as far as I know anyways. Encryption is going to be just as safe for 99% of the world as having it sit on some hard drive within their control.
But that's beside the point. The vast majority of people don't have interesting data. The family photo album or the mp3 collection just doesn't matter to anyone but me most of the time. One person's treasure is another person's trash.
Or hell, let us be honest - most people browser the internet using IE. Most people are NOT worried about security. If you are worried about security you most likely already encrypt everything anyways and uploading it somewhere is going to change the safety of your data much.
it seems really clear to me that they are just too early on the curve of blu-ray to do what they did with the dvd. When the PS2 was release people were already buying dvds players for 200 dollars, making a the PS2 cheaper then getting a dvd player and another game console.
As it stands now people MIGHT be buying a blu-ray/hd-dvd when the ps3 comes out - might. Or maybe not. And that's the problem. Sony is just about a 18 months early, but still playing like it is the perfect timing of the PS2. Or, i suppose they could have tried taking a further $200 cut on the game system and forced people into buying a blu-ray player but considering the steep cut the already are taking, that would have been crazy.
no. But compare a broken leg to manic-dpressive isn't very meaningful. I don't remember the exact comparison but they were minimize any number of compulsive tendencies by saying that all you had to do was choose to not drink, that there wasn't anything that need to be "fixed" like a "real" disease.
My only point is that if you watch the show, which i love, you seem them salte things a certain way, no lies just ordering of arguments very carefully.
Oh, and stress DOES in part cause ulcers - people who are stressed have a weakened immune system.
I love the show and would not be surprised if many people do what you suggest the original poster did - dislike something that he holds dear.
However, I will say that after thinking a little more critically about the show that they often direct the discussion one way - very much like any magicians force. That is NOT to say they don't have massively valid points, just that what they say has to be examined carefully.
The example that comes to mind was in their show on alcoholism. They compared it to some physical disease and NOT a mental disease.

It drives me nut to see that, because i am certain that many people do it merely to increase the chance of being modded up. Hence why I have the following sig:
I mod everyone down who says "I'll get modded down for this." I hate to disappoint.
The only thing that drive me more nuts is when a post is so good I just CAN'T bring myself to mod them down.
homophobia n.
1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.
2. Behavior based on such a feeling.
Many people have contempt for something they find immoral, plus the quoted BSA statment sounds pretty comtemptios, hence homophobia is a valid definition. i wonder if they disallow people who are bi?
As for the BSA having to "buy into" anything, nope they don't and shouldn't be forced. That's fine.
They are still dicks for doing it.
And it is possible for someone with no legs to get up stairs, so who needs a ramp? A one-legged man can run a marathon, doesn't mean everyone should expect him to. i find this particularly funny that it comes after the Autism post.
The issue should never be as simple as "Can they ever do X?" the issue should be "How HARD is it for them to do X?"
And note what he was asking for - a little bit of extra information. This is what is too much to ask for, this is what is "inappropriate" to ask for?
Yes, people are responsible for themselves which is something that in American culture as a whole isn't very big on. Personally responsibility needs to be promoted. However, asking for some understanding and small changes to the environment is not unforgivable, patently absurd or abdicating all personal responsibility.
maybe you are making a very flat joke, if so, it just doesn't come across very well. If your not then you are almost certainly willfully ignoring all the things that AS people can not do or have a TREMENDOUSLY hard time doing.
A one-legged man might be able to run 20 miles at a good speed and save a pretty penny by only having to buy one-legged pants but not of that make him fortunate. Most people, even the ones who can't run 50 feet, would rather have 2 legs than save a bit of cash.
Personally, the way to explain it is not to. There should be a lot more evidence before it is truly given any credence. Briefly looking I saw only one name come up again and again: John Lorber. It maybe that is because he is the only one who has taken this seriously and there is a vast amount of research just waiting to be done. Seems a bit more likely that is just something slight odd going on and nothing more.
The alternative is that we have a kilo or 2 of flesh that is totally optional in some cases. That for some reason evolution has just kept that around because it is sometimes handy, like a massive appendix. Somehow, i doubt it. As carl sagan was found of saying, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
The issue would be from what "role". From the role a sociapath, yes, you can do whatever you want whenver you want. If that role is important to you, as a complete person, enjoy. I see no reason however why that prevents the rest of us from nailing your balls to the wall when you steal.
You, as most, have a poor grasp of what right means. The right thing for a polar bear is to eat baby seals, for a tree not so much. You get to do whatever you think is right for you but that also defines what you are. If you wish to be a soul-less businessman without any concern for other people, wonderful! If you wish to impose you narrowly-defined perspective of right & wrong on the world, go for it! Both will be the right thing to do, depending on what view you choose to take.
Perhaps you need a better analogy, one more concrete. I hold in my hand a toothpick. What is it? Is it for cleaning my teeth? Testing my cake to see if it is done? Resetting my router when I have flashed the wrong bios?
It is what I wish it to be. There is no one who can tell me it's function to me other than me. Whither or not there is a God, he is not on available to decree what it is I hold in my hand. Neither is there any authority to appeal to on any other subjective matter.
you know, I have no trouble with holding 2 separate-but-equal ideas in my head at the same time, most especially complicated idea. For example, I consider it totally reasonable that the GPP is write and so is yours. Watch:
First off, you and the GPP are talking about different things hence they can both be "right", which in this case is an overloaded term. Right for a businessman is a different domain than for clergy man. The role of business man is not considered with god's will, only with money. A role is not a person - it's an abstraction. A person is a business-clergy man, but the GPP was, as many people do, separating the roles. Each role has a unique solution, even to the same problem.
Second: On sufficiently complicated issue where the entire domain of the problem is unknowable, assumptions will have to be made about the unknown information. Different assumptions will be of the same arbitrary value leading to different answers. Neither is right in any absolute sense, as if there could be anything absolute, but by the same token neither is wrong. Different assumptions in this case is often termed "different angles". We do not any authority to appeal to that can tell us the answer to incomplete questions only people that wold like to be considered such.
You have just restated democarcy and "proven" it can't work. That people in mass can't make a difference and shouldn't even try.
Comparing a company's actions to people's everyday choices is just ridiculous.
So please tell me exactly what is the building blocks of a companys actions? people's everyday choices. As you said,a comapny is not a person - it is a group of poeple, all making everyday choices. So really,we are all powerless. Yay!
While embracing the ad hominem, appeal to ridicule, converse accident, special pleading, etc...
hey now! as has already been made clear: those are geeky things like logical thinking and he rejects it! Don't MAKE him stop this car and come back there!
absolutely perfect pitch sir.......The notion that you must love the topic is just off base. Sure, maybe it help but have to? naaaa
I would like to personal thank everyone that marked that as insightful.....

as i understand it there aren't even nipples, just pale-flesh colored lumps. BAN IT!!!
Really. Totally. 100% on the nose. The VCR was never much of a threat except in a very few cases.
