so resubmit it. things eventually get filtered out of the que, or deleted by one of the que viewers. you'll have a good chance of getting on the front page if you resubmit it on a slow day (sunday) or right before mozilla 1.1a goes final or whatever.
hm. buy an old ti-83 on ebay, and then an old grey link cable, download a terminal/ssh app for it, and then use the link cable to send modem signals to thecell phone. just about every major phone these days has a serial connector to attach it to a laptop. at least, that's what i use to telnet in. you'll have to look for an SSH client for the ti-series calculators, but i'm sure there's one out there. how well does SSH work @ 9600 bps?
well of COURSE any retail-ish company hates rumors.
that's one of the many reasons intel's itanium1 processor sold i think a grand total of 500 systems w/processor in it. the only reason anyone'd buy an itanium1 system was for the collector's value. rumors/plans of itanium2 came out and preorders for itanium1 dried up.
if you can't beat em', join em'. apple should market their hardware (As alot of hardcore appleites already do) in the fact that "this hardware should last you X years before you want an upgrade, and y years before you NEED an upgrade, according to fairly legitimate sources. instill trust and loyalty, rather than try to ward off fear and doubt.
just underclock the hell out of it. up to 50%. the article says it's about 2x as useful in general than a similarly equipped 1ghz G4. my 550 doesn't need a fan unless you're using more than about 60% of the cpu capabilities, and it's in an inch thick metal case (tibook - and yes, it uses a non laptop edition G4). if the GPUL (PLUG?) runs cooler already, then you might be able to get away with a processor + hella heatsink + heat activated fan for late night quake matches.
where do i sign up? what size logo exactly do you get? 4"x12" is what i'm thinking. i don't watch a whole lot of NASCAR, but that seems like the smallest logical size, situated somewhere around the exhaust tip near the front of the rear wheel.
in highschool last year our english teachers swore by the (often updated) MLA handbook (modern language association). maybe it's time they updated the MLA handbook & dictionaries. if they can add "doh" they can add "ur", "u" and "r". i don't personally use those abbreviated words, but hey, languages change, despite what the french government and english teachers would like to think. mexican spanish uses alot of simplified words from european spanish, as i understand it. this is just a natural evolution of language. you don't spell shoes "shooese" still, do you (citing a translation thing from my american history text book)? that's just stupid and a waste of your time/effort.
i don't think students should be penalized for being "cultured" seperately from the teachers. a better solution might be to introduce "classic" english, and a more vernacular (secular?) english that is more commonplace.
OS X is free-BSD (the name mach 4 kernel sounds familiar?) with a GUI that's alot less versitile than the X windows system (although it's pretty nifty and fairly streamlined. i like it, sans the lack of keyboardability that isn't as solid as i'd like (windows quality keybordability would be GREAT))
samba for OS X 10.2 is still in beta, and i think it is mostly geared twords being seen on a network, not recognizing windows (essentially) internal drives.
i *have* a windows box, but it's not usually turned on/accessed. the idea would be to have a windows compatible (aka windows formatted) firewire/usb 2.0 drive i can take to my friend's house and plug in and boot off of, or swap files with. go to lan parties and have my custom quake3 config file all set up, ect. and then also to back up the files that are on my mac format firewire drive (about 30 gigs worth)
i'm in the same boat, but with a mac & win98/2000 box.... anyone have any idea how well an OS X 10.2 box plays with a NTFS(+?) (i think) filesystem hard drive? i have yet to play w/the firewire drive and windows, as i don't want windows trying to format everything on my 100 gig drive. i'd rather not have to buy any "read mac formats on pc!" software...
hmm. interesting point. do you have any insight on as to why we're still @ a lowly 266/533 system bus, and not @ somthing like, say, system bus operates at the same speed as the core? i think it'd cause some slight inconsistancies with the PCI/AGP bus, but that's about it.
i was under the impression that it was the oil companies that did that. there was some movie about how the oil companies murdered the people who invented cold fusion from water or somthing. think it had keanu reeves in it, too.
probably the same reason why intel and amd haven't put out 5.2 ghz chips yet, despite the fact that their current archetechture supports that, or at least they're fully capable of matching the other, should one raise the bar to that point in technology. if you put out the peak of technology, then you lose alot of potential revenue, which in turn helps keep a steady flow of cash comming in, which looks good to investors, ect ect ect. expect to see 16x memory after 8x memory, each of which will take 2.5 years to "develop" and put into motherboards & whatnot.
