I see where you're coming from, but Toyota didn't do what they did overnight. Sure, they were crappy at first, but they kept gaining market share due to their ever-improving quality.
OTOH, it's good if this drives up oil prices, then other people will drive fewer gas guzzlers. It will also increase the demand for renewable energy and possibly force the US's uberconsumers to reduce their lavish lifestyles.
It's also good for Indian people who want cheap taxis and are sick of riding on top of buses to get around.
Just like I don't respond to beggars in game, I don't respond to begging add-ons in game.
The difference is beggars don't offer anything in return. You obviously find this useful, and it provides some value to you; God forbid he ask for some voluntary compensation. If someone offers to powerlevel your twink in scarlet monastery from 20-40 would you not respond when they asked for some help in return? This is a similar concept; it helps you level faster.
Also, if there's any business managers out there who have a clever idea for how to still make a living off this, let me know. I'll pay you with a reasonable fraction of the results;)
I'm sure Blizzard would at least give you an interview. Sucks that you might have to move from the Bay Area to LA though. But if their quest UI is so painful that millions of people prefer yours, that's a damn good reason to hire you.
I played WoW without any add-ons, but I had to use wowhead constantly to figure out how to do many of the quests. If it weren't for that website and thottbot I would've stopped playing long before I did.
All hail...our new bluetooth headset overlords!
Oh, also our cut-copy-paste overlords!
Uhhhhhh ok.... this just isn't funny on any level. I understand the attempt to be absurd but it lands flat. How about no more overlord references for 2 weeks?
10:08 PT - DM: Scott looking very hip in a black zip-up. I wonder who does his hair. 3.0 is a major update to the iPhone OS. Comes with "incredible features" for developers and customers. Here's what's on tap for developers.
He's so dreamy! I hope the new iPhone OS has lots of his pictures pre-loaded!
And the new iPhone works with any service provider, right?
When you do have the conversation, make it educational. In the distant past I talked to girls who were being pressured into having sex by their boyfriends who are absolutely CLUELESS about the basics.
If she's over 12, make sure she knows everything possible there is to know about sex. How pregnancy occurs, common birth control methods, how many abortions you can have before not being able to give birth, "pulling out" is not OK, the most prevalent STDs, their infection methods, rates, and symptoms, and how to avoid bad situations. (Don't make out with some drunk dude at a party.) Oh and show her videos of teen mom's lives.
Knowledge is power. The more she learns about sex, the more likely she is to be safe and have a normal sex life.
I got open internet access when I was 12, saw a lot of porn, it didn't scar me. Of course I saw a lot of mags before that.
I understand your concern, but images of people having sex probably aren't going to make your kids crazy. Young bonobos see the adults go at it all the time, they seem to turn out OK. What you don't want is her being too young and actually having sex; that should be the focus of your conversation with her.
If I had a SAM, and my neighbor had a SAM, I'm not sure I'd be terribly afraid of my neighbor.
I wouldn't be afraid of my neighbor either. But I would be TERRIFIED of airplane travel.
All kidding aside, if I was competent in firearms, and my neighbor was competent in firearms, I wouldn't even blink twice about him getting firearms. If I was competent, but my neighbor wasn't, I would be pretty scared if my neighbor suddenly bought a gun and started showing it off. But I don't have a gun, and my neighbor has one, I'd be terrified.
If you're both professional snipers, I guess it comes down to who gets off the first shot now, doesn't it? I'd hate to live in your neighborhood. Who would want to go through life guessing which of their neighbors they have to kill before they get killed first?
The correct course of action is to figure out how to acquire the advantage for themselves, to level the playing field.
THERE IS NO LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. This is life and death, not CounterStrike. Most people prefer not to live in war zones for a reason.
The Supreme court's Heller decision also has some self-contradicting points.
Miller's holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those in common use at the time finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.
In some countries heat seeking shoulder launched SAMs are in common use, but I wouldn't want my neighbors in possession of anything like that.
And what kind of weapons aren't dangerous? Nerf guns? Come to think of it, the Second Amendment states the right to bear arms, it never mentions firearms.
Given the reference to "a well regulated Militia" and "the security of a free State," the ACLU has long taken the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective right rather than an individual right...We do not, however, take a position on gun control itself. In our view, neither the possession of guns nor the regulation of guns raises a civil liberties issue.
Usually I side with the ACLU but this reads like doublespeak. If they're against people having guns then they should just take the position that gun ownership is not a basic inalienable right, and disagree with the Second Amendment. I don't think they would waste their time trying to appeal it.
