Well. From the way I read that line it is simple. HP did not make the battery. They make the notebook itself and have an outisde source do the battery. They also state that the battery issue will not effect the notebook which will still run under power from the cord. I see nothing wrong with them standing behind the notebooks they make. I am glad they are willing to recall the batteries. I am just puzzled why the manufacturing company is not posting anything about the problem and directing owners to HP.
I think that the AI in games is getting great. A prime example would be BF2. I went online to play it and found that even though the AI players are easier to kill while online, they are much more life like with the insults and complaints.
By using my minimal intelligence, I have calculated that the $50,000 cost (50k x $1) would be roughly $30,000 less then a single pirated copy in the US and about $49,999.78 more then the actual value of the 50k copies themselves. Talk about a price mark up!
(no offense to the windows users, it was a poor attempt at being funny)
So, what your saying is that your randomly generated music would be the same as the randomly generated garbage being spewed out by the music industry? I honestly do not know if I would be brave enough to admit I created that crap first.
Windows XP Euro makes a lot of sense if you think about it. When it comes to M$, isn't it all about the all mighty dollar/euro/peso/insert_currency_here ?
I personally started working with computers in school some years ago using the old number lines which I can not remember to save my life. Then came the games which got me more involved and interested in learning as much as I could.
Once my child was old enough to start showing interest, I let her watch me do things such as upgrades and the like as well as mess around with various programs. At the point where comprehension was available, she began working with various educational programs that taught just about everything she was going through in school. This eventually progressed to the point where she built (with a little guidance) her own computer from parts at the age of 12 and is still trying to learn more. She is now comfortably using Linux (Mandrake) for her school functions such as research and reports.
Getting a child involved with computers is pretty much a must in todays world. The only problem will be determining what to start them on and when. I would suggest using some of the basic educational programs to start. Nothing real flashy or difficult, just something to guage how well they take to the keyboard and what keeps them interested. A couple my kid worked with were http://www.cluefinders.com/ and http://www.broderbund.com/. I am not saying these will help all children but they are a couple ideas to start if the child is the grade school age. As for teaching them how to troubleshoot/repair/build/program.... that is anyone's guess.
Well, considering the island I live on here in Florida and it's erosion rate I think your wrong. During a moderate storm (non hurricane) with surf ranging anywhere around 10 feet in height, we can lose upwards of 3 feet from our coastline. This occurs all along the Florida Coast. So, with that fact in hand, I don't think Florida will protect you at all. We will just slow it down a tad while the overly large wave laughs at the swamp covered condo infested speedbump you have at the end of your drive way.
Does anyone know of a location to se what this thing looks like? I am curious due to various regulations about "scooters". For example, if this was a moped style scooter it would have a quite different effect then if it was one of those "little metal plates with 2 wheels a motor and handle bars" like you buy at your area department store for you kids. In Florida where I live, the moped style is street usable while the second "recreational" style would be pointless. The second version can not be driven on public streets or sidewalks, only on private property. also, even though it has be used on private property, you still have to hold a valid Fl driver's license to ride one. That would make it somewhat pointless to have.
From what I gather, they are not trying to patent P2P but more in the line of a patent on charging you to distribute the files for them. I always thought that we already had a patent or 2 floating around that targeted screwing your customers and/or target audience.
The FAQ they provide does not give enough valuable information to make a decision on how they will work this set up. I can understand not listing any cost this early but other pertinent information is missing.
The primary concern of mine would be the usability of the music I download. Will I be able to burn it to disc? Will it require proprietary software to run or wil I be able to play it in any system that I normally listen to music on? For me to pay a fee to download a song or full album/CD I personally require the ability to listen to the music where, when and how I please. If I am unable to make a CD that I can play in my car or home stereo, it is pointless. I can buy the CD on sale at my local department store and listen to it in less time.
Also, they state that they "must keep some things secret". How about you they tell us more of how this works. They claim it is legal file sharing done by using a peer to peer network. The mention of the artists and such basically being paid for this has brought up a simple question. If I pay them to download this music, shouldn't the person providing the song to me also be paid since it was thier own computer and bandwidth that was used to give me the file?
I don't about you but I would not want my neighbor/friend being paid so I could move a third party's stuff. Why should I distribute thier files with out being compensated myself?
Has anyone found more information in that site outside of the limited and useless FAQ?
Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959). You know it gonna go downhill when the actor playing the prime enemy is replaced half way through filming by somebody who looks nothing like him. So you everytime they have the "new guy" on camera, he covers his face and you can see it switching back and forth constantly. Comical in a way but oh what a bad movie.
OK. I read the first part of this and just had to ask.. when they refer to IE6 and "Big Blue", do they mean the computer or are they using a monitor around the size of 35 inch when they crash?
Backwards compatible, forward compatible... all I know is that if my PS2 can play PS3 games, I just saved a bunch of money and I didn't switch to some lizard's insurance company!
I live in the NorthEast corner outside of Jacksonville. And by the way the WalMarts are popping up around here, I would say another few months and there will be one located in the Atlantic for cruise ships, fisherman, and refugees.
no ill feelings towards the South Eastern US (I live in Fl) but some of these must be wrong. If you have ever driven through the southern states, you would agree with me when I say that at least 3 of these MUST be right in the middle of a WalMart or WinnDixie.
While visiting my brother... somewhere outside of Auburn... where his nearest neighbor was a long distance phone call... and people were watching... with guns...
When the Blair Witch Project came out, they had a website set up and designed to look so realistic that many, many people actually believed it. IMHO, that is exactly what we have happening here.
My thoughts as to why...
1. If your gonna hack somebody's web page, why do something like this and why do something as simple as imbed a bit of Java into the html code? Wouldn't you want to make a little more of an effort seeing you went through all of the trouble to hack it in the first place?
2. If somebody hijacked your hotmail account, any message you send to yourself would still appear. If they hijacked it, they had to have taken control of more then that one email.
Bah.. if this makes no sense to you, I am sorry. I have too much time on my hands and am in the process of trying to get my mind off some real life issues. But other then that, it is a great idea to get attention.
They can threaten me all they want and I still won't send any money. Not due to my being broke or anything but because of one simple little problem. They will never find my house, even I can't find my own house half the time!
With out knowing the physical limitations or the like from the average submarine, why not use something of this style. The deepest diving subs can tolerate pressures on the hull far that of the average structure on land. Could something of this general style sustain the pressures exerted by a large amount of snow piled on top of it? Plus it would have the added benefit of being able to handle the under water conditions after the next ledge breaks off sending the base into the cold seas.

If they are spending $5 mil to fight computer crimes, how much of that will go towards fixing IE to the point it is truely secure?
Sorry about a poor attempt at an IE joke but it was the very thought that came to mind after reading this.
I think that the AI in games is getting great. A prime example would be BF2. I went online to play it and found that even though the AI players are easier to kill while online, they are much more life like with the insults and complaints.
She is not my sister!! She is my wife. :)
WASH: Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... This Land.

Should code be secret? That is debatable and, in my opinion, would fall to an individual per code basis.
As for software. Yes, some of that should have been kept secret. WinME, Daikatana, and the Deer Hunter series all come to mind in this case.

Please do not say this too loudly as I am in fear I may lose my job. MSUnemploymentXP 2004 does not pay nearly enough.

The only way Microsoft will embrace Linux is money, and that company has enough of that sitting in a bank.
