Umm, one of the Atkins diet credos is that exercise is non-negotiable.

I started it in April, and have lost 30 pounds with no ill effect, or even discomfort. I do three 5-K runs per week at a somewhat leisurely pace, and bike a half-hour twice (lifting weights for 20 minutes on the other two days). The aerobic activity has made it climbing multiple flights of stairs and other "everyday" physical exertions a non-issue.

Seriously, though. I agree with some of the above posters. There is a reason the animals are no longer with us. And one can argue that it was humans that caused the extinction in the first place, and it was therefore our fault. However, the last time I checked, humans were part of the animal kingdom. Drawing off that fact, it becomes easy to argue that any forces we exerted on species were natural, albeit not in the best interest of other species on this planet (or even ourselves).

Extinction has been occurring for millions of years. It is natural, folks. The scientific community needs to try and get over their "god" complex.

For all the foibles and blunders committed by the human race in the name of science during the last few hundred years, this one personally gives me the most reason for concern.

  7. Digital Broadcast != HDTV on Whether (And When) To Buy HDTV? · · Score: 5, Informative

The 2006 deadline is for having DIGITAL broadcasts, *not* High-Definition. They are two seperate issues right now. While there will be a set-top adapter available to convert digital to analog for older TVs, it is unknown as to whether or not these will actually be inexpensive enough to warrant not just purchasing a new television set. It is also very likely that stations will maintain an analog broadcast if it proves to be useful in their area (perhaps where the demographic is not likely to upgrade old systems).

Hear that, CBS? You'd better keep analog up for your demographic (the old farts that don't want to give up their old console Zenith from the 1970s).

Isn't a full-time job one that you spend 40+ hours per week on? Since there are 168 hours in a week, even having FOUR full-time jobs would leave a mere eight hours PER WEEK for sleeping, eating, commuting, etc. And 40 hours is the bare minimum around here. I code Perl 50 hours plus per week for actual uses in the credit card industry, not making kooky new modules.

Give me a break, buddy. You aren't the only one who has to work for a living, and your job seems pretty cush... Quit it with the martyr syndrome, and write the damn book.
