    The last CNC machine we got was made in....China. Its pretty good too. The one before that was German, but all the motors were made in China. The memory in my computer was made in... china, even the German branded projector I have was made in china (the TI DLP is probably the only not made in china). The last lot of big equipment that they got for the ports from my home country was made in china and japan. The list goes on.

    Most of whats made in China may be made on behalf of a non Chinese company, buts its still made in China.

    We will also not be protected from solar radiation as much. Special shelters will have to be constructed and skin cancers will go WAY up.

    Your still using movies for facts. There is 10 metric tons of atmosphere over every square meter of this planet at sea level. The solar winds, even with a CME will not increase radiation levels down here at all, cus they just don't have the energy. Cosmic rays have the energy to produce showers of secondary particles that can get to sea level.

    Sats are more effected with cosmic rays and while long term exposer to the solar wind will tend to reduce the life of many (and for some it will make little difference at all, and some still are outside anyway), a large CME are still bad news even inside a magnetosphere.

    Don't get your science from the movies. It makes you look like a total idiot. Apart from "northern/southern" lights everywhere, and a *few* satellites that are extra sensitive. It will affect close to nothing. Anything that was in the van allen belts will experience even *less* radiation than normal.

    According to the article others have cracked the encryption but haven't published.

    Its been published alright, if you know where to look. This is bizarre cus it really is common knowledge--well it is to anyone with any interest in decrypting cell phone calls.

    Figure $3-5000 for a visual-only license, give or take a grand or so. Definitely not the same as getting a car license.

    Still cheaper than a drivers license in some EU countries!

    what are you talking about? I was just through some airports in the UK recently and was allowed to take 3 bags of shopping through, my bag of cloths and a laptop (I had no check in stuff ). There were bins everywhere....

    Even in my home network with only 4 machines I use DNS. moocow, the cowlaptop and eatingcows. Easy to remember and spell, and i run both ip6 and ip4.

    In most of Europe you are legally allowed to "jail brake" phones, because otherwise its "anticompetitive". The manufacture etc cannot back out of warranty either. Here in Austria, the only people i know with contracts are the people with iPhones, and while they are popular, they are still a minority.

    Cars from 40 years ago did sux. They used more fuel to do less with bad performance and had little in terms of safety fetures. And don't get me started about cell phones from 40 years ago...

    Lake Taupo in NZ is also a volcano crater and is a similar size (eye balling in google maps) to lake Yellowstone. It did have a massive explosion but not at the super volcano level like Yellowstone (or so geologist think).

    However there is considerable speculation on just what caused the mass extinction events. Yellowstone is a suggested cause, but is not really universally accepted.

    I have always wondered about that. Why do i need Linux to grow and reach more people? What do i benefit from that. Linux does what i need now and there is an ample community to help and extend various programs and tools to keep it that way. I don't need it to be "popular".

    So I do break the ToS by giving a fake DOB when i Joined FB a while back. I just randomly clicked month and day, and made sure i was older than 18. Unfortunately i picked the same day as my daughter.

    But thats all history now, i deleted my account properly. Now i get emails from programmer friends wanting me to join these "professional networks" type sites.

    A non-technically-minded person will never want to learn how to use a computer.

    At which point any documentation is pointless. I am serious. A desktop application has failed for basic users when the basic user needs documentation at all. And lets face facts, they won't read it anyway.

    I was about to say the same thing. I also only bother with security updates that i need. in the last 2 years, that was 1 update. (I do upgrade).
