It is not just the weight of the snow I would worry about. Most northern blizzards average around 20 - 30 inches of snow. Combine that with the high winds and barometric pressure drops. Now you are looking at the possibility of the snow fall coming to rest on 1 large part of the dome with a smaller part (possibly half? ) being left relatively clear. What are the chances that the internal pressure increase causes the dome to be "off balance" of sorts. Could you get a blow out on the side opposite the snow? Could the higher wind and weight combination cause a deformation of the dome?
Personally, I have seen snowfall over 50 inches in a single night. I would much prefer mother nature handle it then rely on some man made, air filled bubble over my head. Give it some sturdy supports and I might consider it.
I am originally from Syracuse but living in the State of the Retired. The last time I went back north and drove through that area, I was just about to run the light when I realized it was inverted. The end result could have had a bad outcome due to me not paying full attention.
If you do drive through that area, keep it in the back of your mind. You may find yourself in my position thinks the bottom light is lit, I can continue moving forward. The look of shock on that lady's face was priceless. Not because I almost ran the light, but because I was from Florida and under the age of 80.
Les paul was a legend who caused so many to pick up and play a guitar for the first time. For good or bad, his playing had that effect on people. A true loss for the music industry. He will be greatly missed.
A game such as Road Rash in an updated format may not be such a bad idea. Update it to the a style of world similar to GTA. You walk around and interact with other players to set up races. You can shop for gear, bikes, clothing and what not at various stores through out the city. And to add more enjoyment, you have the ability to mug NPCs or just throw a beat down on the cry baby who can not handle losing the race. I can see a fair amount of playability in that. Mainly the last part of throwing a beat on the cry baby.
...but whatever you do, please DON'T DOWNLOAD THEM! Unless of course you are a developer or take great pleasure in incomplete, unpredictable, and potentially crashing software.
Nothing new here. I get the same thing on Windows. Browser of choice does not matter.
By no means nothing against Windows. But it was the absolute first thing that came to mind when I read it.
I always went with a Library when describing the components.

This has worked for the past 12 years. Even on my 79 year old mother in law.
I was watching the morning news while drinking some hot coffee and almost had to sue myself. A "Doctor", qualified to discuss topics in and of the medical field, gave the following reason as to why this "Swine Flu" is so bad....
"We know this flu to be different because the common flu typically ends in March and this one is just arriving."
That was all the news crew decided to broadcast. Nothing about the variants of H1N1, H2N1 or even NBE1. Why not at least give an honest attempt at news instead of garbage. And people ask me why I hate watching the news and reading the paper.
For that to work properly, you would also have to know how many drinks one consumed over what period of time. That is one of the reasonings behind the LD50 rule. If the test subject blows a set number or above, they take a ride to the hospital due to not knowing if the number is still going up or if it is on the way down.
I think that what it actually means is that a bunch of people who supposedly violated some arbitrary limit on the limit of a specific substance in their bloodstream might have their lives un-ruined.
Well, I for one would prefer that somebody go through the system over what is about to happen. This sets a foundation for all other cases. This will be the new out for anyone who gets arrested for DUI. You get arrested and blow a.550 (should be dead but let's overlook that)and you attorney says "I want source code". It is now either give it up or go free. Coming from a state where the defense will try any and every trick, any normal the more obsurd the better it works, to get a client off the hook, I am not looking forward to giving them an easy out. Our system may not be perfect but hey, it is a far cry better then no system.
Is this going to matter for the people who were obviously intoxicated? No. This is going to matter for the people who passed a field sobriety test, didn't appear to be intoxicated, but admitted to having a beer that night and were required to take a breathalyser.
Wrong. This will matter for ALL cases. By getting the Breath Test results tossed, you now lose the proof of Alcoholic Beverages being involved. Basically, no breath test = no proof of intoxication unless a blood or urine sample was taken. No blood or urine sample = no proof of drug related issues. Case dismissed unless somebody is rather lucky.
...did you use mouthwash before heading out tonight?
They had better have been stopped withing 90 seconds of that usage. The residual ethanol in the mouth would have evaporated. Just like if you burp up something while taking the breath test, the instrument will detect the spike in Ethanol and let you know it was an invalid sample.
As for how to prevent DUIs in the first place, you have some valid suggestions but a lot would change if more responsibility was placed on the establishments who serve the drinks. They have a moral obligation to cut you off after your 15th beer. But screw morals, 1 more $5 beer won't hurt anyone.
