    Good point. And given how late it is already in the year, I think the time has passed to pass the information around the high schools in my area anyway.

    Either way though, I still would like to get in touch with this group and see if they have their curriculum available to the public..etc..

    This would also allow a user to have multiple screens overlapping one another, kind of like transparencies but much more powerfull.

    Now that sounds like good use to me.. of course, this comes from someone sitting in his cube with two 21" monitors in front of him, and two laptops on the side to monitor the WLAN..

    I was missing the concept of having an actual stop at the back, or a black background. I thought I would be able to see the dusty corner of my cube... :)

    I can't wait to see who it is that I'll be killing in the near future..

    But seriously.. besides the HUD mentioned in the article, I have a hard time picturing actual uses for this.. maybe a little improvement to Disneland's Star Tours ride?

    Call me silly, but it's hard for me to picture using something that's transparent which I will most likely see right through in the process of falling asleep while at my desk..

    One interesting factoid is that the robot can recognize objects until the object is blocked - up to 40% - by something (like a piece of furniture).

    So what you're saying is that it can recognize something that it's looking at until it starts looking at whatever is in front of what it was looking at before?

    Technology like that just baffles the mind... :)

    I hate to make this comparison, but...

    Taking control of Europe was not enough for Hittler. He wanted to control the entire world. What we have with MS, is very much the same thing. A trillion dollars is no longer enough to feed all the hungry piranhas, and that's not what it's all about either. It's the recognition and the power that comes with being "an executive at Microsoft"..

    Basically, this is no longer just about an operating system. This is about a way of life. MS is deeply entrenched in many other business, and we don't even notice. While we're watching them twirl their left fist at us, their right hand is getting ready to slap us in the face.

    I only hope that we're waking up to this fact early enough...

    Can you really picture an Aibo bought "in bulk" beating humans at soccer?

    Incredibly enough, I used to work for a company that used to make robots (Nomadic Technologies) who is no longer in business, mainly because the owners hated competition.. and it was obvious why.

    But back to the point... I have seen some amazing things done with robots and a little LISP programming. Robots working in conjunction with one another to acheive a common goal. And of course, the basic "learning of a laberynth", which is not that basic. This does make me believe that one day, technology will be able to beat humans at team sports.

    The reason for my belief is non technical; robots do not have egos and will work better as a team.

    In this earlier story we are told that AI is going no where due to the fact that graduate students are spending 3 years fixing broken robots instead of programming them.

    I think if they give up those big robots, buy some Aibos in bulk, they can skip the repair stage, or at least shorten it quite a bit. Of course, if they get them at Circuit City, they can get the extended guarantee and not have to worry about repairs at all!!!

    Funny how you can find out things about people, and how appearances are not always correct. Take me for instance, I really thought Tobby was as quiet and good natured as he plays in his movies. But after reading the article, I realize he's just another person who has allowed the money to go to his head.

    Fine, you're a millionaire, this doesn't automatically mean you need to be a prick.. be thankful that someone actually pays to go see your stuff, and realize that without the studios/directors/producers there will be no film, and you woulnd't be getting jack..

    is there such a thing as OC/48 bandwidth throttling?

    As far as I know, which is very little, there is no such thing. You get 2gbps and that's the end of it.. there's no such thing as "it's burstable to 10gbps..yada yada yada".. but why is the poor guy who can barely afford the T-1 getting penalized?

    Just my opinion.. everyone has one.. I got more than most.. :)
