This has been going on for a long time. The current problem is that nobody thinks you work when you are at home. Here we have people who actually come in and put their head on their desk, but they are deemed good employees because they show up.
Basically it boils down to management. Usually it is deemed that you have to visually see the people to know they are working, otherwise you would have to know what they are working on to determine whether they are working effectively.
Well you are lucky that you aren't here. Here they installed the double pained reflective windows backwards, so light comes in and you can always see your reflection. But at least it is double pained glass.
Well if I was able to look at the code and find a security flaw, then be able to use an exploit against that flaw. Then that would be good enough for me to say that the code was complete enough.
This is why I think we should go to a straight tax. Each item correlated to some percentage of the tax. So everybody knows that , hey i'm spending 10% of my income on the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. Spending 2% to subsidize oil companies. Spending 5% to support financial institutions and another 7% to pay for past government expenses.
Oh you forgot about all the accountants who are on welfare.
I have never felt it appropriate that a company used FUD to promote their product.
I have never felt it appropriate that a company use it's market share to force other companies to sell their products.
I have never felt it appropriate that a company use it's tie-in to force people to by their product.
I have never felt it appropriate that a company rediculously undervalue it's product as a marketing ploy in our educational system.
I have never felt it appropriate that a company would use it's own money acting as a third party in a lawsuit to squelch it's competitors
None of that is illegal though and it probably shouldn't be made illegal. I just feel that it is immoral and unethical.
So while we may feel that it is of questionable moral or ethical boundaries from the perspective of the people working on finding these software flaws, it may seem to be a morally correct given the circumstance.
I just hope they post these flaws with meaningful content to help me protect my computer from these security issue.
The only issue I have with that is that, these companies can then patent the technology and drive up the cost of solar energy. Even though it's a loan, it's a low interest loan which is helping these companies get a 2B head start in research and marketing.
There are a lot of companies both big and small that could use a 2B dollar low interest loan to kickstart a new venture (especially in areas where there is a major monetary hurdle to compete) or expand current production. Any of which could help grease the economy.
2B could support 500 good programmers for 20 yrs without any incoming cash flow. Think of what the Open Source community could do with this to improve Samba , Open Office... or a few other critical computer business components.
But it seems that more than half of the security posts here are just advertisements. I think that putting them in 'Idle' is a helpful change. Maybe they should look at doing this more often with some of their articles or main posts.
If it really doesn't give us useful information other than " The sky is falling , the sky is falling...." and ends with buy this product, shouldn't it just be labeled advertisement.
The only chance of this being useful is if it creates a meaningful discussion. So I doubt it will have much use.
I worked within the Democratic party during the last presidential election.
During one part we had some where close to 500 issue reports which needed to be reviewed to determine whether it should be voted on or dropped. Issues were health care, internet, data security, energy, open source software....
Most of these reports contained nothing more than opinion. I reviewed a report that was interesting on energy distribution close to 100 pages, which had been presented in a 25 page slideshow. Some of the ideas were very interesting and compelling, but nothing was documented. Where did you find this number? How did you arrive at this figure?..... There was nothing to verify that any of these numbers were anything but random numbers. But most there took it as gospel. I asked for supporting documentation and was given copies of more papers by the same author or other papers which had nothing showing that they weren't pure gibberish.
I think I went through about 50 of these. Pretty much all were the same.
The best document out of all that I saw was something on 'George Bush should be charged for criminal activities' it was well documented with instances of supposed malfeasance and had references to supporting legal documents and laws. The presentation wasn't really bad either, but it just wasn't going to go anywhere with regards to the Democratic platform. If it wasn't so controversial, I would have asked that further documents put forward had at least 10% of the documentation and references before they were to be considered.
But basically after that I have not put any serious effort into the Democratic party, because I saw they had a number of major issues within the organization. By and large after putting out a lot of effort, I felt the whole process wasn't geared around influencing change within the goverment , but more so to make people feel they had a voice.
