Not Overclocking! Not DVD ripping! He's advocating violence and sedition. And if he really wants to live in an anarchist contry, he should go to Liberia. For all of the good things He has contributed to Free Software, I've always picked up a tone of envy in everything RMS writes concerning Linux. I think Stallman may quietly be hopeful that SCO is successful in driving people away from Linux (and in his mind) into the arm of the Hurd kernel.
"By their own PR statement, they explicitly and only mention GPL."
Yes. And this is a press release. It's written for general public consumption. The GPL happens to be the best known open source licence when you're talking to Joe Sixpack. I would expect by the time the details of this new fund become public you'll see other licenses mentioned. Relax.
RedHat speaks, lives, and breathes GNU. They understand the real issues at steak in this fight, while the team of lawyers at IBM are looking at the cost benefits of fighting vs. settling.
If SCO wins it's a disruption (big but not fatal) for IBM. It's a death nell for RedHat.
IBM may have the deep pockets, but if the ruling went against Big Blue they could always resort to options that leave Linux hanging in the wind. IBM has the resources to build a new operating system from scratch if need be.
And then there's the culture of OSS developers to consider. If RedHat doesn't throw down at some point, they will never be forgiven be the likes of the average/.er. RedHat is the flag bearer for Linux right now. That can change if the Linux culture turns against it. If RedHat does not defend Linux, people will remember that fact for a long time.

US forces in Iraq have discovered dozens of Iraqi fighter aircraft buried in the desert, US officials have said. A Pentagon official told the Associated Press news agency that several MiG-25s and Su-25 attack planes were found hidden at al-Taqqadum air base west of Baghdad.
The planes were unearthed by teams hunting for alleged weapons of mass destruction.
The discovery comes as America's weapons inspector in Iraq say they are making solid progress in the search for banned weapons the US says Saddam Hussein was hiding.
Poking out of sand
"Our guys have found 30-something brand new aircraft buried in the sand to deny us access to them," said Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Republican Porter Goss.
"These are craft we didn't know about," he said.
At least one of the MiGs was found with its tail fins poking out of the sand, the agency quoted the Pentagon official as saying.
It said many of the planes were buried with little protection and might never fly again.
The Iraqi air force, believed to have numbered around 300 fighter planes, was not mobilised during the US-led war with Iraq earlier this year.
It is thought Saddam Hussein believed the ageing aircraft would be no match for American firepower, and sought to conceal them instead.
One could say that a violin has a confusing UI. Does that mean it's broken? No. But it does mean that you need to know what you are doing.
"The violin sucks. It's too confusing."
"Do you read sheet music?"
"Uh, no. Would that help?"
I often times wonder how many people who find Blender confusing have a fundamental understanding of 3D software.
The Blender community has been focused on fixing Blender's real shortcomings. Better rendering (yafray), new modeling tools, python scripting improvements. Everything will get improved in due course.
Could it just be that with our very limited (~40 years worth) sample of scientific data that we just do not have a very good understanding of how the cycles of the Ozone Layer work? Perhaps ozone holes occur and disappear naturally, and we are only beginning to learn this. Ozone is created every time lighting strikes the earth (about 100 time every second) so ozone is not something that goes away forever.
I hope RedHat knows what they are doing, because they are going to make themselves invisible to many of the middle management who make buying decisions on software.
And flame me all you want, but what is bad for RedHat in most ways is bad for Linux. They are the lead flagbearer, like it or not.

Yes, you could accually fit Knopix on one of these AND have room for file storage.

I got the party right, the state wrong. But I still stand behind my original post.
Interesting that his party affiliation didn't make it into the article. If he were a democrat fighting the good fight it would have been mentioned.
