How is one to understand "Whedon's shingle," in this context?

  7. Re:firefly on Firefly Movie Gets The Green Light · · Score: 3, Interesting

Hopefully he's improved on his big-screen capabilities since the original Buffy and Alien 4. Ick

If you knew the background you would know that they are not him. He was just a little guy who should shut up then. In interviews he has pretty much indicated that Donald Sutherland was an arrogant prick who though he was gods gift to the universe and who readily changed the script ("Improved" it Sorbo style) (which is probably why he never accepted improvisation on the TV series), and the director didn't see it Joss's way either and wanted to improve it etc. Same thing with resurection:
"("I asked the director, "Can you just explain to me why he's doing this? Why is he going for this gun?" And the editor, who was French, turned to me and said, with a little leer on his face, [adopts gravelly, smarmy, French-accented voice] "Because eets een the screept." And I actually went and dented the bathroom stall with my puddly little fist. I have never been angrier. But it's the classic, "When something goes wrong, you assume the writers a dork. And that's painful."

But now, not only does he write, he also directs, and his buddy Chris Buchanan is one of the executive producers - I'd say its a safe bet that this time he has much more control. Of course not ultimate, because universal is paying and could demand scenes with half nake showgirls twirling their tassles - one can only hope they stay away and let Whedon win them that Oscar we know he is capable of :)

Assuming he doesn't mind running Windows:

Buy the XCard - it will playback divx and mpg, but it does it in hardware so even a slow computer can serve movies(Specifically it plays Plays DVD-Video, Superbit DVD, Super VideoCD (SVCD), and VideoCD (VCD) 1.x, 2.0, DivX , MPEG-4, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 files, Play NTSC titles on PAL televisions, PAL titles on NTSC televisions )
Composite, s-video, scart rgb, s/Pdif outputs.

Then you should buy JovePlayer - this is a player dedicated to work with the Xcard. Your basic "Home Theater Software", it displays its menu interface on the TV screen (and is skinnable btw, so if you want it to look like StarTreks LCARS, you probably could) - if you have a faster machine it offers the ablity to reencode video formats that the XCard doesn't support nativly (such as RealAudio, Windows media - and straight from web pages if you like).

Then you just fit your "home theater" machine, with harddrives with your content, pop in CD's, or mount network shares and navigate with JovePlayer (and the remote) to the desired folder and click on the relevant IFO file. It will play back as a normal DVD, (because in essense it is a normal DVD, you might just have relocated it) -via the remote you can navigate the DVD Menus, change soundtracks, page through subtitles etc. You can bookmark specific places and make playlists as well :)

Well, regardless of the internet bitching the ratings have been great. THAT is why there was a season 7 and, why they are making season 8. Almost the entire season 6 finished as the highested rated program of the week for scifi. Most of season 7 so far has also done very well in the ratings. They love Stargate, even though some fans don't like change. I don't mind change, change is ok if its done right.

  19. Re:Last episode is 7x19 not 7x18 on Stargate Atlantis Coming This Summer · · Score: 1

No, there will be a eason 8, they start shooting in a month. Because despite what some people are bitching about here, the ratings have been great for scifi. Stargate keeps being one of their highest rated shows and they've really been pushing to keep it going (the latest episode was directed by Amanda Tapping and written by Michael Shanks!) However Richard Dean Anderson is getting a bit tired about it all, so his part will be reduced next year. There is a rumour about that at the end of this post.

As for facts its pretty well known if one reads abit about it in the stargate newsgroup, or alt.tv.stargate-sg1 or on http://gateworld.net/

    **************** Rumour follows ******************

The rumour is that General Hammond wil retire, and Jack will be promoted and take over his position. ie, he'll stay home and mind the store while the 3 others go on missions. Rumour has it that the fourth position won't be filled.
