-UCARP for a virtual shared ip.
-DRBD for a shared filesytem between two hosts. Typically you use this for the/www folder
-CSync2 for syncing configuration files.
That way UCARP triggers apache to start on the passive host, when the master fails.
As true as the outcome may be, that still doesn't validate the necessity of a race to procure a speedier advancement.
You don't think that if the USA And the USSR had worked together that we wouldn't have gotten there just as quick, if not quicker?
We only had a "race" cause both sides decided to be assholes to eachother after WW2... this isn't a browser war, if we don't work together on it, we'll end up with a "winner" doing spacey stuff, and a bunch of losers back here on earth, and all that this new "class war" would create.
I personally believe if you get a too large group of people. Some will end up not being heard, not work so hard because they feel redundant or just end up wasting a lot of time because of communication trouble.
The competition aspect will probably motivate workers more and they will probably work harder.
For ex. I think 1 programmer putting in 10 hours of effective work is more effective than two programmers working 6 hours each. There's a overhead in collaboration.
Well i'll guess they'll be selling xbox and zune.
But what about personal computers? A Microsoft software store doesn't seam very exciting, but if they start selling computers wouldn't that hurt their relationship with partners such as HP, dell, acer etc?
I would still find ways to not do work even without Slashdot!
Cool! How do you manage to do that? Please, share your secret with the rest of the world...
I can only talk for my self. But I've switch to Gentoo in our serverfarm. I just do periodic emerge -e system and keep one open Putty window on my screen at all times. That way i look busy and i can surf on my other screens without feeling guilty. Don't need slashdot for that!
It doesn't matter if this happend. Because the security you get by buying and installing kaspersky is that they add you on the russian mafias exceptions list. So you buy your freedom sort of. It's like a bar-owner buying off the local mafia. Protection money!
That's great and all. I think Ubuntu is great if you are a novice user that just wants to surf the web etc. But for more advanced users the linux desktop still doesn't cut it. Way too much hassle IMO.
you can download the instruction from the Pirate Bay...
.torrent or it didn't happend
Meh, they'd just pass a directive - we've passed over 9000 EU directives without being a member already.
Fixed that for you.
It is 'Security Theater', it will not stop botnets from being formed.
IT will not STOP. But it will help the users that are smart enough to know that their excel document shouldn't require admin-privelegies!
. And I like having a shelf full of pretty boxes :)

dude at informationweek wrote this. looks like not much end users can do.
I see he uses ARP-Spoofing to re-route the traffice via the infected host. A good managed switch comes a long way in defeating arp-juggling I guess.
Considering it can go by the 'Windows LISA',
What are you doiing Liiisa? - i've never heard you sing! GOD DAMNIT I need to get that song out of my head.
If you are going to criticize someone's grammar. Your post should be grammatically flawless.
Because the commenter is a professional writer? Do you expect the same level of grammatic correctness from a journalist and a janitor?
Start->Run
ftp ftp.mozilla.org cd /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.0.6/win32/en-US/
get "Firefox Setup 3.0.6.exe"
IE is one of the most bloated firefox download tools there is.
10 bucks that you used a browser to find the correct path!
Sounds like something a certain bear at a certain /b/ would set up.

Why is there a race? Why aren't they working together to find it?
Races are good. I don't think we would have gone to the moon so fast if it wasn't a race between usa and russia.
After watching 3 guys 1 hammer last night i really need this.

Disclaimer: I work for Intel,
Stop right there. Why aren't you at work making me faster processors? Log off SLACKdot and get back to work you lazy sob!
Windows Vista?
But you gotta admit that the new Snipping Tool in Vista is pretty nice!

Well, I think it would be a bit presumptuous to call the Registry a "Database", don't you think?
Well, I think it would be a bit presumptuous to call MySQL a "Database", don't you think?
I'm starting to doubt Oracle. I think the only REAL database is foxpro.
I'm pretty sure that ceiling cat owns everything in the cloud.

Why didn't he go all the way and name it "Monty Program's Flying Code Circus"?!
I think Python already took out a patent for that. Sorry!
