Well, considering I can remember all-too-well paying $40 for a five-pack of CD-Rs about five years ago (ouch), it could be much worse. At least they came with jewel cases. 8^)
Good stuff. It seems that we aren't alone after browsing this topic. Ah, well. Misery loves company!
And, I learned one thing through the dot com fad:
If they ever say, "We can't pay you well, but we offer great options!" it means, "We have no money, and our stock is worthless but we may be able to make it", which means "We're screwed, and just dont know it yet". Not only from my experience, but from all my friends who were at dot-coms too.
Very well said. New mantra: bird in hand, bird in hand, bird in hand... 8^D

That 4-day idea is great in theory. I wonder if I could sell my boss on it...
My opinion on the remote access is this: Great for the middle-of-the-night issues (which take five minutes to resolve). I live about 35 miles away from my job, and it is *not* a fun drive at 2:30am. Fix the machine whilst still wearing Underoos.
It is not so great (or some would say sucky) when the pointy-haired manager spews, "Oh, I need you to install Oracle on this box today. I know it is your day off, but blah blah blah blah." Grrr.
Before, when I was working at a dot-com startup that I really cared about and got to wear ten different hats: 11-13 hours/day
Now, after the lack of funding and falling victim of the overspending of the business folks above me, I am back in "corporate America". I sneak out after six hours and read/. all day.
Please don't trace my IP and tell on me. 8^)
How I miss the wild, carefree dot-com days. I didn't mind spending time at work, because it was fun... sigh...
I couldn't agree more. When I take my Palm Vx with me, it is not because I feel like kernel hacking or writing device drivers. Sometimes, I just want addresses, phone numbers, and appointments! I know that it is probably hard for Taco to grasp, but one should use the proper tool for the job. If it is a notebook, Palm, Newton, or whatever, if it suits the purpose that you need it for, fine.
I, for one, will not give up my Palm in order to have a PDA with crontab and rc scripts. Besides, it turns on every time!
Perhaps more interesting was how they lured them into this country with the promise of a job (and toilet paper, bread, etc.), and nabbed them when they got here... Brilliant!
Dope Wars: The ultimate drug game. Buy and sell, make a profit. Nobody has to die (you can run from the police rather than shooting), and you can even play it on a Palm Pilot.
This is my favorite desktop Linux flavor. I still prefer OpenBSD for the firewalling, and Slackware for the servers, but Mandrake is my favorite desktop flavor.
Is this pretty much the way everyone feels, or are people more dedicated to a particular distribution?
Yet another useful method of seperating the US Taxpayer with his hard-earned money... We are going to end up footing most of the expense behind this one... (as always) 8^(
If they are testing it and it is working properly, they must be buying the service from AT&T. How come they get to beta-test and I don't? 8^( They probably got a free phone with a contract, too...
God help anyone who thinks it will work if Sprint developed it... (for less than a premium fee, of course)...
Whenever the clip appears, I quickly turn him off because his noises irritate me. However, the people in my family leave him on and get great help and advice from him. I just think that it reminds me too much of the cutesy, condescending Microsoft software of the near past (can you say Microsoft Bob?).
I couldn't agree more. A copy should be EXACTLY THE SAME as the original, otherwise it is not a copy -- it is an "interpretation". Case in point:
I buy a book. I obtain a digital copy of said book to consult at work. Totally covered under fair use. Now...
Based on the "close enough of a copy" argument of the previous poster, it is enough to have someone's interpretation of the book, not the exact content. So, you have someone read it, and summarize it. You take their summary and make your e-document. Your content is virtually the same as an analog copy of a digital recording. It is close, but don't say it is an exact copy.
I think that this is missing the point, though. Unless you plan on running Windows XP on your iMac, you should be more than safe. I have no doubt that USB will continue to be supported, though not necessarily embraced by Apple's future OS releases...
RE: 60 cent tax...
How well would that go over in the US?

Isn't it legal here?! I don't recall any verdicts to come down saying otherwise...
