  1. Hurray! on Moog's MF-401 Auto De-tune Fixes Music · · Score: 1

    The music industry is saved!

  2. Put him up against a wall on James Lovelock Suggests Suspending Democracy To Save the World · · Score: 1

This Lovelock character needs killing in the most desperate sort of way for making a comment like that.

  3. Re:Before you muck about ..... on Cooling the Planet With a Bubble Bath · · Score: 1

Sure, but there are many more people on the planet now then there was back then, and besides I'm talking more about places like South America where they've cleared vast tracts of land of rainforest.

  4. Re:facebook, myspace, friendster, orkut on Facebook's Plan To Automatically Share Your Data · · Score: 1

..but willingly give out your real-life information..

I, for one, don't. I know other people who also do not. I do have many friends who say "I have nothing to hide so why should I care?", and I don't bother trying to explain it to them because they just don't get the basic concept. Some of them may one day have a rude awakening when they discover that there is something about their lives they don't want the whole wide world knowing, but most will not. I will continue to use pseudonyms online, and carefully screen my own postings to such sites so as to maintain an air gap between my online life and my "real" life, and laugh at everyone else who gets caught with their pants down.

  5. Re:Before you muck about ..... on Cooling the Planet With a Bubble Bath · · Score: 1

    Planting oodles of trees everywhere..

More like, "let's put back the forests we've destroyed over the last couple hundred years, then plant some more"

  6. Here, let me Google that for you, OP on How Do You Extend Your Wireless Connection? · · Score: 1

    http://www.repeaterstore.com/
Seriously, did you even look? This is just the first site returned by a Google search for "cell phone repeater".

  7. Super villians, or mafioso? on Perks & Paintball For Employees At Cybercrime, Inc. · · Score: 1

Was their "corporate headquarters" located beneath the crater of an extinct volcano, or did they have their board of directors meetings in Italian restaurants?

  8. Obligatory LOST reference on Disputed Island Disappears Into Sea · · Score: 0, Troll

Are they sure it's actually gone? Maybe Benjamin Linus or John Locke just moved it -- again.

Here's the new graphic Google is planning on using on their Hong Kong-based services for mainland China:

  12. Re:Deleting does no good on MySpace To Sell User Data · · Score: 1

Facebook has the same agreement and will get to selling your data to the highest bidder sooner or later.

Which is why I do not have any real information about myself on ANY of these sorts of sites.

  13. Re:Papers Please! on US Immigration Bill May Bring a National Biometric ID Card · · Score: 1

    Do not want!
This is already starting to sound like another case of "give up some of your freedom in exchange for more security", which is of course a fallacy. Why don't they try properly enforcing the laws already on the books instead of moving us ever closer to living in a police state? This year it'll be a national ID card with biometrics. Next year it'll be RFID chips surgically implanted, probably "for the sake of the children" or some such nonsense.

  14. Just as I've suspected on How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Music · · Score: 1

I've suspected for some time now that the recording industry would like to remove all these pesky musicians from the process of making money, and now I see the proof. No, I'm not joking. Look at the crap that's playing on the radio right now: music that sounds like an old Nintendo game, with vocals that have been processed to the point where they sound like a cheap voice synthesizer from the 80's. It's not much of a stretch that if this current crop of crap will fly, then why not 100% computer composed and synthesized music?

  15. Re:No words on eBay Urges Rethink On EU Plan's "Brick and Mortar" Vendor Requirement · · Score: 1

I have a simple solution that is guaranteed to piss off these paper-pushers: You get a tiny little kiosk somewhere, with one person working in it, and all they do is take orders to be shipped somewhere else. No inventory whatsoever, but it's a physical presense for that company. :-)

  16. Personally, I say "so fucking what?" on 2010 — the Year AACS and HDMI Kill Off HD Component Video · · Score: 1, Insightful

I don't own a HDTV or a Blu-ray player, and have no immediate plans to purchase any of the above because I have better things to do with my money. I can live without these things. It would be nice to have, but if they're going to play bullshit DRM games with the hardware, then they can fucking keep it, I'll spend my money on other things, and they can go fuck themselves. I recommend everyone else do the same; vote with your dollars, that's the only way to make your voice heard in a capitalist system!

  17. Botnet on What You Get When You Buy a $40 iPhone In a Bar · · Score: 4, Interesting

I wouldn't at all be surprised, especially for the rediculously low selling price, if it's got botnet software embedded right into it, and this is part of an overall plan to create a wireless and mobile botnet. Either that, or a tool for direct identity theft or worse.

  18. Re:Make the Parents Responsible on Google, Yahoo and Others Fight the Aussie Filter · · Score: 1

Because that would be a monumental display of common sense -- which is a misnomer anymore, because nobody seems to have any anymore.

  19. What could POSSIBLY go wrong? on DARPA Aims for Synthetic Life With a Kill Switch · · Score: 0, Redundant

I see nothing good coming of this. It's like a plot from some bad made-for-TV SciFi movie -- and it'll end just as badly, if it gets off the ground at all.

  20. Stupid idea of the year award on Craig Mundie Wants "Internet Driver's Licenses" · · Score: 1

Hey, I know! We can tattoo it on the backs of people's necks! Seriously, somebody put this asshole up against a brick wall and give him a 21-gun salute.

OP is correct. We let things go this direction, we may as well all start learning to speak Mandarin.

  22. Not surprising on 8% of Your DNA Comes From a Virus · · Score: 1

I am not in the least bit surprised that at some point in the evolution of life on this planet a virus was able to cross the barriers and become a permanent part of our genetic code. I think as the human genome (as well as the genome of other life) is further unraveled, we'll find more and more evidence of this exact nature.

  23. Re:Why am I not surprised? on Cuba Jails US Worker Handing Out Laptops, Cellphones · · Score: 1

  24. Re:Why am I not surprised? on Cuba Jails US Worker Handing Out Laptops, Cellphones · · Score: 0, Flamebait

You actively don't watch movies that tackle issues you disagree with? That is a very very close minded attitude.

..and you, full of spite, sit and get your $10 worth of a movie that's making you rage? You must be an absolute barrel of laughs, mister. Fuck the hell off.

  25. What are these 'commercials' of which you speak? on "Loud Commercial" Legislation Proposed In US Congress · · Score: 4, Funny