From my brief experience with Vista and then seeing this, I am not sure they are really changing anything. Take a look at the new "Mojave" advertising campaign. They rename the product, display a few stable elements of the OS, and fool few sheeple into thinking it is new. Then we have screen captures of "Windows 7" which look amazingly similar to Vista. Yes, the GUI is one of the last things developed but why not use something less memory intensive if you are still in the core development areas? Why not use just a basic (think Win98)and functional GUI until you are sure the thing runs like it should? This leaves me wondering where I have seen this before... oh yeah, WindowsME. You know. The one where MicroSoft took one thing, repackaged it, made a few "improvements", and basically created some abomination that was seldom seen as an improvement of it's predecessor. I can't help but get this strange feeling that Windows 7 is nothing but Vista 1.2.
Sigh. No matter how much you try to repackage and redesign a turd, it will still be a piece of shit when you're done.
The tree takes out your internet access? I am on Comcast with packet filtering and bandwidth restrictions. That tree is a blessing you insensetive clod!
Possibly the most annoying software ever made was that which was created to send spam. If the spammers had to spam the keys to produce the spam, they might be tempted to spam us less. I would like to see a break down of the age ranges for those who are buying the Macs. I have multiple computers in my home of both the PC and Mac varieties. I purchased a $1500 iMac a couple years ago just to experiment with a Mac. My wife became more comfortable using that then the lap top she was using and we wound up buying her her own. Interestingly enough, my daughter still prefers her PC. My mother-in-law (age 75)was using a basic HP lap top but has since switched to an iMac due to being a self-contained unit. Once the other "older" family members played with it, they began purchasing them. It is now a very common scenerio to find all of the 50+ year olds in my family using Macs for email and iChat instead of PCs and phones. This is either due to comfort with the system, the general appearance, or just because they plug in 1 power cord and go with it. Each one of them could easily get by with a cheaper, yet still functional enough, Windows based PC.
If going by personal observations, I will wager a guess that the larger part of the 66% is made up of people who are at mid to upper age ranges.
Hello Earthlings, my name Zorbo, I'm from the planet sh388wg32 in what you call the Andromeda galaxy and I think the time has come to reveal ourselves to you. The reason I am contacting you now is that we have some Good News for you creatures, the all powerful creator of everything (Zippin52, praise be His name) has a plan for you and everyone you know!!! Can I take a little of your time to explain why we're all imperfect and need saving in His forgiveness??! And in the next email, we will directed on where to send the $5,000 so that we can claim our 43,000,000,000 drizlibits due to Zorbo's uncle passing away and leaving the currency tied up in a trust fund.
I normally pull the role of tech support for the family and found a way that was quite effective for me. My mother-in-law bought her first lap top and asked me to set it up. I configured a nice remote desk top so I could handle the minor issues with out making the trip to her house once a week. Since she nothing of this or even had a clue as to how it worked, I began doing random things such as creating text files on her desk top. These would include things like her address and phone number. When she asked about them, I informed her just how important it was to make sure she stayed secure and that she could be infected with a virus, trojan, or other nasty program. She brought the computer to the house and I deleted the files and ran a virus scan which, of course, turned up clean. This happened twice.
She has since invested in a higher quality router with firewall, uses anti-virus and spayware regularly, and is considerably more cautious with her email. Her experience has also led her to spread the word through the family about what happened. Since this began, I would estimate that the family has increased thier awareness and protective measures by 300%. One advantage, none of the family outside of myself were/are experienced with computers but they are slowly coming along.
I am on my second 360. my first was one of the original consoles purchased on day of release. That one is sitting in my closet due a failed DVD drive which finally gave out around October 2007. Due to being out of warrenty and the possiblity of more future failures, I went ahead and purchased a 360 Arcade and moved my HD/Wireless over to the new systems.
The new is set up the exact same as the old. It sits on top of the entertainment center fully exposed to the ambient air of the room. I set both in the horizontal position and not standing vertical. Both of my 360s see/seen usage of anywhere from as little as 4 or 5 hours up to 40 plus hours a week pending how much the kid plays. New game releases tend to increase the play time the most.
A friend purchased one on release day and upgraded to the 360 Elite. Neither of those have seen the first problem as of the time of this posting. But I do think I have cursed us both by posting this.
