Yeah, I'm the same way. Five different browsers on my mac, and I'm still not really happy with any of them. I mostly like my mac, but god dammit, can't Apple put some resources into, and make a decent browser. I've finally decided on Opera, because it gets the closest to what I want out of a browser. (i.e. bookmarking all tabs, moving tabs around, session saver, etc.). But even Opera I'm not really happy with - although as I learn how to use it more, it's getting better.

I just resaw fight club last night, and the Tyler Durden character does the same thing. He calls it 'human sacrifices'. The one they show in a movie is a guy working at a convience store, and Tyler pulls him out back and convinces the guy he is going to kill him. At the same time he gets the guy to admit he always wanted to be a biologist (I think). He takes the guys Drivers License, tells him he now knows where the guy lives, and in 6 weeks if he isn't on the path to getting his degree, he's going to come back and kill him. Talk about a motivator.

This looks like the same article as the one in their print edition, and they also left out the Amazon Web Services. Personally I'd trust amazon with my data before any of these organizations, and the amazon service looks like it's way cheaper. This is typical of the sloppy reporting I regularly see in PC world.

I actually get the print edition of PC world for free, and I'm not sure it's even worth that. Occasionally, they have worthwhile articles, but so many of them seem to be half-assed, badly researched, or just woefully incomplete. Besides this review, I saw another article where someone wrote in asking which bit-rate to encode their mp3s at. IIRC, their answer was that 160kbps was a reasonable compromise, which is an ok answer, but they completely ignored the option of VBR, and gave their answer as if CBR was the only way to encode mp3s. Anyone with even passing familiarity with this issue, knows that VBR blows CBR out of the water. Unless you need compatibility with some very old piece of hardware, there are very few good reasons to even consider not using VBR.

At least according to the Rick Steves' Italy book I am reading. In describing a clock tower in the San Marco Piazza in Venice he says:
"The clock tower, a Renaissance tower built in 1496, marks the entry to the main shopping drag... From the Piazza you can see the bronze men (moors) swinging their huge clappers at the top of each hour. In the 17th century one of them knocked an ususpecting worker off the top and to his death -- probably the first ever killing by a robot."

Only 400 years earlier than this recent accident, and I think it qualifies about as well for "death by robot".

(p.s. - I just remembered what quote I have in my sig. Oddly appropriate for this story)

not according to the wikipedia article you linked. The wiki article states most of the money is used to purchase hiv drugs from approved sources (basically people that respect our IP laws). But it also is used for abstinence only sex-ed:

"The plan also provides funding for abstinence-only HIV/AIDS and sex education in African countries such as Uganda. Human Rights Watch opposes abstinence-only programs as they deny young people information about other ways of preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS, such as the use of condoms."

So it looks like none of the money is used to provide condoms or information about condoms.

One notable exception are the cameras/video-cameras. They have partnered with Zeiss to have Carl Zeiss lenses in all of their cameras and video-cameras. These are very nice high end lenses it and gives them a big boost of credibility in an area they have recently entered.

After quite a bit of research, I ended up with a Sony MiniDV video-camera, and I'm pretty happy with it. As for digital cameras, I'd probably get a Canon or Nikon, but Sony makes some pretty nice ones also.

del.icio.us does most of what you want.

But, it does allow you to export your bookmarks to xml, so I guess you could write a perl script or something to turn it into a native safari format (or one may already exist).

    2) Assuming your friends use del.icio.us, you can subscribe to their account, and when they bookmark something it will show up in your del.icio.us inbox. Alternatively, if you don't want everything they mark, they can put 'for:yourName' as a tag, and it will get sent to you.

    3) Del.icio.us allows you to mark your bookmarks as private so no one else can see them.

Even on a NTSC signal, the HDTVs just looked sharper, better color, etc. IIRC, the price was around $500. 25. possible spiritual successor to TRIBES? on GDC 06 So Far · · Score: 1

What I'm really excited about this GDC is a possible spiritual successor to TRIBES. Garage Games has a booth there, and they employ many of the people who created the original TRIBES game, which most of you probably remember as one of the most innovative FPSs of its time (vehicles, jet packs, skiing, command map, etc.).

There have been lots of hints lately that GG will be unveiling something similar to TRIBES to show off their new Torque Shader Engine, but they are being very coy about the whole thing. Speculation is that they don't own the IP to TRIBES, so they need to be very carefull about comparing what they are doing to TRIBES.

    here are some details.

a quote from an employee at GG:
"The only scary thing is that, while the GDC demo is expected to turn more than a few heads, unrealistic expectations are dangerous. Yes, you guys would probably flip your shit if you saw the demo, but I don't think GarageGames wants to be known for crushing hopes and dreams. I don't want to dampen the speculation, just temper it a bit.

Keep the hopes and dreams. We've still got them."
