    Does this mean that even if you boot up from a CD (or format) the malware will still be there?

    I hear they also threw in some CAL's and Vista upgrade licenses as well... at least that's how it worked out at my office

    They probably had a download on BBC's website that had a EULA that laid out what was going on but of course NO ONE read it. So technically the user would have consented to being a part of this botnet.

    Of course the article doesn't mention the details, so who knows.

    Hell, UAC is good. It's better than sudo.

    I'm not quite sure I'm convinced. I saw a documentary on this a few months ago that made it quite clear that the UAC doesn't really offer much value and is very annoying at best. I don't remember what it was called but it ended with the following quote (maybe you can use it to track it down online?)

    "You are coming to a sad realization. Cancel or allow?"

    Ok, but that might backfire. Take this hypothetical situation as an example:

    Let's say a Nigerian prince recently became the beneficiary of a large sum of money. Now in order to access that money he needs someone to lend him some seed money in order to fund the process to facilitate the release of said money. In return for the help, he promises to reward the lender generously.

    If he can't reach you with his urgent message YOU will be the one losing out!

    I'm running Liberum as well, we have 350+ users that we support. Works decently. Not very easy to make modifications without rewriting the whole thing though. We only get 10-15 tickets per day.

    I couldn't find anything else that was FOSS that authenticated with Windows AD.
