What are you talking about? Taxes in NY state aren't that bad; if they were so many companies wouldn't set up shop there. Besides which, most of them incorporate in like Delaware, so they're not paying nearly as much as you seem to think.
While you may disagree with my philosophy about achievement and rights (see Atlas Shrugged [atlasshrugged.tv] you cannot fail to see the problems when a state uses force to keep a company from exercising their right to move their company elsewhere.
Considering how shamelessly corps threaten to leave in order to get tax breaks, I don't really mind if the state fights back.
Damn, you RPI guys are so insecure. So many posts extolling the virtues of the school, insistences that they would just have to be involved in a project like this, comparisons to MIT insisting that RPI is better.
I mean, it's a good school guys, you don't have to be so insecure about it.
Actually, it has. The Hudson is MUCH cleaner than it was before; near the headwaters it's now possible to eat fish caught in it, and swim in the once-filthy waters. Of course, the farther you get downstream the worse it gets, and water around here (NYC) is still dioxin and heavy-metal enriched, but still noticeably cleaner.
It was funny. Once. Now in every damn story it's gotten insanely old. Maybe the reason that geeks are socially awkward is because they laugh at the same jokes every day.
Finally, someone suggests the originator of the whole genre. A lot of people who consider themselves electronica fans seem to believe that the music began in the 90's...
I mean, if you want a FOUNDATION you've got to start with Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and Mike Oldfield...
Ever met someone in marketing or "corporate strategy"? They are possibly the most clueless people on earth:
"Hey, we have 25 million customers in the US; if we could capture the same percentage of the Chinese market we'd have 120 million customers! We'd more than quadruple our revenues!"
"But China has a ludicrously low GDP; there's no way we'll get 120 million people who can pay that much for our product."
"No, no, don't you see? 120 million is MORE than 25 million! A LOT more! SEE?"
No, the AP doesn't editorialize, they were simply reporting on a report by a panel. Slashdot is well-established as a commercial operation, can't we have a little bit of professionalism?
I was simply pointing out that plotwise he manages to avoid most of the cliches that everyone else in hollywood runs into.
Even in phantom menace, which was his weakest movie, he managed to break the mold of the traditional hollywood adventure movie. Wasn't saying he was soaring to profound heights, just that you could go to one of his movies and not know everything that was going to happen.
Uhh, you do know that ads don't generate money themselves, right? If a user knows that they're going to ignore the ads, why not take them out? I mean, no sales will be lost.
If they are worried about people giving bandwidth away. Instead of chasing off potential customers. Why don't they just charge for bandwidth usage like a lot of them are anywaiz. That way, even if someone gives it away using wireless, they get their money and everyone is somewhat happy.
As a Time-Warner NYC cable customer I LIKE not having to worry about bandwidth charges, and I sure as hell wouldn't be "happy" if a bunch of cheap yahoos who are too 37337 to just follow the damn TOS messed it up for the rest of us.
they taste better and are the same thing, dietetically
Except hershey bars don't have the fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that fruit has. That's dietetically speaking. Of course, you're right about the sugar and weight-gain part, but the difference is that fruit will fill you up more because of the fiber, so you'd probably eat less of it than hershey bars.
I guess you don't understand. Of course anything's safe if it's stored "safely", but that's a pretty damn vague term.
ONE LARGE MASS OF RADIOATIVE STUFF IS EASIER TO HANDLE THAN LOTS OF SMALL MASSES. But nitwits like you prefer the small masses because you can't see them. That's good thinking.
IDIOT. It's a LOT of large masses. That's what I don't understand about you; are you really so inanely stupid that you can't realize that this stuff accumulates, and have LONG halflives? Hell, this is elementary logic. The more waste you store, the less room you have, and the more likely there is to be an accident. Maybe you should enroll in an accredited college this time, you simpleton.
But he's a terrible writer and he doesn't know how to direct actors.
He's actually a talented writer, but just has problems with dialogue. Plotwise I think most of the stuff he written has been very good; I can't think of anyone else who can break out of movie stereotypes like him.
As for the actor thing, you might be right, but I do think some of the blame can be placed on the actors; I get a feeling a lot of them just don't understand science fiction well enough to act convincingly. Look at the Matrix; even usually talented actors like Laurence Fishburne did horrible jobs. Hell, look at most sci fi movies over the past few decades.
I am familiar with the works of Ayn Rand. I find them utterly without value.

Tax slave? So they were forced at gunpoint to set up shop in New York?
I hate to say this, but New York City, L.A. and San Francisco/Silcon Valley are *NOT* the center of this vast and great country of ours!
Right, just New York City is.

Hmmm, that's completely and utterly wrong in its entirety. The richest nations on Earth are the ones with the most expensive labor.

There were what, 2?
Nah, Batman's just too smart. He'll think of a way.
And Superman seems to be especially dumb when it comes to kryptonite, as he always succumbs to whoever has it.

Great way to hone your abstract spatial skills too. It teaches you to think in 3d...

Don't make me punch you through the screen...
I sense hostility in you...
You can use those lines, if you don't mind being beaten up by a girl in public...
There's always someone bigger and tougher, my friend...
It's an interesting read, especially if you answer to an 800lb gorilla for outages and uptime issues.
You really want to see someone go berserk over downtime, try running a MUD...
