In other words, nothing has changed; it is still at their sole discretion if they wishes to honor the warranty.
Or maybe someone realized that nothing works 100% of the time and maybe they shouldn't deny 100% of the claims where the sensor is red and the language is reasonably updated to reflect that.
Or to be even more cynical so as to be more of a karma whore, this undoubtedly means that apple updated their TOS to where if you send your phone in for warranty repairs, they'll keep it if it has water damage. They're trying to encourage more people to send in their phones so apple can put them in pillow cases and beat baby seals to death.
Why should it come as a surprise to anyone to find out that they're still doing it?
"Should" is one thing, "would" is another altogether. Most voters don't realize that law enforcement isn't always the good guys. They need to be informed each and every time you catch law enforcement acting up, or law enforcement will be allowed to be completely corrupted.
So they release this at the exact same time one of the largest middle eastern countries is undergoing a revolution?...But if the EFF is so Tech and New Media savvy, it didn't occur to them that they might want to release this information on a slow news day as apposed to releasing it in the middle of the biggest story to hit the media in the past 2 years?
I'd question how media savvy YOU are if you think events in another country being the top news story ISN'T a "slow news day" in the US. The average citizen doesn't care much about Egypt. They waited until the media couldn't talk about an American politician having sex, a celebrity dying, a celebrity having sex, or someone blowing something up.
Plus, I've heard plenty of hate here for wikileaks being -too- media savvy, collaborating with media, and releasing it slowly so that the media can't give it just 15 minutes. The good guys are damned if they do, damned if they don't play the game.
So there's an evolutionary advantage to not believing in evolution? Whoda thunk it?
I find that few bacteria understand even the basics of evolutionary theory, let alone are convinced of it, and they outnumber us about 10 trillion to one.
Serious point there: evolution does not actually mean "faster stronger smarter." It moves in the "simpler, more offspring" direction quite often.
This must be news on Slashdot. If it was for a predominant democrat. it would be less newsworthy. As probably just some crazy propaganda from Fox News.
Hmm... those slashdotters who are not biased, that's obviously not true for. Those of us who are biased think we have good reasons for said bias, and don't really care.
Yes, I dislike Palin already and most republicans. I don't know of a single democrat I'd want as president less than her. I make no apologies for that. She'd be a terrible president in my opinion. But that's beside the point in this case. What's the fucking holdup? The only e-mails to be released are the non-privileged ones: ""records that are not privileged" refers to the process, as allowed by law, for the state to withhold records, or parts of records, if release would violate privacy of individuals or meet other exemptions in the public records law. " She was the governor of Alaska. She doesn't have to scrub nuclear launch codes or the names of operatives in Afghanistan. As TFA says, this has been delayed longer than she was actually governor.
Either there's something in there that they don't want released, or someone is pointlessly impeding the public's right to open government. True I might care less if a democrat I trusted did it, but that doesn't change anything besides my interest level in the story. This is still unacceptable no matter what party she is.
We can take it with a grain of salt though. This is -high school- science. There are some very good high school science teachers out there, and they're teaching evolution, but I think they're in the minority. Most science teachers seem to unintentionally reinforce to kids that "Science is lame and for nerds."
Frankly, I think what does us more harm is science being taught as a list of trivial facts to memorize rather than a way of thinking.
Has anyone here actually studied creationism? Evolution makes perfect sense when you see the one-sided version presented by the scholars, but breaks down quite quickly when you start to examine the evidence against it.
I've heard the same thing about the world trade center attacks and the moon landing. In all three cases, I see no reason to listen to the minority, since they lack credibility compared to the majority.
Live video footage of planes flying into the buildings vs crazy hippies trying to say Bush did it? No contest. A religious nut who poorly tries to evade taxes vs Stephen Jay Gould... yeah, I'm going to go with Gould on this one.
It's ridiculous, but science is being bullied in our Western democracies... There are fights about the greenhouse gas, about evolution, and several other topics... and if teachers say something about that, they are said to choose a side and teachers should be politically neutral.
It's no longer illegal to teach evolution. It was illegal at least 43 years ago, when the Butler act was repealed.
43 years is a long time on our time scale, but when it comes to beliefs changing, that's pretty short. Science is winning.
Greenhouse gas is not really science being bullied. It's science ignored for convenience's sake. That's not specific to science. How often do our politicians ignore basic morality or the constitution because it's politically convenient.
I'm often overly optimistic, but I'd say science is holding it's own and doing pretty well. It would be nice, sure, if science trumped goofy interpretations of religion and special economic interests automatically.