We have had 3 orders from Dell which were bad. Where computers needed to be sent back or repaired. In the last instance we received a system where the operating system had not been imaged on the system. We went round and round with them, they telling us that we could reimage the system ourselves , then finding out that we needed to send the system back because their recover disks would not work with the RAID configuration and they couldn't send someone out with replacement pre-imaged hard drives because the hard drives had not failed. One time we had a customer service rep say "Why don't you just boot up the computer and allow the technical people to fix your problem remotely".
They are currently on our do not buy list.
I'm really surprised at all the people who seem satisfied that Dell sent them replacement motherboards.
Oh geez, Dell is great, they sent us faulty equipment and gave us the parts so that we could rebuild the system so it would work. Why didn't you just buy parts yourselves and build your own computers in-house?
Well , each tile is controlled by a web of finite elements and neural networks , which compute growth rates based on sun, temp, nutrition and water, to determine the growth rates and size of crops.
Or maybe its just flash with a visual basic plugin controller.
I was wondering how many were going to get to this level of information.
Poor Elinor Mills, doesn't have anything to write about, so she takes copy from the marketing department of a company, summarizes it and calls it reporting.
She was just doing us a favor, making sure that we knew about an advertisement.
I am sickened to think that people believe this is reporting or worthwhile blogging.
There is no information until you have verified their claims or can allow somebody to verify the claims. SMobile scanned the database of program information and concluded that 20% of android apps should make us panic. Then Smobile told us not to worry , they have the solution and would let anyone have the solution if you bought their product. God forbid that in this whole circle of marketing they should actually pass along worthwhile information.
I would just like to note that 70% of iPhone apps don't have spyware included.
What are you talking about? This is the home of quantum metaphysics. Without them we wouldn't have known about the healing power of pyramids and rocks.
Just like a bunch of Californian wussies to get all worried about a little bit of cell phone radiation, when we have FREAKING UFO's flying around everywhere.
Did anybody tell them that when the wind blows East to West that dust from the Trinity site settles in the fog?
What vessels?
What kind?
how many vessels?
What are the vessels doing? spraying dispersants? Dispersants don't remove the oil from the water.
This spill stretches from Louisiana to Florida.
I don't think they have enough ships out there now doing what they need to be doing, which is removing the oil from the water, not hiding it under the water.
Yeah , but if you knew every computer was readily hackable, would you use that for exchanging information?
But I do love these guys that get all wound up claiming that such and such information offers proof of some conspiracy or guilt. I remember the security manager that worked for my dad's company came over one night. He was absolutely positive that the girls that were in our alley were runaways, because they had on slinky clothing and were smoking cigarettes at such an early age. Hell, she was our neighbor sneaking into the alley to smoke so her Mom wouldn't find out.
Now this is the way to go fishing in the south.
Just line up the fish trawlers on one side of the Gulf and start scooping them off of the surface.
Fishing industry gets a bonanza and we seal a leak.
Oh, heck. Just drop a 48 tons of Creole seasoning in before the blast with a few hundred tons of corn and potatoes and we're done. We can just skip all the fisheries and just wait for dinner to come ashore.
But, I'll have to remember this next time we go fishing.
"No, sir mister warden. We weren't fishing with dynamite, we were just trying to plug an oil leak in the bottom of the pond"

Yeah , but can you play games on it. Everyone knows that it will never make it into the desktop market unless you can play games on it.

I say the government gets an off switch , when we get an off switch.

So now we know what the developers at MS were doing when they developed IE7 and 8
Maybe y'all could to or at least provide an update.
If California was shutdown for a week. Who would notice?

So where is the other 931,000 barrels of oil?
We have at least 2 more months minimum of 1000 barrels of oil being dumped in the gulf.
here's a report on what scientist have been talking about for the past 2 weeks. Where did they think all this oil was going?
And if they think that microbes are going to eat up all this oil, well they haven't been reading the studies. Yes eventually it would, but it would be well after severe environmental damage.
What vessels?
What kind?

What are the vessels doing? spraying dispersants? Dispersants don't remove the oil from the water.

And they gave our Grand Imperial Wizard such a hard time for being a bigot.
Yeah , but if you knew every computer was readily hackable, would you use that for exchanging information?
