  2. Have you thought some of those programs (vi, emacs) are obsolete today? In one interview I had a manager list all the CLI commands I use in Modelsim. Fortunately I had a good memory, but after I listed several routine commands I said:

That's a bit misleading. If I included benefits into my engineer salary, I could claim $200,000 a year.... which goes back to the main point: Teachers are underpaid (75,000 less) compared to other professions with Bachelor degrees.

I would definitely not trade that for shoveling sludge.

The driver CAN charge you extra if there's a "hole" in the Uber app's design. When I checked my app the next day, it said the Driver took me from Garden Grove to Santa Ana, and then from Santa Ana to Pasadena.

The first part was a legitimate trip. The second part was the driver illegally extending the trip beyond its original destination, and charging me for it ($120 extra).

    - Now that was 2015... perhaps this flaw has been closed, but it definitely existed back then, and since Uber refused to refund me, I refused to continue my business with them.

  19. I suspect it's actually the politicians who are more concerned. Social security and other elderly-welfare programs rely on a young working class to keep providing money.

But with fewer youngsters being born & getting jobs, that means less money to give the elders. Some politicians, like those in Japan, have started handing money to couples if they have 2nd or 3rd children. (Like an inverse of China's one-baby policy.)
