p2p users are targeted heavily by the anti piracy groups because p2p users are comprised largly by individuals with very shallow pockets.Google could potentially even the playing field here.
...Not to say that Google is doing it for this reason...or that piracy is justified. Just saying a company with this much influence could change the media industry's approach on combatting illegal activities.
my mom worked at a video rental store for a bit and I'd loiter around a lot.
$75 was norm--up to 150 for big time releases. The tapes would then go on sale for 15-$20 after they've made enough money on rentals or when the tapes were played so much that quality started to wane. I think producing the videos on linear media took a significant block of time, even after the progression of the technology. Probably why the prices remained high even after years of use.
One day I saw what they do to "fix" bad tracking sections on the tape. They just cut it out. 2 seconds of bad tracking was like 10 feet of tape. I got a kick out of how they could chop this out and no one would notice.
"Those are more about holding the soldier responsible for their actions,
rather than for actual security..."
I will have to disagree. Security clearances were designed to effect a level of control tight enough that it would deter most people from obtaining the material illicitly or accidentaly.
Cleareance does not grant people access by virture of being cleared. The need-to-know is very much a part of the security procedure. Just because you have a secret clearance as a network technician doesn't mean you have access to known terrorist dossiers marked with "Secret" on the front. Sometimes marking material secret is done just to keep troops from spurting out information like troop movements or battle plans. Thousands of people need to be involved in these kinds of actions so it isn't exactly a big secret...but you can't just have people running their mouths.
Also, the higher the clearance, the higher level of control. so its difficult to compare the level of importance they place on high clearance material to the clearance they give to the masses of grunts. without being exposed to the world of Top Secret or higher you just wouldn't understand how serious they take this business.
for $500, I'd expect something that at least attempts to compete with iPhone.
With the space limitation for applications it seems that this phone is worthless on any network outside of T-mobile. Verizon and AT&T offer phones with less limitations. The only upside is the price savings potential when switching to T-mobile and taking full advantage of voip services.
In a way its like the phone price is subsidizing the price of the contract, rather than the contract allowing you to buy the phone at a cheaper price.
blind dial, I'll agree with you.
I, however, almost never find myself in a situation where I have to do so. Most of the time I only call people on my contacts.
I have seen MUCH more time savings from a screen keyboard on text messaging and email writing. no physical buttons means I don't have to wait for the button to give me a physical response, like the button pushing back to its normal position. I definitely feel speed and accuracy are not an issue after a bit of practice.
I think what iamhassi is trying to get at is the price isn't good in comparison to what your getting..
Yes the price for the device itself is competitive but you are also paying for access...Access to applications. For the same price you get access to 5x more apps on Apple. Android apps are smaller in quantity and often are designed for the phone with the lowest capabilities. And those that buy the nexus now will probably be disappointed because there are few apps that take full advantage of what their phone can do.
My thoughts exactly. You're looked at as a monkey wrench more than a skilled laborer. I didn't mind it when I was in the service as well, but everyone was uniformed. Besides I was not much more than a monkey wrench at times any way:)
With conspicious uniforms mandated for your help desk and NO ONE ELSE, I'd imagine it equivalent to taping a bulls-eye to your back on a battlefield.
This may be the desired effect from management but the HD will probably despise it. Every time a coworker passes by you and your neat little t-shirt, it will remind them about that computer problem that just cant wait untill you are done eating...or smoking that cigarette, or taking a leak in the public restroom.
I know that this feeling is already experienced by those of us in IT, but I think this would worsen the problem.
...but others (office apps, line-of-business apps) have transformed how we do business for the better...
I have no arguments to make with you, except for that office app Powerpoint! Countless work hours around the world have been lost because of this abomination. How many times have we sat in on a seminar with powerpoint slides outlining every point made verbally while watching useless swirling text animation on the screen and laser sounds competing for the speakers attention?
Really? Why?
There are a massive number of paid apps developed for these phones because developers have noticed that these users have no qualms about paying $500 for a cell phone. Chances are these people are willing to pay cash for an app along with it. It's money chasing and there's nothing wrong with that.
Try not to let your nationalist pride get in the way with the facts.
Fat people are not discriminated at all? I wouldn't say that's 100 percent true. I have lived in your country for a few years, and while it may not be a big issue culturally, I did see some make fun of fat people.
Besides, your country has more important people to discriminate against. Kurds, Armenians, Gypsies.
the shock wave produced by grenade explosions are in fact pretty dangerous. The compression waves are enough to rupture internal organs, if close enough
Lasers lasers lasers! I'd imagine long distance battles (10's, 100's, 1000's of km) so anything traveling less than the speed of light would be horribly ineffective against evasive maneuvers.
And someone needs to invent something that makes laser pew pew sounds in the void of space!
Every now and then I take a look at my gmail spam folder, and none of the messages contain links or even coherent sentences.
Nothing being sold, nothing being said... What's the point?
Take heed to the lilly botanical before racing and suffer the pullback!
These puzzle me too. You know what I think it is? I think those are test messages sent by spammers--to test mail filters for which words trigger a junk mail alert.
More competition and new products entering the E-reader market? Awesome. I love it
If they think I'm still going to pay the price of a hardcover book for nothing but a digital copy that can be revoked from my reader, I'M STILL NOT BUYING THIS JUNK.
"... I'll advertise that you'll have up to 10mbps connection speed and unlimited bandwidth, and you'll get it. But if you ever come close to using the maximum potential of the service you actually paid for I'm gonna cripple or stop you completely."
If these companies are going to be doing this they just need to stop calling their service packages "unlimited."
Too bad there isn't any real competition in this sector. We all just eat it.
Algae seems like a nifty option, as far as I've read into it. I'm just tired of these nutbags trying to find another use for corn. I got corn up the wazoo already.
If we are going to use food crops it might as well be something thats more efficient in converting to fuel. Corn is terrible as it costs so much energy to transfer corn into a biofuel. I've heard that sugar cane is much better, but that still competes with food source.
As for growing plants on land that food farms don't use, how long until we run out of that? nearly 1/3rd of habitable landmass is already devoted to farming. How much more can we sustain while still having room to live in?
Algae farms would interest me here because we could possibly expand these operations to the ocean and not compete with living space or food sources.
I feel your pain. I've had multiple superiors that I would write emails and memos for because I was so embarrased by the comments that were sent down IT's way. I'm no grammar expert, but I would at least make an attempt to proof the messages. That was an easier option than re-convincing my customers I am competent at my job.
rofl omg i been usin tech 4 a looooooong time since i wuz a kid now i read good but my boss tellz me not to send emails and memos nemore cuz no1 can read em lol!!!1

or 15 million in revenue for being a mediocre application on a platform with a much larger userbase?

...But what if I added to the rumor here... Maybe this fabled device clamshells with 2 touchscreens?!?!?!
**!!!Dramatic Music!!!**
I'm not even a terrorist and I can dream up shit like this in a few minutes.
That's what lots of real terrorists say too. Good job, Uncle Cheney's gots some friends listening on your phone now. heh.

Ask Bruce Willis. He knows nukes in space will do nothing unless you bury it WITHIN the asteroid!

What, no mention of chair throwing?
Here's my slightly offtopic rant for all you slashdotters that go on multi-paragraph tirades about personal pet peeves.
Woop dee doo. I don't deem my own message all that important so I could care less if my $ signs are distracting from the overall message.
It's the internet, man. Can't we just have a little fun with it?