I wonder if this was done in the various MMORPGs that we hear about every day. The poll taker logs in with his/her favorite character and starts asking players "Are you really a female?". Once the response of "Yes. Can I have your sword?" or "Absolutely, go any spare items or gold?" is attained, a mark goes into the Female Internet User column. If only they had proof that these are actually female players is a poll that would be more interesting.
When it comes to piracy, they are being squeezed by illegal file sharing. Collectively, this squeeze has led to a lower standard of living for artists and lower profile workers in the content industry.
These 2 lines cause me to start thinking. It is not piracy that is causing a so called "lower standard of living" but multiple factors combined, if anything at all. How many popular singers and bands are there in this world that have complained because the house he/she has purchased only cost 2.4 million instead of 3.4? How many of the well actors and actresses have complained because of the same reasons? I personally do not see how any person can use a "lower standard of living" as an excuse when they are making literally millions off 1 film and the like. I do agree that the music side has it worse off then then the film due to record companies taking more then they deserve at times. I do not know the actual numbers but there have been disputes in the past over things of this nature. But when it comes to films, how can this even be brought up except for the reason of greed. A prime example of this would be the new MI3 movie with Cruise. It was stated on one of those late night shows that the film cost approx $150 million U.S. and Cruise made approx $75 million U.S. I do not know about the rest of you but I honestly doubt that the difference between $7.5 million and $75 milion will lower anyone's standard of living to the point they would have to complain.
I believe that as long as we live in a world were people have the ability and the means to design, create, and use things such as computers and digital video recorders, this problem will never go away. Maybe it is time for the music/film industry to come up with a solution that will allow them to continue to make profit while not taking away from the people they expect to get money from?
In your post you spoke of Deep Lung Air and how the testing of it can not accurately show the variable characteristics that could affect the blood alcohol content. Your are 100% correct. The Breath Alchol Testing instrument is just that. Breath. It can in no way tell you a person's blood alcohol level. The Breath Test is designed to use 3 specific light frequencies to detect 3 things during the testing phase. The primary frequency detects neither ethyl alcohol or acetone in the subject's body and is used for a zero reference point. The second detects both ethyl alchol and acetone. The third is just ethyl alcohol. When a breath sample is entered, the air is collected in a tube called the sample chamber where the light passes through the air and then into the filters. The amount of light passing through will be absorbed by the ethyl alcohol and acetone and then calculated. If the EA and Acetone read the same, the difference with the aero point is calculated and used for the breath reading. If the acetone and EA are different, the test is kicked out stating the fact. This could imply a medical problem such as a diabetic issue. Two samples are required and third is needed if those 2 are not with in a specified range.
As for testing of the instrument, this is done by a State department and a State certified person who is local with the instrument. The controlling agency has to perform an inspection consisting of multiple simulated tests each month with the State performing a more intensive test once per year. If the instrument fails any of the tests, it is taken out of service and sent to a certified repair facility. They normally make the repairs and ensure proper calibrations with in the state guide lines before it is returned to the department. Once back on site, the instrument is tested by the state and then the local agency prior to being put back into service.
Working with these devices on a regular basis I can say that they perform as they are desrcibed to. But even with that said, there are certain changes to the laws regarding DUIs that must be made. This goes from the initial traffic stop all the way through the final court process if it goes that far. Currently, a police officer can suspect you of DUI for simply taking your car from one road deviding line to the other and back again. The breath test is being checked by an instrument that nobody actualy knows how acurate the controlling software is outside of those who have access to the code. The same goes for a blood test and the method used to determine a result. License hearings are more commonly used as a free deposition by defense attornies while the controlling officers over look most things which they should put a stop to. (That is normally done locally, it may be different in your area.) The court proceedings can be a joke at times but fair at others.
Many times, the trials are nothing but a game of words where one side tries to get the other to say something out of context or confuse them causing a wrong statement to be made. Evidence such as the video tape and breath test results are disputed as well and normally in ways not presented in other trials up to that point. In order for this system to be as flawless and as fair as we can make it, changes have to be made as whole.
1. A slight degree of leway has to be given when a field sobriety test is performed. There is no way they accurately tell is a person is impaired. They can only add to or remove the feeling that the subject in question is indeed impaired prior to performing the actual test deemed required by the state or local governments.
2. The breath test instrument system needs changes to ensure is validity as well. The software should be inspected by multiple third party companies or persons to ensure that it is correct and performs as it should. As for being open source I can not say yes or no. If the third parties are required to, they can have a NDA in place to ensure that a trade secret, so to speak, is not disclosed to other companies. The results can made p
