SOPA/PIPA was stopped because of people writing and calling their congressmen but that seems to be the exception to the rule. Any time I write my congressman be it mail or Email, he doesn't change the way he votes, and then he sends me all sorts of campaign propaganda and asks me to donate to him. Ya right..
Ya got to love this competition that drives these major cellular companies to offer prices that are very competitive and it seems they are always trying to out do each other with their outrageous deals.
Ya I'm a pc gamer and I've only sever seen xbox live used and never used it myself but I am baffled at why people pay to get ads on their xbox and to play games online, when you're already paying for the internet connection, why should it matter if your console is connecting or not. It would be like paying for my tablet to connect to my wifi and get online and play scrable or what ever. Why do xbox users put up with this?
This is just another case of some government guy who doesn't really understanding tech and that cloud is just a marketting word thinking that it is some great new technology.
hmm I guess all those reports of certain games not working correctly if you had a different (older) hardware revision of the console were just false then and that no such thing ever happened.
I've always been baffled at people buying Mac, hardware to me it's a bit like console gaming, which also baffles me these days, as it's got all the hassles PC gaming has these days with none of the flexibility.
You know of all the places to build a bullet train California seems one of the worst places to do it. Forgetting for a moment that the state already has crippling debt, lets think about Earthquakes, which happens to be one of the natural disasters that strike with little to no warning. I can't imagine any sort of high speed mag lev line will have any sort of real earth quake tolerance, but maybe I'm wrong and some physics or engineering major can come on here and tell me why traveling at a huge speed, on a systems that requires a contiguous track in an earthquake prone region is a good idea.
Actually I think china is pretty aggressive in protecting its industries from foreign patent infringement it just isn't so aggressive in protecting western countries from infringement.
You have certain duties and get certain rights when you apply to get a 'common carrier' status, at any time if a company doesn't wish to be a common carrier they can do so. Until then they have certain duties.
Seriously I hate sounding like a fan boy but I can't think of many companies that would do this when they could likely sell this as DLC or something else for cash. I 3 Valve.
How is this any different from renting time on other supercomputer systems? Is it special because they added the word cloud to the mix? I mean seriously why are we using this stupid marketing term in any discussion about computers these days. I don't know how many times my clients ask me about the 'cloud' and I have to explain that all that means is you're storing your data or using the computing power of a remote server. It's a misleading and uninformative term like most marketing lingo. I think most people are starting to think we have found some new way to store data in actual clouds.
ya in college I had a professor who simply asked questions during his class, and had us discuss them and defend our answers I'd always leave his class with a serious headache, because damn thinking is hard. It certainly isn't something you're taught in school, school is all about absorbing facts and parroting stuff back it isn't about critical thinking skills at all.
Houston seems to have managed to get their replica to it's new home safely. Someone dropped the ball, you always factor in wind when on the water, always
Should of sent it to Texas, we were more careful with our shuttle replica than they were with the real things it seems. Someones head is going to roll over this I bet.
Why don't you go listen to the actual audio clip it's in chapter 2 a bit past the half way mark. She isn't some lunatic, and at the end when they are all done discussing the draw backs and downsides to her 'idea' she even says "in fiction it would work" it's just an idea they throw out for discussion on their show. It isn't like she is campaigning to have governments do this.
At the very end after they get done discussing the "idea" she even says "in fiction it would work". They are just generating ideas to discuss on their show.
I'll likely get down modded for this like crazy, but I think everyone is over reacting a huge amount. I actually listened to the clips and it is clear that Elizabeth is talking about a hypothetical situation. She isn't saying she advocates chipping everyone with ID chips in the real world. She was discussing a fictional hypothetical situation she even states it "if I were empress of the universe". Plus she does discuss, the privacy implications, and it's very reasoned. Her main objective was for some sort of method to identify Friend of Foe on the battlefield. She even admits to draw backs and such. You guys are acting like she is some raving lunatic wanting to destroy your lives.
Seriously you'd black list an author simply because you disagree with something they said? Man I cannot imagine how many good books I'd of missed if I did that. I don't have to agree with someones world view to enjoy something they write and moon does write some good scifi and they aren't just a way for her to espouse her beliefs world views etc.
Ya it seems to me CBS is being a putz, how many times has NASA delayed a launch? Launch delays are pretty par for the course when it comes to any sort of orbital ventures. These rockets are not simply devices and safety is taken very seriously because at the most basic level they are simply a controlled explosion, that runs the risk of becoming an uncontrolled explosion with the slightest problem.

Can any science/physics gurus tell me what sort of practical applications this has?

I read a big blog post the other day going on about why this was a scam, is it still a scam or has our thinking changed?

I bet now a bunch of retailers refuse to carry +r18 games, so publishers/developers still will make censored versions for Australia.
Here is an alternative title for the story 'House of Commons Uncommonly stupid'
You mean like this? http://www.click2houston.com/image/view/-/14428030/medRes/1/-/maxh/360/maxw/640/-/vrhrx6/-/shuttle54-jpg.jpg

Ya I read it pretty much as the same, this isn't so much as tech journalism as it is an opinion piece about a recent decision by AMD.

Look Google we get it you still take your whole 'don't be evil' thing serious but I think you might be brown nosing a bit now.
