So I give the pictures to a buddy and HE posts them. Problem solved. Since the pictures were sent to me they are my property to do with as I see fit, and that means I can give them to someone else. What THEY do with it after that is not my concern, and if they were never romantically involved with the person, oh well.

Yeah, real iron-clad law they hammered out here. Lotsa thought went into this one.

  4. I've been saying this for years and years that console manufacturers should move to a semi-closed upgradeable PC-based platform and away from proprietary systems that are hopelessly outdated and not upgradeable. And now we have it, courtesy of Valve and Steam. Whether or not it replaces consoles will depend upon publishers and game developers porting to the new system, and I fully expect Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to play dirty pool to try and make that not happen. Time will tell.

It *IS* the future, but as we all know sometimes the old dogs need to be dragged into it, kicking and screaming.

  5. NO NO NO NO NO! on Ask Slashdot: Suitable Phone For a 4-Year Old? · · Score: 1

There is NO phone suitable for a child of that age. Buy him toys. If you really must be able to video chat or talk to him (for example, if you're away on business or the non-custodial parent) buy a cheap android tablet with a front-facing camera that can be given to his caregiver (mother, nanny, etc.) and you can Skype with him at pre-set appropriate times.

The problem is two-fold: one, he is far too young to understand the magnitude of the technology you want to give him and will not understand it's not a toy, and two, he's far too young to understand the notion of self-control. What if he wants to chat with daddy in the middle of pre-school, or daycare, or some other inappropriate time that he's not capable of understanding is inappropriate? This will only lead to distress and separation anxiety (or a worsening of any SA he might already have).

Seriously, just don't go there. I understand your desire, but it's a REALLY BAD idea.

That music is brought back to the people. The fact you don't need a label and $250K to make an album is a GOOD thing for humanity. While yeah, it sucks for the labels, but y'know what, too fucking bad. The mainstream music industry has been producing nothing but shit for more than 20 years. They only have themselves to blame for their losses. Their little house of cards is finally falling, and music is finally starting to return to where it belongs.

How do they cook rice without water?

I'm not suggesting they're stupid (uneducated perhaps, but not stupid). I'm suggesting the idea of giving them rice that's genetically modified to be rich in vitamin A is stupid, because there are plenty of fruits and vegetables that can be grown that naturally contain vitamin A (along with a full range of other beneficial nutrients not found in GMO golden rice), and that perhaps it would be a more wise and prosperous investment having them grow their own foods instead of relying upon handouts from us. Oh wait, but how will we promote ourselves and profit from it that way???

But com'n, the reality is that these are poor starving kids in Africa, so fuck it, let's give them whatever crap we can come up with and turn a few bucks while we're at it. I mean, it's not like anyone really cares about these people anyway, amirite? One Israeli or Palestinian dies and everyone screams bloody murder. Millions of African children die every year and no gives a shit. We blather on and on about the genocide in Syria, but no one has ever given a fuck about the genocide in Africa that's been going on for the better part of a decade. Oh yeah, that's right, no oil or Jews in those parts of Africa.

So let's just stop pretending this all about doing something good for people in need. Cause that ghost ship sailed a LONG time ago.

  12. Re:Amazon, others doing it too on Apple Sued For Dividing Final Season of Breaking Bad Into Two On iTunes · · Score: 1

Either way, it's misleading and/or false advertising. If one buys a pass to season 5 one expects to get all the episodes of season 5, not find out halfway thru that their season 5 pass was really just the first half of season 5 and that they now have to pay again for the second half of the season. That's fraud. It's one thing if it's done and made crystal clear what you're getting prior to purchase. It's another if they tell you you're getting one thing and then deliver half and demand another payment for the other half.

But they are the ones that run the store. They claim they have no power, that's it up to the producers, but of course that's complete bullshit. Apple has, and has always maintained full control over iTunes and the app store with an iron fist. Apple says "jump", and producers and developers say "how high?" If they tell the producers, "no, you must include the second 8 episodes as part of the existing season because we sold our customers passes to all of season 5, not just the first half" do you really think they would say no and risk being booted off iTunes? I don't think so.