The individual vs collective argument is bullshit. Individuals are part of whatever "collective" they choose, no? The NRA can own guns but not its members? This makes no sense.
Because I hate iTunes and I want to share my hate with the rest of the/. crowd. The iPod Shuffle is an overpriced PoS that no one should ever buy, the headphones make it worse. Imagine how much better the world would be if WinAmp worked with iPods. Apple had one good product(everyone has to admit iPod UI is genius) and now they're using it to leverage iTunes on the the rest of us.
iTunes is a combination of all the worst parts of MS Internet Explorer and Real Player with a polished Apple UI.
You don't need to worry about this. The whole theory is a red herring that will be disproved before anyone takes it seriously. Think of it in quantum terms.
Social networks have the properties of both particles and waves. If people know they are being measured in this way it will change the behavior of the people being measured in a way that will make the measurement useless.
If some bullshit study claims that people who drink less coffee work harder, and your company implements a policy of "whoever drinks the smallest amount of coffee gets the biggest raises", I'm pretty sure everyone would be drinking tea/red bull/cocaine.
Yeah, I was thinking about that possibility after posting my comment. They could use it for finding pot growing houses and whatnot. Hopefully we won't have to worry about that for too long. Obama is working on decriminalizing most drugs; the FBI has already stated it will no longer go after pot clubs in California. Hopefully the FDA will loosen its stance a bit.
Now, I would expect that during certain times of the day (around dawn and dusk), the angle of the sun would be such that the blimp would actually reflect light down to an observer on the ground. In that case, the blimp would fairly obvious.
Which is why the U-2 and SR-71ãwere both painted black. Not like it matters for the blimp though. Missiles don't have eyes, they use radar for targeting.
Oh please, they're gonna spend $400 million to take videos of your neighborhood? So they can tell your wife you're cheating on her? Oh no, they're spying on me! They know that I have a dog in the backyard and a car in the front! Whatever happened to privacy rights!?
The 450-foot-long craft would give the U.S. military a better understanding of an adversary's movements, habits and tactics, officials said. And the ability to constantly monitor small movements in a wide area -- the Afghanistan- Pakistan border, for example -- would dramatically improve military intelligence.....
The giant airship's military value would come from its radar system. Giant antenna would allow the military to see farther and with more detail than it can now.
Sounds pretty useful to me. Not against countries with advanced weapons but probably Afghanistan. Think of it as a Protoss Observer. Not invincible but godly useful for recon.
How is this different from Microsoft's monopoly? Microsoft tried to use Windows (where it had a virtual monopoly at the time) to make everyone use Internet Explorer. They were largely successful but they were also sued.
Hmmmm. Yeah. But no. They failed at monopolizing browsers. I wonder what % of/. users use IE.
The way I see it, Apple is trying to use Shuffle, which has a virtual monopoly in the tiny screen-less talking music player department to leverage, to Apple's favor, the headphone market.
They have a virtual monopoly in tiny MP3 players? Really? Cuz last time I went to the store I lost count of all the brands of MP3 players I saw.
Personally, I really don't know why anyone would buy the Shuffle. There are so many better MP3 players out there for lower prices. The only people buying this are either Apple fanbois who already have iTunes, an iPod, and iPhone who just want something easy to carry while exercising, or kids who save their allowance to buy something at the mall store that lets them play with computers they can't afford. The Shuffle is an utter failure of a product, calling it a monopoly is extremely misinformed.
The impression that I get about Apple is that they've become a bit too much like RIAA, minus the "association". I'm a fan of innovative user interfaces, but the locked-down MP3 players and cell phones are too annoying for me to use. If my friends have non-DRM protected music on their iPod, they can't* share music with me, and since I don't have i-tunes, I can't share music with them.
I like my girlfriend's iPod nano as far as usability, but giving her music to put on it is such a pain in the ass. iTunes is like the bastard child of RealPlayer and IE.
*without using DMCA violating software
Scared of playing devil's advocate for fear of being sent to karma hell, but... Imagine how many poems could be written for the total production cost of three LOTR movies.

Apple has always been more expensive. Some people like to pay for the polish, so what else is new?
Man, it's actually really tempting to try getting a job there.
Well, if you haven't even bothered sending them your resume then you're not doing yourself any favors now, are you?
Just like I don't respond to beggars in game, I don't respond to begging add-ons in game.

find out what her reasons are, why she wants to look at hot guys.
Ummmm, let me guessssssss.... DNA? Why do I enjoy looking at hot girls?
A GOOD father would train their daughter from an early age to be interested in GEEKY guys.

Overlords can see observers, then you bring in a queen to cast parasite and problem solved....

Emily Dickinson was also a great example of horrendously bad poetry.
