I disagree. Many years ago, (2002 or 2003), myself and two friends went to Canada.

In Belgium there is the +/- 1200 MW Coo-Trois-Ponts Hydroelectric Power Station in service since the sixties.
I think this project is more an excuse to build an island as half the energy is to be found in tidal optimization.
