Yes it does work right. We do it everyday, several conference rooms, several hours a day. I'd hesitate to say that we're at 5 nines, but it works 99% of the time. And we don't do anything less than 768k, usually 1.5Mb. It's when we start to connect to folks not on Abilene (Internet2's backbone) that some problems arise, but usually they are firewall config problems.

And what I really want is a Tivo like device where my radio currently sits. Being able to listen to "Talk of the Nation: Science Friday" at 3pm is not possible for me, but having it record it so that I could listen on the way home would be great.

I'm getting to used to the PVR features I have at home and really want them for the audio in my car.

Of course I expect the RIAA goons to come down HARD on anyone who tries to make a commercial product like this.

Most people don't put APs on their roofs, so I'd say that there is a lot to block those waves. Wood, shingles, metal, clay, etc. The antenna and a card with good sensitivity helped this a great deal.

Now suppose you wanted to record a whole symphone with a 50 mike setup, and you wanted to do it in 192khz. You want 60 minutes of music and take each song a minimum of 2 times. That's 192GB of data, and you still need space to process that to a final form.

I totally get your point, but even in the most sophisticated symphonic recording setups you would never have 40 some spot mics (okay, someone probably does it, but it would be insane). However, in pop recording these days, it's not out of the question to have 50+ tracks, although all 50 would probably not be all going all the time for 3.5 minutes.

As a person using a DAW to do albums, this whole storage thing is on the forefront of my mind.
