 stereo will probably be better than 90% of the users can hear. The speakers have a far greater influence on that. The other 10% is usually fooling themselves (ie the kind that thinks they hear better with their wallets empty).
Heh.. I used google to do the conversion and it defaults to US gallons. Another good example why it is important to use only one unit and make sure everything is in the exact same unit when comparing measures:)
If your numbers are correct (lets assume that for a moment) all you have done is prove that the current model for evolution doesn't explain everything. You have proven the need for a better model, but not the need for intelligence.
Your 0.1% model is clearly wrong... It asumes a single genetic line. In a large enough population after 500 generations you can have two individuals with 39.6% difference from their ancestor but 73.8% difference from each other. If it is a species that can exchange genetic material (for example by having two sexes) those two individuals can have offspring that has 73.8% difference from their ancestor. And this is just by having one such exchange in 500 years, if this happens more often changes can be huge.
I don't really mind that half the world is using backwards units (which half might depend on your viewpoint) but please don't mix gallons and liters when comparing measurements.... 5-6 gallon batches would mean something around 20 liters btw.
The effects will be gone very quickly afterwards.. (As long as they don't actually fry anything your blood will cool down quickly) Teargas is very visible when used and leaves traces. You can use this one almost invisible (just some people getting headaches, but its hard to be sure they actually used the device or not unless you have people in the crowd monitoring those frequencies)
Which isn't that different from what we have here in the Netherlands... This thing isn't anything like a real telephone line but approximates it enough to get audio in and out off the telephone and supply the telephones logic.
In part you gave the answer already... it is clear since you already seem to know about the lgpl. The GPL is very clear about linking it (even non-static). The whole becomes a derivative. If you don't want it search for code under another license such as the lgpl you already know about.
Take a random broadband router or access point that runs linux. It usually comes down to a standard kernel with just a little bit of hardware glue such as the memory layout and maybe a few device drivers.
With most companies "we don't wan't to open EVERYTHING we write" usually translates to "We just want to leach without giving anything back". Alternativly they just don't read it properly. You don't have to open everything. Just the stuff that is a derrivative of the GPLed program.
Those companies try to make you believe they have this huge pile of code and they add a little bit of GPL code. It usually is the other way around: they use huge amounts of GPL code (e.g. an entire kernel) and add a little bit off their own.
On the other hand it is kind of handy to just be able to use the ethernet interface without having to open the case to check if it was the pc with the 3com or the one with the realtek NIC..... (I guess OpenBSD guys are so 1337 that they never use closed cases anyway:)
The point of the network driver is to offer a standard abstracted interface to your hardware.
So basicly they did the right thing because by protecting it (and pretending your competitor or some patent owner with a big bag off money is incapable of reverse engineering it within a week) you get the following advantage:
- You get people on slashdot to think 'there must be a reason, there must some 1337 trick in there somewhere...' which dosn't really help selling anything since the market for these things is cheap PCs
- You might get away with patent infrigment.
So you end up with a company that has either an incompetent marketing department or are thieves or possibly both. I think I'll give NVIDIA the benefit of the doubt and assume they just don't get it yet.... (Que also-clueless-nvidia-binary-only-driver-user...) Jeroen
I wonder if they will release proper specs for it this time..... Last time they pretended their integrated ethernet controller had some super-secret part in it that had to be protected.... For graphic controllers you might get away with such an argument (although I personally don't think it holds even there) but for a simple ehternet controller it just made them look stupid.
Wish me luck, I want to take this to my old physics prof.
Why? Do you enjoy being laughed at?

He wrote 'normal' roads, not highways.....
So yes he is living the the same Europe you are allowed to drive 90KM/h or 80KM/h in most countries.
Actually the Enterprise was blow to pieces in ST-III...
It was a Klingon bird of prey.

t was blatantly not a misdirected mail as my email address couldn't be confused with any major electronics retailer.
You would be surprised how many people manage to click on wrong addressess in address books and send emails without checking....

Nice rant for someone who can't even be bothered to write 'pe1rxq' correctly :)
If it is worth $30,000 it is not just some small irrelevant or trivial part....

Atleast its better than searching through a pile of seemingly random numberred symlinks....

If you listen to pretty much anybody not in the teaching bussiness you will soon find that goto is not such a bad thing....
