    I used CDex to rip Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime on XP and it was successful even though the CD was so scratched it wouldn't play in a normal CD player. Two thumbs way way up!

    Best reason to not boycott them is the Bacon game: http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/. It's a great way to waste an afternoon waing on Iron Mountain to deliver tapes for a restore. And you don't even have to go to imdb unless you want to.

    Well, a quick look on everybody's favorite search engine reveals this http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/os2003/view/e _spkr/1627. It appears he works for Novell and is more of a manager than an hard-core programmer.

    Whether he's as big a blowhard as ESR remains to be seen.

    Don't forget to stock on on the DC-DC power convertors that 450's love to eat. We bought 6 or 7 completely stipped cases just to get the DC-DC convertors since it was cheaper that buying the convertors alone.

    I agree completely. If I got a call saying "Stuart, you can ride on the next Shuttle mission, but you have a 1 in 50 chance of dying on it.", my response would be "When do I leave?".

    Well, I know for a fact that this is a serious work built on PHP.

    As long as you understand the limitations of PHP, it can be a very powerful language.

    And Python is the stupidest language ever, white space as block delimiters? What happens when you cut and past from one windows that has tabs into another where the editor doesn't understand them?

    I agree completely. I remember back when OS/2 Warp came out and we used it to run Windows 3.1 software(some 3rd party display program that overlaid text from scanners on TIFF's of boilerplate documents) because the app was more stable on OS/2 than 3.1 at the time. We kept asking for an OS/2 native app but never got it. Eventually 3.11 came out and, poof, no more need for OS/2.

    No, what Linux need to become a prominent desktop OS is for a major VAR (Mike Dell, I'm talking to you) to start selling Linux-based desktops for a significant cost-savings over Windows XP.


    Also, an AOL client would be very nice as well.

    I've been running W2K on DSL since 1998 or so and I've never been "pwned". And I definitely know I'd know about it, I used to do abuse work for an ISP. But then, I don't use IE or M$ Office.

    Maybe or it could they simply wrote a good movie and had the sketchiest of ideas for 2 and 3. When 1 blew through the roof, the movie studio offered them ton o' cash to flesh out the other two and it shows.