basically, it's not today's technology that limits them, it's today's financial market setup that does.
personally i'd like to see external power supplies the norm in full ATX cases... moving the power supply to somewhere closer to the surge protector where the noise isn't nearly so loud would be GREAT. in theroy, with a saudering iron and spare wire, it's doable...
think somewhere between the size of the average VCR and the average DVD player.
i saw some of these @ quake con, and to tell the truth, i wouldn't mind one of these at all. i came this close to winning one there, and it would have made an excellent TV for my dorm room (with a cheap video capture card ($25)) and divx box.
it'd probably be smaller if some fucker decided that it was ok to put the power supply on the OUTSIDE of the box. if they can do it for laptops, why not regular boxes? aggggh...
i agree with you completely. BUT i think about things; using firewire/ieee1394, you can do essentially raid/striping of sorts. current firewire has a theroritical peak of 400 mb/s; next gen firewire should see 800 mb/s...
oh wait. that's megabits. we're talking megaBYTES. fuxor. sounds like we've got a decade or so before we have consumer-level storage options at this level. crazy.
btw, if i had mod points currently, i'd mod you up.
i was under the impression the viper had ~440 cu in for the old model, while the new 2003/4 has 500 cu in, so 7-7.7L engine. the ram has i think at best a 6L engine. i seriously doubt the viper has better emissions than the ram....that's what cars like the dodge neon are for....to balance out the average emissions levels for the product line.
if this is a school sponsored event, or hell, if it's an event of any type; let's remember it's an event for you to SOCIALIZE at. the only time a computer is used (well) for socializing is possibly a lan party and (more remotely) email/aim. not computer games. when going to speech tournaments (verbal fencing), the most enjoyable part of the whole tournament was the socializing factor. if you lock yourself in your hotel room and play computer games, you're not even getting half of the value of going to these events in the first place.
if anything, i'd MAKE him get a laptop with a sub-par video card in it just so he wouldn't play games on it. or maybe just a cheap PDA.
You can't sue Intel for selling a 1.4 GHz chip when in fact it runs at 1.4 GHz. It would be like suing Dodge because the V12 in a Viper can't pull the same amount of weight that the V10 in a Ram can, even though 12 is a higher number than 10 so you thought you should be able to pull more, it doesn't work that way.
is this one of those off the top of your head things that may or may not be true, or is this an actual fact? i would be under the impression that given the amount of torque at such a low RPM in both the viper (huge displacement)and ram (low gearing), that sans the fact that the viper has no trailer hitch, how the frame is constructed seems to be the only limiting factor in what the viper could tow weight wise. i could be wrong. not that i'd actually use my viper to tow anything;)
there's a form of lobbying, microsoft and others (oil companiaes) use it, it's called astro-turfing, aka artificial grass roots campaigns. they bring in a group of people they've selected, show them certian propaganda, and then supply them with a cubicle, phone, and phone number of the senator most crucial to changing/stopping somthing.
this sounds suspiciously like AMD is astro turfing (or a variation, involving filing lawsuit rather than calling your local congressman) some bad PR for intel to me...
they're not trying to sell mozilla though. They're giving it away for free. I could start up a local KKK cult chapter and name it microsoft, and i doubt they (M$) could do a whole lot about it. besides, what is the user going to confuse a red dinasour (which i don't believe is named mozilla - that's simply the name of the software the dino is a mascot for) with? if sony (i think they own the godzila....trademark?) had produced a christmas special w/red godzilla & green godzilla, they might have a leg (tail?) to stand on.
so resubmit it. things eventually get filtered out of the que, or deleted by one of the que viewers. you'll have a good chance of getting on the front page if you resubmit it on a slow day (sunday) or right before mozilla 1.1a goes final or whatever.

i guess the important question everyone wants to know is...
how much is "fairly cheap" sponsorship?

heh. i remember playing around with printshop 1 and 2 back on old apple II's back in 2nd and 3rd grade. fun stuff.
and my case will be cleverly constructed entirly of parachute pants...

Ooh! NAVY SEALS!
(bad clerks reference....sorry)
d00d - if mine was 15", i would be the most cocky bastard you ever met. and i'd be ready to kick the shit out of you :)
