I don't think there is a single class action law firm in the world with enough money or balls to take on Microsoft over this. Their Windows EULA has always allowed them to make changes to your computer based on whatever they feel like. It always seemed sleazy to me. But, it was never a cause for concern until this year. Still, the EULA makes all their bullshit legal as you license the OS, you do not own it.

  4. You could just turn off Recommended updates and accomplish the same thing, but with improved security.

  5. True as of today. Chromebooks are coming on strong, especially with Android apps being able to run in Linux containers. Microsoft already brought Office Online to Android as apps. So, they'll also run on newer Chromebooks later this year.

Years ago, Steve Ballmer said that it was still "early in the mobile space" when it was already getting to be too late. Windows phone 7 withered and became 7.5, than 8, than 8.1,and now 10. Each iteration seemed to have more problems than the previous one, from what I remember reading. The strong push to Windows 10 on the desktop may have been a major influence on people leading them to choose any phone OS but Windows. Too many stupid decisions at Microsoft in the past 4 years to comprehend what they hell they were, and currently are still, thinking.

Web printing sucks. When Google finally puts out a Chrome OS with local USB printing, without having to go through the web and back again, the product will find a larger audience. Windows 10 has pissed off enough people to open up their minds to using Chromebooks as long as they don't need to also buy another printer. People are weird that way.

Classic Shell is not banned as such, and likely won't be as it uses a Windows installer. But, updates to Windows may break Classic Shell, in which case the latest version needs to be downloaded and installed if one wants to keep the Windows 7 look and feel. Many of us thought the evil empire was dead when the new management took over. Instead, they've doubled down on stepping on consumer's toes by turning every annoying thing on that is in Windows 10. Enterprise users, the big money maker for MS, will be able to deploy images that are exactly what they want them to be.
