Sure, but there are many more people on the planet now then there was back then, and besides I'm talking more about places like South America where they've cleared vast tracts of land of rainforest.
..but willingly give out your real-life information..
I, for one, don't. I know other people who also do not. I do have many friends who say "I have nothing to hide so why should I care?", and I don't bother trying to explain it to them because they just don't get the basic concept. Some of them may one day have a rude awakening when they discover that there is something about their lives they don't want the whole wide world knowing, but most will not. I will continue to use pseudonyms online, and carefully screen my own postings to such sites so as to maintain an air gap between my online life and my "real" life, and laugh at everyone else who gets caught with their pants down.
Was their "corporate headquarters" located beneath the crater of an extinct volcano, or did they have their board of directors meetings in Italian restaurants?
Do not want! This is already starting to sound like another case of "give up some of your freedom in exchange for more security", which is of course a fallacy. Why don't they try properly enforcing the laws already on the books instead of moving us ever closer to living in a police state? This year it'll be a national ID card with biometrics. Next year it'll be RFID chips surgically implanted, probably "for the sake of the children" or some such nonsense.
I've suspected for some time now that the recording industry would like to remove all these pesky musicians from the process of making money, and now I see the proof. No, I'm not joking. Look at the crap that's playing on the radio right now: music that sounds like an old Nintendo game, with vocals that have been processed to the point where they sound like a cheap voice synthesizer from the 80's. It's not much of a stretch that if this current crop of crap will fly, then why not 100% computer composed and synthesized music?
I have a simple solution that is guaranteed to piss off these paper-pushers: You get a tiny little kiosk somewhere, with one person working in it, and all they do is take orders to be shipped somewhere else. No inventory whatsoever, but it's a physical presense for that company.:-)
I don't own a HDTV or a Blu-ray player, and have no immediate plans to purchase any of the above because I have better things to do with my money. I can live without these things. It would be nice to have, but if they're going to play bullshit DRM games with the hardware, then they can fucking keep it, I'll spend my money on other things, and they can go fuck themselves. I recommend everyone else do the same; vote with your dollars, that's the only way to make your voice heard in a capitalist system!
I wouldn't at all be surprised, especially for the rediculously low selling price, if it's got botnet software embedded right into it, and this is part of an overall plan to create a wireless and mobile botnet. Either that, or a tool for direct identity theft or worse.
I see nothing good coming of this. It's like a plot from some bad made-for-TV SciFi movie -- and it'll end just as badly, if it gets off the ground at all.
Hey, I know! We can tattoo it on the backs of people's necks! Seriously, somebody put this asshole up against a brick wall and give him a 21-gun salute.
I am not in the least bit surprised that at some point in the evolution of life on this planet a virus was able to cross the barriers and become a permanent part of our genetic code. I think as the human genome (as well as the genome of other life) is further unraveled, we'll find more and more evidence of this exact nature.
You actively don't watch movies that tackle issues you disagree with? That is a very very close minded attitude.
..and you, full of spite, sit and get your $10 worth of a movie that's making you rage? You must be an absolute barrel of laughs, mister. Fuck the hell off.
The music industry is saved!
This Lovelock character needs killing in the most desperate sort of way for making a comment like that.

Planting oodles of trees everywhere..
More like, "let's put back the forests we've destroyed over the last couple hundred years, then plant some more"

Seriously, did you even look? This is just the first site returned by a Google search for "cell phone repeater".
Was their "corporate headquarters" located beneath the crater of an extinct volcano, or did they have their board of directors meetings in Italian restaurants?
Are they sure it's actually gone? Maybe Benjamin Linus or John Locke just moved it -- again.
..Shock the Monkey?
Damnit, forgot that ./ doesn't let me post images as images, have to post the link instead:

Here's the new graphic Google is planning on using on their Hong Kong-based services for mainland China:
Facebook has the same agreement and will get to selling your data to the highest bidder sooner or later.
Which is why I do not have any real information about myself on ANY of these sorts of sites.
Do not want!

Because that would be a monumental display of common sense -- which is a misnomer anymore, because nobody seems to have any anymore.

OP is correct. We let things go this direction, we may as well all start learning to speak Mandarin.

Wait, you walked out on a MOVIE..
Fuck off.

..ah, they must be what you poor devils who don't have TiVo or some other DVR have to sit through.
