Perhaps the aproach should be to throw so many false leads at the attacker that they play their hand before they do any real damage.
There is an old philosophy that you don't need to create a perfect lie. You only need to tell so many lies that they truth can no longer be seen.
A system of honeypots, firewalls, and harmless paths into a network would allow a hacker to be studied, traced, and combated (counter-hacked?).
The law is becoming an obstical to such an approach. There is legal speculation that honeypots constitute a form of wiretapping. Bad laws are going to make it very difficult to be a white hat in a few years.
...but I'm just not crazy about it. That's my opinion.
He's inventive enough to build his own enclosure, and a unique shape. And I bet it runs cool, there's plenty of room for heat to rise away from the MB. But there's just no style. No finishing on the plexi. It could use some paint or brushed metal, or.... something. Anything. Sometimes seeing all of the guts just looks junky. This guy nailed it.
So let's say I've got gnapster going and I find someone has OLe' ELO. I remember I have an 8-Track of this downstairs in a dusty old box. As far as I can tell, I am only space shifting my content by downloading the mp3s. Yet the music is copyrighted. IMHO the RIAA can still take a leap. I OWN a "license" for that music.
Fact is, a lot of great music has never been re-mastered to CD. If I find someone who has done the work of digitizing some old LPs or tapes - try and stop me.
.... what is funny here is how the Fed spends soooo much energy collecting powers over the internet that it has no idea how to use.
I think sometimes that the internet might be too big for them in it's present form. Better to break it and build something new! Something where Disney can get a signoff.
Consider this: It is unlikely the Novell sold SCO a license to Unix that lasts forever and grants unlimited usage rights. At some point SCO needs to go back to the well (Novell) and obtain an renewal, extension, or new rights to legally continue marketing Unix based solutions.
What if IBM suddenly held those rights? IBM could turn off the faucet.
SCO would then need to drink a nice tall glass of fuck you juice.
Sony should be careful not to dilute the brand name Playstation by putting it on every peice of crap with blinky lights.
Sony took the Walkman name (which was the portable stereo brand that stomped on all others in the 80s) and started putting it on ultra-low end equipment - in the end the name means nothing. Consumer trust gone. You can spend $25 on a walkman AM-FM tumer and find out it's no better than the $10 Radio Shack piece of crap. But the sony radio is good looking.

Oh Joy!
Two things the world needs:
1) Another Burger King
2) Another Web Log
Bonus points if they can patent something!
A real challenge is port Ardour to the Colecovision. Then I'll be impressed!
Yeah, just like companies all quaked in fear over the GIF tax.
SCO has earned eternal status as a punchline of rude jokes.
To play Donkey Kong
and forsake rail gun giblets
is to be enlightened
A geek (by some amazing act of god) gets a hot chick to come home with him. They head straight for his mom's basement.
Hottie: Oooo... baby! It's so.. dark.. in here. Um, I just stepped on an action figure.
Geek: (add slupping braces lisp) Carded or loose?!? Ah shit! It was Boba Fett with the closed circle!!!
Geek takes a moment to dry to tears from his freshly taped glasses)
Hottie: [awkward silence] Sorry. Um, there's your sofa. (coyly) Maybe we could watch something romantic on TV!!!
Geek: Oh yeah!!! And I could show you my sword!!
Hottie: What the Fuck!?! You assume a lot!
Geek: No wait! Let me get it out! I'll teach you how to handle it!!!
Hottie: You sick little shit! I'm leaving.
Geek: No wait! I've got it on now! You should come play with it!!!
The amazing babe leaves, the geek and his videogame sword stand alone in silence
Geek: Fuck. So I guess she's not gonna chat with me in everquest anymore. [pause] Oh well, guess I'll jerk off now!
River played Indy in a flashback scene at the begining of the 3rd film. There was never any discussion of him replacing Ford.
Sean Patrick Flanery was Indy on the TV series. There was never any discussion of him replacing Ford either.
Being that this film will be in the 1950's, Indy will be older, so Harrison Ford will play him again.
The unfortunate side effect is Short Round is likely to show up wondering why Dr.Jones stopped paying child support.
Just in case any of the crew are slashdot readers, Free Beer to you, eh!!

Eventually the RIAA will find file sharing switching over to private networks. They will need to resort to stealth monitoring.
I look forward to the day we can class action them for wire-tapping.

Jewel sells singles collected on a CD for $18.00.
St. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is an ALBUM and work of art.
Modonna sells remixes of Erotica and a few singles collected on a CD for $18.00.
The Who's Tommy is an ALBUM and work of art.
I'm sick of buying filler. There are very few Albums in the world.
Go figure - He just got up on stage and started cursing at everyone!!!
Funny thing is most people just thought it was Steve Jobs.

A year's leave also just happens to give him time where he could be an expert witness or consultant in certain legal matters.

Hey Henry!
Have you played "Atari" today?
Wink wink nudge nudge say no more!
If you dig the Shuttle Simulator, you also need to try Celestia (solar system/outer space simulator)
Please takes it away!!! Smelly, fat CowboyNeil!!! Give me my Precious!!!!
I guess I was slacking last year. I'll do my best to get that back up to 41% next year. I PROMISE!

IBM should flip SCO off buy buying Novell and releasing Unix under the GPL. SCOs legal case (or bluff) would instantly disolve.
