I have to agree. Harrassment in any form, is harrassment. The original poster uses the telephone analogy. What about the US Postal Service? The same law applies to the letters you get. If you tell anyone to stop contacting you, and they continue, thats harrassement. And its not at 3 am, so it provides a better analogy. Free speech is needed, but when free speech become harmfull, its no longer free speech and should not be protected. Those on the internet who use blogs and other forms of communications, i.e. Usenet, to post harrassing messages, are confusing it with free speech.

Most of these spammers are con artist going back to the mid 80s boiler room stock market scams. If someone just did a background check for outstanding warrants, I would bet there is a good chance of finding them. That could give cause to go in an arrest them since we know where they are.

I sometimes ponder if anyone has thought about taking the Spamhaus top ten list and making it into a hit list.

It would stand to reason that the 80/20 rule could apply. Kill the top 20% of the spammers and we could eliminate 80% of the spam.

Its kind of hard to burn bridges that were not built to start with.

Really, the best revenge is ignorance. Give him two weeks notice and thats it. Nothing more. Don't tell him why you are leaving or where you are going or anything. The only thing he needs to know is you are quitting and he has been given his legal two weeks notice. Not knowing anything will likely kill him. Unfortunately he will also pester your coworkers about it, but since they don't know anything either, it will continue to grind his goat.

This way if any future employers do talk to your current employer, they can only get your side of the discussion. Your current employer will have nothing to offer. Besides, legally they can't give out negative information, injuring your chances at a new job.

Ignorance can be blissfull or painful. Its how you use it.

Worst part of it was their insurance company said it was not covered, even as an act of god because not every computer had a surge protector. They changed their insurance fast.

I remember when Spamcop was purchased and the company that purchased them also makes the hardware sold to spammers. Its too much work to find it but I know it was in the news.

So the company was working both sides of the fence. Because of that, it sounds like the company is being sued by one of it own customers, IF anyone can confirm the spammer is a customer of Spamcop's parent company. This would almost sound like a conflict of interest in that your selling to the guy suing you.

So this really is not a surprise, as Spamcop's parent company likely knew that someday they would be in this legal position.

  25. Poor Logic on Stoplights to Mete Out Punishment? · · Score: 1

Whoever created this idea wasn't thinking about public safety, they were thinking revenue. Just because the light changes faster won't make the driver stop. If the driver is speeding and in a hurry they are going to blow the red light whenever it changes. This means that drivers who would have stopped for a read light with a longer yellow will not and that means they are going to run the intersection and slam into the person who got the green light. This can only lead to increased accidents at those intersections.

Take it from someone whose wife was slammed into by those running red lights, 4 times in 5 years in the pathetic state of Illinois.
