  1. Nothing new can be said on Another Gaping Microsoft Security Hole Goes Unpatched · · Score: 1

Honestly. No one here can really say anything new or relavant at this point. This story has been published hundreds of times, just with a different headline.

Now, what should really happen, is DoJ and BBB attack MS for malpractice. Purposefully creating vulnerable systems and products which thereby require updrades and costly procedures.

These people creating all these hacks and such for IE is a good thing because it makes IE better (hey, look how many people use that browser), but what really needs to happen is create a working browser with real software issues...not stupid security holes that can be easily avoided (and should have been).

They should be creating something that Joe Shmoe can easily program for in XML to change the way it looks. They should be creating something where I can go to a web-site without having to worry about catching a random virus. Perhaps this will add actual value to their product...rather than the forced value (since it HAS to be installed on all Windows machines).

Well, last I checked. Exploration still has the same rules. I don't think that Mars will be "owned" by anyone. As humans begin manned missions (and more) to Mars, sections will be claimed, and the whole faction system will probably be started again.

Whichever country first lands on Mars will have first claim to it, but they just won't be able to over the entire planet. Just like how the Americas were explored and claimed.

This thing will not work very well in an environment that we don't know that much about. It'd be hard enough to get them to work here on Earth. That robot will be treated just as well as the insects are. Once they start to annoy anything or anyone, they're going to be attacked. They will also be greatly affected by weather, winds and such.

However, they will be good as "scouts" and watch out bugs. Let's say, a terraforming project finally has gone underway on Mars. These bugs will be great to have around to fly around the station and outside nearby the station. Let them go far away, they'll never make it back.

There is definately a good future for these things, as long as it doesn't start running a high bill.

  11. Animal Cruely on Wind Tunnel for Birds · · Score: 1

Regarding an earlier post and replies back...

Animal cruelty, by it's plain definition, is when an animal is used for experimentation where the animal is made to suffer some sort of test and physical experiments. I would like to call this experiment on those lines. While it is not traditional animal cruelty, and the birds probably can't tell the difference...that is where the problem really is. I hate the fact that we use animals for any sort of study. Yes the study of birds and other animals have given us such abilities as flight (yeah, humans were MEANT to fly). While that has made communication easier, it has bought on other problems. Let me get back to the main point. The use of animals for any matter of study is a cruel act. They are kept in captivity. After a while they are used to this captivity, and will not be able to return to normal freedom even if set free. Migrating birds, might migrate, but they will return to the lab during their return flight. A lab is no place for a bird or any animal to live. There is no kind moral issue in any type of animal study and experimentation. It is just plain cruel.

These are my morals and opinions. If you have a problem with it...then speak so, oh, and do so in english, because I hate it when some sends flamebait to me that is completely incoherant.

Honeslty, I feel what the submitter feels. I'm sick and tired of companies just doing how they feel. When I got my Sony Clie in Sept. 2000, I was more than annoyed. I ordered, and nothing showed, as it was supposed to in 3-5 days. I called, and they couldn't track my order because they were going through "upgrades."

I don't care what you're doing, I paid you money, so you better be able to tell me where my order is.

Companies now days just take advantage of customers, and their delay-until-we-got-it-under-control. What this means, is that they delay with e-mail, which takes 3-4 days (I thought e-mail was faster than traditional mail), and by that time, most companies have sorted things out, and pretend that nothing went wrong when you finally get a chance to talk to them.

When did all this happen? Why do companies think they can just trample over you? Pretend nothing went wrong because if the consumer "gets their product" they will be happy, regardless of how long it takes. Hey, they did buy the thing, why would they return it. This mentality works especially well for the expensive products, because one just doesn't buy an expensive item for the hell of it. One buys it because they want it.

There should be some way of enforcing a "I get money back if any ONE thing goes wrong" policy.

As for the guy that got the LinuxPD, make sure you follow up, and report them for this. This is more than just a small problem. It's a HUGE legal issue.

  15. Still the same thoughts from Dolly on Endangered Sheep Cloned · · Score: 1

When Dolly was first announced, and now, I still have the same thoughts. Bad Idea!

This is why. While it might seem like a noble and worthy cause, it's not. Everything can be made to look good and bad. The bad, I feel, weighs out the good in this case. Thousands of failed tries result one success, which doesn't even have a chance to live very long. Also, we can't predict what is going to happen. What if some of the genese from the surrogate mother do get into the embryo and then via mutation and recombination (since the genese will be very close), we get what we think is a clone, but will infact have odd gene combinations which could lead to a disater (read Jurrasic Park the book for frog/dinosaur example). I admit, I don't know how plausable this is, but wierder things have known to happen in the world of genetics.

One of my biggest problems is morals. Also, survival of the fittest. I guess this technology makes us the fittest, so we have the right to clone, etc, but it is this technology that destroyed everything in the first place. One wrong doesn't deserve another (2 wrongs don't make a right). We should use technology to comabt technology, but common sense. Stop trying to make all these "useful" technologies.

So doctors say that this can be used in research fo cures for diseases....Well, most of these diseases exist because they are induced by current technologies (skin, lung, etc.). If we didn't come up with such harmful things in the first place, then we wouldn't have to invent more things (who knows what harm will come of them) to cure these diseases.

All in all, technology doesn't cure technology. Common sense does.
