OK, I'm not real fond of the "under god" bit, nor do I think that anyone should be compelled to pledge allegiance in our public schools. But why oh why do we pledge allegiance to a flag? I don't give a rats ass about it, its a piece of cloth, a symbol with no meaning. How's about a pledge of allegiance to the Constitution. Oh wait, then we might think we have rights or something.
While I agree there are some real idiots sitting on the bench, some of the examples you site are complete BS. In the case of Lee West, his ruling was simply that there was nothing stated in the enforcing agency's charter that would give it the power to enforce a do not call list. You may not agree with the ruling in this particular case, but limiting government agencies to their actual rules and charters is a damn good idea. Congress just added it to the charter, problem solved.
Now as far as the pledge of allegiance is concerned, hell yeah it should be changed. What part of separation of church and state do you not understand? Kids are required to be at school, and required in many schools to say the pledge. If they say the pledge they are acknolodging a god, and dont forget, freedom of religion includes freedom from religion. The pledge as originally written did not even include the words "under god" in it, and the family of the original writer protested its addition during the cold war.
This is exactly the problem. At some point, copyright and patent protection ends (although the US congress seems intent on making sure copyright never ends) putting the information clearly in the public domain. At what point does that NDA or license expire?
Just saw that 2.6.0-test4 is out. Been using test-3 with a patch akmp patch for the APIC on the nforce2, and have loved the results. X is more responsive, sound is much less likely to skip when the disk is in use. Havent found out if they included that patch in test-4, so if anyone knows, please reply.
There have been some really great games on the gamecube, Metroid Prime, Zelda, and Eternal Darkness. But they dropped the ball big time on Super Mario Sunshine. It's just not fun.
I wouldnt call Metroid Prime a kiddie game, nor would I call Eternal Darkness one either. I think the main reason that Nintendo gets the "kiddie game" title is remnants from the old Mortal Kombat debacle, and that they dont have something like Grand Theft Auto 3 in the library. Still as a gamecube owner, I'm pissed off about the total lack of online games. Phantasy Star Online? I'm not saying its a bad game, but its an almost 3 year old port, and thats it. The other problem is, although the controller is excellent for first party games, when you start playing the EA Sports games, the z button starts looking like a crime against humanity.
From what I have seen, it just has a list of ips of law enforcement and record industry computers. Not a very fool proof method, but better than a tin foil hat.
Last I checked most of japan was not on GSM. There is GSM service for travellers, but for the most part it is CDMA. Same with South Korea. That is part of the reason they have had 3g services far quicker than Europe. CDMA to CDMA2000 handoffs are relatively easy compared to GSM to WCDMA handoffs.
My wife has a t68i and although she really likes it, I hate the damned thing. Sure its tiny, and it has a cute color screen, but its reception is awful. I dont know how many times I have not been able to reach her just because the phone is not getting a signal. And even when I do get through, if she is in a building of any significant size, she cuts in and out. Unless the reception has vastly improved for this phone, her next phone will definately be a nokia after our experience with the t68i.
Went in to staples yesterday just to see if they had anything worthwhile, and sitting in their display case for pda's and pda accessories was a Sony Clie SJ30 on clearance for $125. My Handspring Visor died over the holidays I snatched it right up. Considering that the SJ33 is going for $299 and I already have an mp3 player that holds alot more than I can afford to buy in Sony Memory Sticks, its great for me.
The big reason that the dreamcast failed was the failure of the hardware between the Genesis and the Dreamcast. By the time the Dreamcast came out, sega had been bleeding money for quite awhile. For Sega to continue making hardware, the DC would have had to have been a huge success, not just a moderate one. Nintendo on the other hand, has a big fat bank account, and remains profitable with the smaller market share of the GC (the cash cow that is the gameboys have been doesnt hurt either).
Metroid prime? Eternal Darkness? Although both are developed by Nintendo second party developers and not Nintendo themselves, they both are shining examples of the polish and refined gameplay that Nintendo excels at, while at the same time being mature and intelligent. Dont get me wrong, I dont think the movement of games to a more mature audience is a bad thing, but Nintendo does a much better job providing titles for both audience than most people realize. Sure, Nintendo is Mario and Zelda, but its also now the Rovas family, and Samus Aran.
