I NEVER test senior people. My favorite type of interview is to take them out to lunch and then present them with some sort of large problem we are working on and pick their brains about a solution.
This accomplishes many things: if I am lucky I didn't waste my time at lunch and I might even learn something. The interviewee isn't treated like a child and hopefully enjoyed the interview, possibly already making a contribution to their new employer. I also have a good summary of their communication skills and an idea if I would like to work with them.
You have to be kidding me... a utility? Youtube is a unregulated for-profit website that depends on advertiser revenue.... what obligation do they have to carry any kind of content?
That probably would have happened if nycl had attacked the points of the ruling. Instead he attacked Rowling, which ruined a potentially constructive discussion.
Actually the first thing that popped in my mind was 'why don't they just buy AMD' AMD has really good technology but extremely poor financials... the Chinese could turn them around.
You are assuming that the neutrino flux from the sun is constant. I don't think it is unreasonable to think that this may have some effect on carbon 14 dating.
To her benefit it should be noted that these SSNs really don't hurt anyone, since they are very public figures. I think a 15 year old cracker would have a hard time impersonating Colin Powell.
I think you are right, but for the wrong reasons. The same things applies to voice recognition, it will never replace keyboards in the office. How fatiguing and tedious would it be to talk to your computer all day? Imagine how noisy the office would be. Likewise, how about using a touchscreen all day? Your arm would feel like it was ready to fall off. Like it or not, a mouse takes little physical effort and lends itself to the sitting position.
This is a departmental/procedural change. They are not changing the law or the interpretation of the constitution, the FBI has no authority to do so.
It means they can open a case file on you without any good reason. How does this defeat the constitution? AFAIKT the FBI still has to apply for warrants to wiretap.
When I was a kid I had a book written ~ 1910 called 'The Boy Electrician' that had a something very similar included as a project. It also had an x-ray machine with complete instructions. The good old days! http://www.lindsaybks.com/bks/boyelec/index.html
I guess the last 10 years where I have put food on my table and deployed 10s of applications that are used by thousands of people are really a loss. Thanks for clearing that up.

Even though I agree that the article you posted was a little too opinionated, I am glad you contribute to /.
It's more fun than arguing about politics ;)
Tardigrades have been found at the highest elevations and in the deepest ocean trenches.... I don't think the facts fit your argument.
Is it really illegal to do this? Can private parties create a 'file' about 'people of interest' on their own?
I am just questioning the assumption that it is illegal for the government to aggregate public data in a way of their choosing.
OOPS! looking at the wrong number! No irony found, carry on ;)
That's rather ironic when your UID is over 24 million!
They can't meet California's particlate standards so the rest of the country misses out :(

We don't know that the neutrino flux is constant. Neutrinos are notoriously hard to detect and measure.

Is anyone able to verify this? I have never heard about this before, and since I grew up in NJ we heard a lot of Bell Labs anecdotes.
Many won't like to admit this but the Ma Bell monopoly is what enabled bell labs to dump so much money into basic research.

All througout the comments here everyone has assumed that the password is stored as plaintext or (supposed to be) stored as a hash.
Isn't it possible that they are using a private key to encrypt the passwords?

I hate to point out the obvious, but where in TFA does it say the FBI can wiretap without a warrant?

You can poke holes in any programming environment, it doesn't make it a 'losing strategy'.
You forgot slashdot.....

Take your relativism somewhere else. It does not belong in sports.
