    It is 'Security Theater', it will not stop botnets from being formed.

    IT will not STOP. But it will help the users that are smart enough to know that their excel document shouldn't require admin-privelegies!

    -UCARP for a virtual shared ip. -DRBD for a shared filesytem between two hosts. Typically you use this for the /www folder -CSync2 for syncing configuration files. That way UCARP triggers apache to start on the passive host, when the master fails.

    I see he uses ARP-Spoofing to re-route the traffice via the infected host. A good managed switch comes a long way in defeating arp-juggling I guess.

    As true as the outcome may be, that still doesn't validate the necessity of a race to procure a speedier advancement.

    You don't think that if the USA And the USSR had worked together that we wouldn't have gotten there just as quick, if not quicker?

    We only had a "race" cause both sides decided to be assholes to eachother after WW2... this isn't a browser war, if we don't work together on it, we'll end up with a "winner" doing spacey stuff, and a bunch of losers back here on earth, and all that this new "class war" would create.

    I personally believe if you get a too large group of people. Some will end up not being heard, not work so hard because they feel redundant or just end up wasting a lot of time because of communication trouble. The competition aspect will probably motivate workers more and they will probably work harder. For ex. I think 1 programmer putting in 10 hours of effective work is more effective than two programmers working 6 hours each. There's a overhead in collaboration.

    Well i'll guess they'll be selling xbox and zune. But what about personal computers? A Microsoft software store doesn't seam very exciting, but if they start selling computers wouldn't that hurt their relationship with partners such as HP, dell, acer etc?

    Cool! How do you manage to do that? Please, share your secret with the rest of the world...

    I can only talk for my self. But I've switch to Gentoo in our serverfarm. I just do periodic emerge -e system and keep one open Putty window on my screen at all times. That way i look busy and i can surf on my other screens without feeling guilty. Don't need slashdot for that!

    It doesn't matter if this happend. Because the security you get by buying and installing kaspersky is that they add you on the russian mafias exceptions list. So you buy your freedom sort of. It's like a bar-owner buying off the local mafia. Protection money!

    That's great and all. I think Ubuntu is great if you are a novice user that just wants to surf the web etc. But for more advanced users the linux desktop still doesn't cut it. Way too much hassle IMO.
