  1. Can't find SPEC results at spec.org for Apple?? on G5 Benchmark Roundup · · Score: 1, Insightful

Why aren't there any SPEC numbers from Apple submitted to SPEC? Usually this means that a company knows they will show poor results. And I suppose in Apple's case they aren't reliant upon fast CPUs since they have those sexy designs and OS X now. But to win converts from the x86 camp they really should have some results submitted soon.

  2. Get a decent laptop, that way you have a battery on Hardware Recommendations for a School Server? · · Score: 1

backup built-in and a laptop would give you plenty of computer to handle 250 email and 100 websites. You will have to sit down and do some capacity planning. How many emails do you expect to be sent and received each day? How many web hits/day? You should be able to find an inexpensive laptop to run your servers. Make sure it has USB ports and maybe even buy a backup laptop just in case. Then you can expand as you need to via USB devices. Now if you expect to stream audio/video your needs would differ.

You really need to define how the system will be used before you go spend any money. Maybe come up with 3 different scenarios: Light use, medium use and heavy use and see where that takes you.

Everytime I see (or hear) something about the Supreme Court I think back to the 2000 Pres. Election. They so undermined their objectivity and tarnished their role in our society that I just have a hard time at each mention of the name. I wonder if the lack of posts here means that others feel the same way I do toward the Supreme Court now?

I think it should be renamed to:
    The Burrito Supreme Court

    yeah that sounds about right....

sure to get Bill Evans too, there's a concert in Tokyo that's very good. Really any Bill Evans is good to have around. Chet Baker is wonderful.Find a good jazz radio station to listen to and jot down the ones you like. KLON from Long Beach is good and you can listen live via the net. Diana Krall's not bad (she's about to marry Elvis Costello BTW). Remember with any jazz that the more you listen to songs the more you like them. I've found that sometimes I won't like a song the first time thru but find after hearing it more that I enjoy it more than the previous listen.

a fascinating if somewhat dated article

That article is very interesting. It makes me feel sickened to read about ASCAP and their lawyers. They are using intimidation to protect and continue their business. Not many judges around these days willing to risk their life going against ASCAP. The only hope is that musicians pull their greedy heads out of their asses and tell ASCAP to piss off. Of course ASCAP is intmidating them too. It's going to take someone with real guts to turn the tables against ASCAP. I suppose informed consumers can help. I think what we're really going to see (as some else eluded to) is that the music industry will go through an upheaval and it will never be the same again. People are not getting their music the way they used to and the music industry is too heavy on their feet to do anything about it. But I sure don't care. I have essentially stopped buying music. I have enough already.

Anyway I am personally going to abstain from buying any music in any form until the music industry morons realize that file sharing is not the reason their industry is sucking right now. It sucks because there's so much crap and most people just aren't buying that much music anymore. Turn on the radio these days and you'll discover that talk radio shows are the big winners.
