The Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) radio show 'This is That' did a piece a while ago about a group proposing an Innovation Hour as an alternative to Earth Hour... in short, "If it has a switch, click it!" They're asking people of the world to turn everything in their houses and businesses on, or "run it hot," for one hour to celebrate in ingenuity behind innovation.
Are you implying the Germans (and other parts of the world) have not figured this out? that they sit in the dark all evening? Yes - of course solar is not the only energy source but then again typically, consumption is substantially lower for much of those dark hours so you don't require as much infrastructure to meet the demand...
To a certain extent, I agree. I just wish that someone would tell the Germans that their grandmothers should find and put their bikini tops on and that thongs on octogenarians (of either gender) just aren't right.
Do you really - I mean, really - think that you are at the risk of experiencing tyranny from your duly elected government in the US? Give your head a shake.
Unless the materials mined in space magically disappear, will they not have survived their impact with the Earth's surface when their spaceship lands?
And once you try to bring them into the US, US laws apply... think CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) i.e., you might be able to legally catch a three pecker wood toad in BoraBora but if its protected under CITES, you face legal consequences if you're caught bringing it into the US. And, I think they'd notice an arriving spaceship...
Gravity makes things fall so it was Isaac Newton who caused the decline of the Roman Empire (and it was Michael J Fox who transported him back in time to do the deed)
> Uh, maybe the fact I'm not pointing my gun at them?
You're assuming that everyone [with a gun] is capable of behaving rationally in an entirely irrational situation. you are pointing your gun at someone else just like the initial shooter is doing. Do you trust the person on the far side of the theater to know that you're not an accomplice?
> and no amount of fact or rational thought can change that.
And you are entitled to your opinion too (even if it is wrong)
Yeah... I happen to presume that taking a hand gun to the theater is idiotic but that is just my personal opinion... in fact, I think it says a lot about your culture (or personal insecurity) if you feel that you need to do this. Of course, you are entitle to disagree.
No, I cannot cite examples... it was a question (i.e., how... [sorry I forgot the question mark at the end]).
> Still there is a chance that you would be able to do that under lucky circumstances. And that chance justifies permission to carry weapons.
This sort of attitude strikes me as just nuts. You're in a dark crowded space full of panicking people with a handgun that is not particularly accurate under ideal circumstances. Once you start shooting, how are the other whackjobs with guns (oops, my bias slipped out there) supposed to know whether you're one of the 'good guys' or not? In the best possible scenario you injure the shooter so they can face trial... in all of the other out comes, there are more deaths and injuries and you run the risk of getting shot yourself.
But the outer skin has been damaged (or not... I'm just reading the comments and may get to the original article later on)... so, any case, with the outer skin damaged, it could still burn up on reentry...
Di-hydrogen oxide in water causes far more damage and health risks than flouride... it should be banned immediately!
BTW - "This is That" is a satirical/comedy 'News' show... they've duped many folks with 'stories' like the one above.

I'm holding my breath too ... but that's because I just farted (and besides stinking, methane has a much higher GWP than CO2).
GWP ==> Global Warming Potential
published with a brown paper wrapper too?
And does your friend still respect him/her-self on Saturday morning?

I knew I came to /. for a reason... and I just figured out that it is to get expert advice on social skills and how to meet girls
ahhh...if they have facial recognition software do they also need the RFID's? Isn't that overly redundant?

That's because it's a car.... not an airplane. Jeez... look who's the smarty-pants now

Can you provide examples to support your claim?

That hardly sounds stabilizing to me.
"evolution is a really really bad theory for explaining the transition from nothingness to human life"
I agree - a deity proclaiming "let there be life" is far more plausible

Maybe Canada will want to buy it now...
Did you hear about that really good deal we got on the [damaged] submarines from the Brits?

What about the douchebags who are getting around the countryside without insurance?