OK, can someone explain to me the difference between all of the 3g CDMA standards? Like CDMA 2000 vs. WCDMA? Is it a just a difference in how much data a second can be transferred, or is there something else to it. I know 1xRTT fits in there somewhere as well, but I think its just for voice.
There are certain companies out there who can and will unlock GSM phones. From what I have heard, T-Mobile (formerly VoiceStream) will give you an unlocking code for your phone after a few months provided you keep your account in good standing. For other providers, there are several different ways to flash the phone to be unlocked. We did this with a T68i phone, and it works great. We ended up spending less on the phone and unlocking that we would have spent on an unlocked phone from the beginning. Sure we have a one year contract from AT&T, but when we travel outside the US, a simple sim swap, and we are setup.
I've been on Sprint for about 3 years, and have had good luck with them for the most part. The biggest thing with them is that they have so many different phones and the majority are crap phones. I had a Samsung 3500 (it came free when I signed up). It worked fine, and then sprint started getting more and more callers in the area. Suddenly my calls started dropping like mad. Eventually the Samsung phones speaker went. After doing some research, I bought a Sanyo phone. Dropped calls are gone, and I almost never get the "out of sprint area" prompt. I think some of these companies just dont have the time to properly test their CDMA phones properly, which isnt surprising as pretty much every where besides the US and Japan, is all GSM.
Now their vision service has been very hit and miss. The data stuff is cool, but times out easily, and their network goes down quicker than a Sorority Girl after a couple of Long Island Iced Teas.
the T68i is a tri-band phone. However it only works on GSM networks. My wife just bought one about a month ago, and she loves it. I almost got one too, but decided to get a Sprint Vision phone (the Sanyo 4900, a bit big, but built like a brick outhouse) mainly for the fact that there is very limited GSM coverage right now in the US. So the trade off is mine works more in the states, but when we go to Europe or Asia, hers works.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided that my simple little monocrome phone wasnt cutting it anymore, so I bought one of the Sanyo 4900 phones from sprint. I love the phone, the screen is nice and readable, the battery life is excellent, and its reception is top notch. Its a little big for most people but I prefer a little more size as my fingers are too big to deal with really small phones (my wife has a T68i, and the buttons are too small for my hands). The problem is that the 3g service is not good right now. The data rate maybe improved from the old sprint data service, but the latency is horrible. It takes a long time to connect, and is unreliable as well. Also, it has taken sprints web site over two weeks to figure out that I am a PCS Vision customer now, and still wont show me the extra vision options on the web site. So the PCS Visions phones are really great, but sprints 3g service really needs some tweaking before I'd recommend it to anyone.
I just bought a Sanyo 4900 phone from sprint last week (really nice phone, although sprints SMS interface is total garbage) and it includes gps and the ability to turn it on and off. I'm not sure if the gps is in the phone or at the towers, but sprint promises location based services using it.
Uh, no we are not. No declaration of war has been made. Martial Law has not been declared. That is what is really scary about this, there is a legal framework for the government to take these kind of powers in emergencies, however that framework was ignored. And for those that think that those procedures take too long, they had enough time to pass the patriot act.
Ghost in the Shell was the anime movie that made me realize how evil english dubs can be. The movie made no sense at all with the english dubbed version, it just seemed like a visual treat, with some sort of philosophical substance that I wasnt getting However, when I finally got a chance to watch it in japanese with subtitles, it finally made sense, it still wasnt philosophically meaty, but I didnt feel that the movie was just an excuse to draw the major naked. Either way, the animation was brilliant, and since the series will prolly be on DVD, I can have my subtitles and japanese voices.

Just got my dual g5 on friday afternoon for work. Guess what, I don't qualify for the up to date program, its only for macs sold after today.
I believe its Robert Anton Wilson, and the quote was "It only takes 20 years for a liberal to become a conservative with out changing a single idea."

Doubtful on the Vodka. Aim lower, like wine, cider or beer ;)

I know honda has this sort of setup standard on the Element, and I know its an option on most other Honda cars.

Well, the CDMA2000 1XRTT service that Sprint and Verison are currently selling are as close to 3g as you will find anywhere on the planet right now.
