  2. What kind of encryption was that?! on Cloud Firm MediaFire Flags Malware Samples For DMCA Violation, Bans Researcher · · Score: 1

The files were said to be encrypted, so how could anyone identify the files as a violation of copyright? Either someone encrypted the file with a Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring, or LeakID is throwing false positives in an effort to run up the tab on its customers. I strongly suggest anyone subscribing to LeakID's service seriously review their billing statements.

  3. Re:Once again. on FBI Launches $1 Billion Nationwide Face Recognition System · · Score: 1

Who do you think has inspired all government intelligence agencies ever since? "You mean people will put up with THAT?! All you have to do is dupe them into believing it is for their own safety?! Sweet!"

  4. We can trust these guys, right? on FBI Launches $1 Billion Nationwide Face Recognition System · · Score: 5, Funny

There are a lot of concerns being voiced, but come on folks... When has the FBI ever been used to track those with opposing political points of view?

"What about the Free journalists in countries like the USA where they should not be considered "dissidents"? Perhaps this was just an oversight on your part. In the USA, many Journalists are called dissidents by US Government Agencies (CIA/DHS/TSA) but that is not correct constitutionally." - Silly hippie, free speech is one step away from godless communism and definitely an un-American activity.

  7. Re:Field dependent requirement on Ask Slashdot: How Many of You Actually Use Math? · · Score: 1

"Thump! Thump! Thump!" The thing a lot of people miss about higher math has nothing to do with the ability to manipulate tensor fields in an n-dimensional asymptotic space. Unless your job includes astrophysics, that really isn't the point. The point is learning to solve problems that occur in the real world, no matter how complex. That trivial bit of code may only include some high school level bit of numerical analysis but mean everything to the person who requested it.

  8. Re:Here we go! on Peter Jackson Announces Third Hobbit Movie · · Score: 2

There is a lot of material to work with, like the Silmarillion. Unfortunately, many of the narratives were not completed by Tolkien and I'm not sure there is anyone alive with the vision, vocabulary and poetic skill to fill in the blanks. I cringe to think what Hollywood would do to something like that. "Why is there hip-hop music playing in Valinor?!"

In what bizarre interpretation of the US Constitution would this be allowed? Oh wait, I get it, that only protects written works that were published by a device identified as a "press". Since the internet is NOT a press, what you write on the internet is not considered protected. Civil liberties are no longer a right of being human, they are now a technicality that must be navigated around.
