    ... and you need to get out in the fields once in a while :-D

    Industrial hemp is somewhat cheaper. I do not have quotes for this year, but say maybe $200/tonnes (and not per ounce!) should give you an approximate idea.

    For fuel you would go for the oil of the seeds and process it directly into synthetic diesel.

    ... would be hemp. To make it a real "green" option you'd also have to think about the cykles of the crops you grow. This in order to minimize synthetic fertilisation which kind spoils the whole equation. Wikipedia has a shortish entry:

    That the fabric gets stronger when wet is an interresting quality. Usually viscosis based products, nomatter how comfortable they may be to wear in the sun, totally disintegrates in heavy showers (yeah, been there ...)

    So a combination of this with some oldfashioned 19th century tech might eventually lead to a useful product.

    According to http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35 011 there is nothing breathtakingly "new" here. If you were hoping for dramatic changes like r1 += r2 * r3 or altivec style permute, it is simply not there.

    It would still be only 10 calls for the Apache team to analyze and prove innocent, where the actual difference is much smaller than the somewhat excaggerated 10 vs 1000 example.

    Throw a scripting language into the mix, _then_ watch the calling graph to go thru the roof :-D

    Mmmm ... Not a bad thought. If the US owes the Chinese some trillions, but on the other hand the Russians owes the US a similar amount, then the net sum will approach zero and national debts be gone. That it is all toy-money is not important. As long as you follow the rules of accounting.

    The 'f' in 0.5f keeps the compiler away from casting 0.5 to the default 64bit double. So we get to stay in the cheaper 32 bit domain for our calculation.

    There is only one iteration, and as many other have said, this is because the initial guess is so clever so one iteration will be sufficient for the job in question. If you wanted to do a second iteration you would repeat the last line rather than set up a loop. So there would not be any 'for' or 'while' statements in that case either.

    The term Third World is a handwawing reference to all those nameless poor buggers carrying the fat asses from the Old as well as the New World on their shoulders. They deliver the fuel to our economies needed to stay on top (of them!), but nobody had given a damned thought of identifying who they were, or reflect on that they existed at all.

    The Old World refers to Europe, including the inheritage of Greek math, Italian book-keeping, classical arts and music ... The works.

    The New world is literally supposed to be all of the Americas, but admittedly the US is what comes to mind first.

    Russia (with or without the prefix "Soviet") would be part of the Old World.
