How long did it take you to remove your hands from their throat?
I wish. I wasn't even there -- I was out to lunch, and only got the story from colleagues who witnessed it after I came back and wondered who the hell put a dent in my laptop. And the culprit was a leading member of our company's Board of Directors who happened to be walking past my desk at the time.
FWIW, somebody picked up my MacBook to see how heavy it was, and managed to drop it off the desk. Roughly 3 feet. Still works fine, though there is a hefty dent in corner of the metal body that impacted the floor.
I probably just got lucky on this, though; I don't think the MacBook is any more rugged than a regular laptop.
THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USA TODAY - IT IS FOR REAL
Subject: PLEEEEEEASE READ!!!! it was on the news!
To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages, But this is from my good friend Pearlas Sandborn and she really is an attorney.
If she says that this will work - It will work. After all, What have you got to lose? SORRY EVERYBODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I'm an attorney, And I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.
Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later. Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it ( If you are a Microsoft Windows user) For a two weeks time period.
For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.
I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and withindays, I receive a check for $24,800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can affoard this, Bill gates is the man.
It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10,000.00. We're not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a little something for our time. My brother's girlfriend got in on this a few months ago. When i went to visit him for the Baylor/UT game. She showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and was stamped "Paid in full"
Like i said before, I know the law, and this is for real.
Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.
What about INSTEON? If you have a Mac, you can use Indigo to manage it -- even from an iPhone.
I've also heard about Control4 -- and don't forget X10, even though I can't tell if their home page is advertising porn or home automation products. I'll let you automate my systems, baby!
Maybe they're going to start giving away Mac OS X or iPhones for "free" -- if you allow advertising? It's the NetZero approach to OS distribution!
To turn off the ads, you just have to sign up for MobileMe at $99/year. That's all! Small price to pay to bask unimpeded in the Shekinah Glory of Macintosh. (Shekinatosh?)
You'd be surprised how many people don't want, don't need, or can't afford an iPhone. It's a nice device, but it doesn't cater to the entire market - not even close.
Apple knows this. Their original stated goal was 10% market penetration. According to somereports, they achieved that in first two quarters of this year (worldwide, not just U.S.). (They apparently hit their 2008 target two months early.)
They are still a success, businesswise, as long as they are hitting their targets. Apple is probably looking to do in cell phones what they do in computers: maintain a profitable edge in the mid-to-high-end markets -- even if staying a lot smaller than the other players -- and leave the low-end, lower-margin market to competitors.
Are you suggesting Apple does NOT take patents seriously? They wouldn't flip off Nokia unless they felt secure doing so. Sometimes it seems like Apple's legal team is second in size only to its marketing team.
Maybe Apple thinks the patents won't stand up in court. Just because 40 other companies licensed them from Nokia, doesn't mean those other companies actually considered taking on Nokia. Are those other companies as big and brash as Apple? Apple has an estimated market cap of ~$180 billion, while Nokia has ~$50 billion.
Apple offers a public SDK to allow other music players to work nicely with iTunes. But Palm wants to hack to emulate an iPod instead of using the nice APIs like everybody else. That's Palm's fault, not Apple's.
It's easy to upgrade RAM on an iMac: Apple tells you how.
Upgrading a hard drive is a bit more difficult, agreed, but we rely heavily on external drives and daily backups, so it's less of an issue. For the money you save on a fleet of iMacs versus Mac Pros, you could buy a few spare iMacs.
I'm looking at a desktop refresh in the next 18 months for our art people, and those are the ones that will need expandable machines. A headless desktop priced less than or even similar to an iMac would be a no brainer. Instead, I'm stuck looking at the cost of Mac Pros, which have actually gone up in price over the past year with the introduction of the Nehalem processors. And, unfortunately, we'll buy them because our art directors are exactly the kind of customers that Apple targets.
Quite seriously, you should consider getting them iMacs instead of Mac Pros, then find others who need new screens. Seriously. I just replaced several G5 towers with new iMacs, and the folks got new and slightly larger screens in the process. They were thrilled.
Dual ethernet is pretty much a standard feature for a small office server, lets you set up firewalls, remote access and other public-side facing services.
I'd rather have a dedicated firewall than one which is also used for data storage, personally.
Agreed -- except, it's no different than when using a Blackberry as a phone. Big clunky rectangular thing by your face. Better than the Talking Taco that was the Nokia N-Gage.
Even better, you will soon be able to custom-engrave your fruit. Popular choices:
etc.
I wasn't saying we should just bend over and take it. I was saying that revolution would not solve the problem of corruption. That's a human failing.
Right, because the general populace has no corruption in it.
Name one revolution that did not return the country to a corrupt form of government.
How long did it take you to remove your hands from their throat?

C'mon, you've never gotten this little gem?

I love that clip. "You're in a chair. IN THE SKY!"
You've experienced an ID 10-T error.

That's pure zealot Apple fanboy logic right there. Apple's right and everyone else in the world is just wrong and naive.
Nope. Never said anything about Apple being right. Just putting forth a thought about their motives.
Admittedly, I'm typing this on a Mac right now, but there are three PCs (two Dells and a custom-built tower) humming along over here....

.stripper(): slowly removes the HTML elements of your page, revealing something naughty underneath.
.poleDance(): automatically adds a vertical navigation bar to your site, then teases you when you want to click on something
.Titillate(): a replacement for .Console(), to make sure the programmer is, um, "properly aware" of script feedback

What kind of server has audio jacks, mini dvi ports, fire wire ports, and mini display ports?
One that does light duty as a file/print/email server while also connected to a TV/audio system for PVR purposes?
I prefer a server I can't accidentally sweep off the desk.
You could always mount it to something.
For non-UK folks, "Nooky" is cheeky old fashioned slang for sex
It is here in the U.S., as well., though I thought it was spelled "nookie"...
What good to a nook is a hook cook book?
I was just thinking the same thing.
Whoopi, is that you?