Jumped the shark? There is no way this is worse than the scopes monkey trial. Creationism is still on it's way out. Some mouth breathers get very up in arms about it, but that's because they're feeling threatened, not because they're making gains.
I think a lot of Egyptians are Muslim and don't eat ham though, while listening to the radio or not. And frankly, I don't know how that would help much in this situation.
It's another to do like Wikileaks did and edit video to fit their personal views.
I disagree with the notion that wikileaks did edit the video to fit their personal views. They gunned down innocent civilians. Nothing in the longer version I saw changed that.
...Assange is not a hero, he is a human being who does good and bad things. We can decry the rush to smear Assange without assuming he is a hero.
Most of my heroes are human beings who do occasionally do bad things. The only exception is Wall-E, who is a fictional robot who doesn't do anything bad. Assange can definitely be a hero and a human at the same time.
Geohot was the one who threw the first punch, he broke through the hypervisior using "other OS" and "bus glitching", Sony removed "other OS" in response.
Regardless whether you think that was the right response, it's not unexpected and unprovoked.
Why should we disregard whether or not it was an appropriate response? That matters a great deal. Taking away features from everyone is an extreme overreaction. It could be expected since consumers seem to have no rights, but that doesn't justify it.
It's kind of like saying "Those people currently protesting against their governments threw the first punch. Regardless whether you think it was the right response, police cracking down with lethal force was neither unexpected nor unprovoked." I'd say it's still unprovoked.
Thats nonsense. Geohotz broke the hypervisor before they pulled support for the PS3 fat. They pulled support as a direct result of his hacking.
That is not an appropriate response. You don't remove features for everyone just because you don't like how someone is using them.
The slims were never advertised as supporting Other OS. No one ever lost Other OS who owned a PS3 slim.
I understand that they've essentially removed Other OS for the old, fat ones as well.
You can get a better Linux machine than the PS3 slim anyways. These hackers are not going to use the PS3 for linux after this. They are just going to move on to the next device. The break machines that people paid good money for and move on. All for a feature that no one, includeing them, uses.
Sony was the one who broke it. People did use it for homebrew, and anyway you still don't remove features from products you already sold even if no one uses them.
This is the company that took features away from their product, which caused nerds to try to find exploitable cracks in the system. They're not too smart to try to put the cat back in the bag.
The link was just Stephen Toulouse saying the kid did in fact cheat, unless I'm missing something (possible since it's unavailable now).
So it's gone from MS: He cheated Parent: Nuh-uh MS: UH HUH!!!
And that proves something besides MS decided not to back down? I mean, I believe MS over sensationalist local news and a mom, but let's not pretend a tweet of "No we were right" is the final word.
Part of it is I'm just wondering how the autistic kid cheated. Was he playing poker and counting cards or something? The video I watched didn't say that he was a savant with numbers.
AC's statement is both true and factual. Will.i.am is one of the least innovative musicians. On a scale of "one" to "Room temperature superconductor breast implants", he's just below "farmville". Most musicians are at least "spork" level.
They would have been better off even with Michael Bolton, who is at about the level of "Mach 3 razor with lubricating strip."
Isolated area gets nuked - radiation cloud carries death + mutated virus all over the earth
You're joking I realize, but many viruses have a high rate of mutation as a mechanism to thrive. HIV for example mutates at an extremely high rate due to the reverse transcription, which is why vaccinating against it was so difficult. You vaccinated against one protein, and before the body could clear out the infection, you already have a bunch of viruses with that protein mutated such that they escape detection again.
Not to mention viruses aren't the hardiest of semi-life forms. The radiation would be more of a danger to you directly than viruses.
What the heck gives you the right to see ANYTHING they are doing, aside from normal regulatory compliance?
This -would be- "normal regulatory compliance." And I'm of the opinion that companies have, almost daily, proven themselves unworthy of having rights. Why should ISPs be allowed to have privacy when they bend over backward to help the government strip me of -my- privacy?
I'm opposed to this proposed regulation for other reasons though.
In other words, nothing has changed; it is still at their sole discretion if they wishes to honor the warranty.

Start reading it out every time a politician tries to make a new promise to that effect, and see how long it is before people get the point.
We do. It doesn't make it onto fox news.
So there's an evolutionary advantage to not believing in evolution? Whoda thunk it?

$360 million dollars is a laughable joke. It might as well have been $360 trillion. This guy will never pay even 1% of that amount
Hey now, we're talking about a real person, not a corporation or an uber-rich super citizen. There's a chance he'll pay something.

Jesus H Christ, why is a former comedian the smartest politician we have?
Because Jon Stewart is a CURRENT comedian and is too jaded to run for office.
It's election night live! Tonight, your president elect is Al Franken, with special musical vice president guest the Joe Biden Band!
