My brother has a white ex-cop Crown Vic, and it's extremely interesting how much attention such a car draws and how it affects the behavior of other drivers. People spend quite a bit of time sizing you up even as you leave the car, trying to assess whether you might be an undercover cop or something.

If you seek attention, an ex-cop car gets way more of it while costing way less than something like a Corvette.

The small size of lossy audio was an important factor when storage capacity was limited. This is no longer an issue, so there's not much reason to bother with lossy music when dealing with the storage capacity of current devices. 100GB of music would be an absolutely massive collection, yet that would only occupy less than 10% of a US$100 1TB drive. The 16GB common is portable devices is enough for more FLAC than you would listen to for even a fairly lengthy journey. It's certainly still of use in streaming media, but the bar for quality isn't usually set very high in that area. Full CD quality FLAC streams should be usable on home broadband within 5 years, I would hope...

The reasons to argue against FLAC just aren't that relevant anymore. Bits are cheap, who cares if you save a few?

China has made huge leaps in the military sector recently by working with Russian design bureaus who desperately need a strong export market to stay afloat. In the past, the USSR sold "monkey model" versions of their tanks and planes for export, but these days, Russian companies like Sukhoi work closely with clients such as China, India, Pakistan, and Venezuela (even Israel is in negotiations) to produce customized versions of their wares tailored to the needs of each client. The export program for the Su-3X series of fighters and strike aircraft, for example, has been a great success with license production happening alongside the original Russian assembly.

There is a huge market of willing buyers for the technology that powered the former Soviet war machine.
