even if you are a pargon of virtue, for a questionable value of virtue, most people aren't. For every person who is like yourself there are 20 people who are name calling google on/. while posting on their "made in china" computer. Those people are the ones that need to have this pointed out to them that google is no more evil than 95% of the country.
and if the Christian doctrine was correct then that would have been the better choice. If someone believes that the heathens will go to hell then it is better to keep them as slaves and save their soul. How could there be any other choice?
In this case we don't know why google choose what it did. It doesn't really matter if they made the right choice or not, the question is did they make the best choice they could, the choice that THEY thought would do the most good.
Obviously the discussion here on/. isn't clearly one way or the other on which is the most ethical choice, unlike the issue slavery. If there is room for reasonable people to disagree then it is unreasonable to assume you know the ethics of google. I personally can not name a company as large as google that has been as up front and honest as google. Can you name one? Three? Five?
or allow me to put it this way: The only reason this is news is because google has such a history of being a good company. They have earned peoples trust and for people to summarily throw that trust away makes no sense. Maybe this is the first step down a dark, sad path for google but that remains to be seen.
And we should compromise our security (arguably) and our knowledge of what the system is doing (certainly) for their profit margin why?
Because it is better for you as well? Because pages will load faster? the addition of a "ping" is not doing anything that can not already be done with other methods, it just makes things move faster for you and less bandwidth for certain servers.
It should be examined for potential pitfalls/exploits and there should be some discussion on whether or not to enable this by default, but it is that big of a deal. Compare it to so many other ways people tracks browsers, this is benign.
ps2 is harder to deal with than the xbox or gamecube. Doesn't say which has more potential, just which is easier. That is something that every one i have ever heard talk about working on both systems has said. Maybe you are different but that doesn't make you right.
While I think you could argue that if you can get enough people of their own free will to do something like this often enough, you could argue that there is a compelling public interest. To me this seems to be a very comparable form of civil, cyber disobedience. However it seems to me that argument addresses only a small part of the point.
He is being charged with a felony. A FELONY.
That means that, if convicted, in many states he would lose the right to vote, as well as effecting for the rest of his life in many way. Because of an action he advocated that causes no harm now does it endanger any people, that causes no harm to any property, he would lose what many consider our most sacred right as a democracy.
I don't think you advocating that it makes sense, i am just addressing the issue of balance for the crime.
Also, just sitting here thinking a bit more about it, I think that any time someone can get into trouble for speech, for example inciting someone to do some certain act, the people committing the act are ALSO accountable for what they have done. I mean, the act being committed has to be illegal for the incitement to be illegal. Are all the member of the flash mob prosecutable?
remove the word computer and replace it with phone, is it still wrong? Change it from going connecting to the server to coming into the office, still a DDoS?
Encouraging action from a large number of people shouldn't be wrong. Or to put it differently, you think everyone who ever puts a link up on/. is a criminal?
uhm, i believe the original poster, like myself, is American. We don't like looking at other countries that do anything better than us. So, we ask you: please, don't bring it up again, it makes us angry and hulk smash things that make him angry!
i must say thank you for reminding that i am as stupid as you for responding to this to tell you how mindless you must be to take the time to type what you did.
The trouble is that the solution people offer to inequity is usually what caused the problem in the first place.
No, there is inequity because that is because people are different.
Government equals power. Remove any official government and all you end up with is the powerful people as government.
Government is a social technology that works. If it didn't, we would not have had it for 6000+ years. If it didn't work you would not notice it evolving, changing to better suit peoples need. More evolution still needs to happen but regressing to a single cell organism while a nice notion isn't going to solve any problems.
Government has gotten bigger over the last 6000 years, not smaller. One perspective of a democratic ideal would be for EVERYONE to be government, which i suppose from one perspective would count as completely decentralized.

The feature you implement in PnP is a common one and has always seemed like the wrong answer to me.
The party should be able to realize when the challenge before them is the wrong one for the current group. When the world adjusts for the player you lose many valuable artifacts to enhancing realism - consistency, consequences and the thrill of the unknown.
The old genes within a plant also have the same chance, more likely a better chance, of evolving into something nasty. Do you spend a great deal of time worrying about that? Because there are a whole lot more of the OLD genes then the SINGLE new one.
Look, this screws us not the rest of the plant & animal kingdom. I will forever not understand why people champion an anti GM food agenda when there are so many other more serious, more urgent, issues. Sure, GM might end up screwing us over in the end, given enough time. We don't know what will happen, we don't know if it will be serious or trivial, near in time or far away.
However:
I do know that there are millions of people dying from a lack of food every year. I do know that global climate change is becoming more blindingly obvious every year. I do know that we are quickly moving towards a world where the current generation of antibiotics will be useless.
The faster we work on the problems that we know we have, the faster we can deal with the problems we might have someday.
While you point is totally valid, that the patch being offered might not be as secure as possible or should be, I think many MANY people are convinced that a dubious patch is better than none at all.
Also,/. does provide a weak form of security. I mean while it sounds like a good attack option to comprise the link, many people who download are already nervous because of this nasty, nasty attack. If the link became compromised somehow, one of the many thousands of/. crowd would find out and say something. A bad link wouldn't laast long.
Oh dear. Considering that your entire army cant control two 3rd world countries with a total population of around 50 million, where the governments are your puppets, I seriously doubt you could "invade and control" 400+ million people with high tech weapons, well organized armies, and fully developed infrastructure.
But you see, you have Frace hence you have no hope for victory.
How is editing and writing any different? You are still shaping the information that is conveyed.
"Michael is an asshat. Geniuses agree."

"Michael in a Genius."
While that is an extreme and ridiculous example, you will find many authors sing the praises of good editor. Simply knowing what to take out can totally change the meaning of a document.
Boring? BORING? This amazing universe, this amazing LIFE is BORING? If you think realism is boring my truest, heart felt condolences.
As for the disabled aspect, it is really kind of hard for something as subtle as a disability to be important in a movie without it taking up the whole movie - you only have 2 hours.
See, I think the mod system has worked and here is why: Your original post is at +5,you second post is modded flame bait, while you last one is again modded +5. I personally agree exactly with that order - the second post adds nothing to the conversation and is almost certainly wrong whereas the first and third try and point out some of the quite obvious flaws with the system.
The vast majority of Libertarians I have meet are either an agnostic or an atheist but even if all Libertarians were Heaven Gates members your post is just inflammatory. Even if people are dumb just calling them dumb is likely to inspire a nasty response, hence a troll.
Hell, if somebody has that much power and money, we shouldn't be "thanking" them for doing the right thing, it should be *expected* of them.
I am sorry but i am confused. The above sentence, is that talking about bill gates or the United States of America?? Because it is certainly more true the great USA, hell the entire western industrialized countries, then it is of Mr. Gates.
At this point and time if you are reading this you are almost certainly part of the most privileged people who have ever lived. Your country, whatever one it happens to be, has done far less than Mr. Gates has,at least on a percentage basis.
How many people have been saved because this autistic geek has decided to do what he has done, for whatever reason he has done it. I assure, the lives saved care not one wit why someone helped only that someone did.
