I'm jumping ship. Slashdot is a good time waster, but a bit redundant IMO (anything major I'll hear about, anything that interests me I can go elsewhere to read about, like Digg). It's shit like this that keeps on happening over and over with no care taken. I have better things to do with my time.
So windows would run fine with bad RAM? As for the old HD is could have been one of those obscure fixes for bad hardware in the kernel although those are usually enabled for any big distro. It's also possible you hit a bad block on the drive which can make the system seem non-responsive. If other terminals did not respond that's more worrisome.
Indeed, I see three articles on the front page linking to rojakpot and two of them are unattributed submissions. I smell a rat. Slashdot is inching forward to being blacklisted at my place.
FLAC can be converted into whatever format the user wants. Considering it's speech you should get around 50% compression from the wavs. Of course not everybody will want to download that so put it in mp3 too. I can't think of anything that plays Ogg and not mp3. Speex is not that widespread at this point, so if anybody really wants it they can convert from FLAC. And that's the beauty of FLAC too. Some new format gets popular you can convert it into that too.
I know of others who do that. I ended up voting yes on three. One was the abortion stuff (I understood that quite well), one was local, and the other I tried to go with the anti-corporate choice. The reason I don't automatically vote no is because of ones like the abortion one (prop 73?).
Not only that, but the prop system is designed to fail. I just voted (absentee naturally). We get a ballot, instructions, and booklet about the props. Looking at the ballot you have no idea if the proposal is good or not. There just isn't enough space to cover the points of the prop. So you look in the booklet... two hours of reading the booklet later I'm not even sure what the fuck I would want! It basically amounts to trying to parse some terribly terse budgetary stuff I don't comprehend or trying to decide which side is lying less!!! For those who come home from a full day of work to try and make their way though a bunch of lies, half-truths, careful omittances and needlessly complex bullshit this is no easy task. You can't vote if you're misinformed, and there is no easy way to get informed about some of these issues.
Wouldn't part of the problem come from the massive cost associated with installing new lines? More people / stuff to displace. Even so you'd think the rates would be cheaper.
I've found that by using a snap swivel (used in fishing) and a split ring those old chips can make decent key rings. Especially handy if you leave a key with relatives; they are sure to know what it goes to.
When your mind is constantly looking for things that could be deviant you'll find them everywhere. Too bad light pollution blocks out most of the stars or they would have the stars aligning into sexually deviant positions too.
If you're familiar with the nature of hypocrisy then the sickness of the vocal family value types is hardly in question.
Ok, that would be why I scratched if off the list. Since this is just for a local network anything under 5 mbps would work, hence transcoding would be a useless step for my purposes.
I haven't looked at icecast for a while but when I was looking to see what would stream flac, nothing came right out and said it. Nice to know Icecast will.
Wow! Talk about response:D I did see something on the mailing list when I searched, but have not been back to the machine in quite a while. Nice to know as I wanted to keep my collection in FLAC. Thanks.
I've been wondering if this can do it. I think it would work by adding the right mime types, but I never got it working and haven't messed with it for almost a year.
O, I'm well aware about jolting the machine to change to path of the ball, hold the ball in the paddle, etc. But how much would it cost me to learn? At 3 balls for 50 cents gambling would indeed be cheaper for me. I'd like a table but that's an unrealistic goal at this point.
It's the first pinball game I can claim addiction too. Found it camping in Duluth and pumped a lot of quarters into it. Now I have to play any I see. Good times indeed.

Wouldn't an old notebook, sans fans, work perfectly for this?

It's all fine, I just find it funny the site even offers subscriptions when simple spellcheck or proofing is beyond the staff.
WTF is a hampster?
Don't forget Countess either ;) Of course I had to find out about them through non-industry sources.
Ok, so distros that don't ship with mp3 support. I was speaking more about physical DAPs and the such.

Permafrost causes more pollution than automobiles do.

I have been irrevocably damaged by seeing the words nipples, penises, labia, and pubic hair. I will be suing /. and Jack Thompson.
It very well might stay free since some of the stories seem to be little more than links to other whores who get banner revenue.
This will only be used to solve crimes, like who left semen on the bench press.
